So can someone tell me what happens if it is 0-0 after 90 minutes plus injury time? Is there extra time and then penalties or do we go straight into penalties?

Question anyone that has been what is the Soton Stadium atmosphere like? Everytime I watched them on TV it didn't seem that great (but then again so were most of ours until a few odd occasions like Preston)

It's a decent stadium and fan base and they will be well up for this game, especially with Pompey winning league one. We have enough to beat this lot but how fit Ché Adams is will be a big factor for the 2nd leg.

Really hope he goes 343/523 for this one.

Similar to Leicester, have our RCB and LCB quite wide to prevent their 8s breaking through.

Front 3 press their 3 defenders man to man like the last 15. With how well they keep the ball, you can’t expect BTA and GD to press outnumbered for 90 mins.

Proud of the performance yesterday, they tried their knackers off. Atmos pre-match and first 10-15 was brilliant and very good at other points too. Shame we couldn't nick one but thought it was a very even game and draw the fair result.

Friday going to be a big physical challenge. They had 64% possession and will expect to have the same again on a big pitch and potentially 120 mins upcoming. Needs everyone to recover well physically and mentally dialled in.

Onus is on Soton to break us down but that might play into our hands. We pinched the ball off them in their own half 3 or 4 times yesterday. It didn't quite amount to anything but thought we set the traps and pressured them outstandingly. They'll play that way again and can't see they'll mix it up. By all accounts, their Plan B is to do Plan A better. Couldn't ask for a better manager at this level to try and exploit them.

Need to capitalise on the set pieces as well. We had so many yesterday and they defended well.

Will be a very tactical one and a big ask for us to repeat that intensity and performance, but I'm hopeful. Johnston and Fellows will be the key for me. They'll be the out ball even more than yesterday.

going to be tense!

Agree with this. I also think it gives the wide players the benefit of finding the half spaces inside, where we looked particularly dangerous vs Leicester and I think we would get joy against Southampton, as they vacate the midfield zone at times when they have the ball.

Bizarrely, I think 0-0 might work out for us instead of us taking a lead. because I feel like we may have gone their to just sit on that for 90 mins.

Anyway I did have a dream last night, game finished 1-1 they scored on 60 mins but Barts scored a few mins later from a corner! And we went on to win on pens in sudden death!

I hope Wallace comes in as a false No.9 as I think he's more clinical than BTA, and we will need to take at least one chance. He can also play the high press which is needed given how Southampton play out from the back. Hope it doesn't go to pens.

You beat me to it. Unbelievable advert. I think Carlos should play it to the team ahead of the game. Does his team talk for him.

I think most will agree with you
But this is where the coach has to earn is money ,there’s quite a few things to consider …
Having played the first leg, does Martin perhaps think that his wing backs should now have the measure of fellows/Johnstone…if that is the case does Carlos start with Wallace and Diangana out wide …if he does, should we then play 3 across the middle like Yok/Chalobah/mowatt…with Asante told to run their defenders for 45 mins ?
This is probably what I would do (despite the obvious limitations of Asante ) and then if we are still at 0-0 or 1-0 down …send on fellows and Johnstone ,replace Asante with Weimann because I think he gives a better chance of getting on the end of one of their (particularly Fellows) crosses .
I’d also have Swift play at least 45 mins because he looked calm composed on Sunday and his free kicks are easily better than anyone else’s .

We aren’t out of this
Pre match felt that we needed to take a lead ,but having watched them yesterday, they are beatable and we played them very well…a bit of good luck wouldn’t go a miss but
0-0 after 45 mins …you just never know .
If youre going to get told off, get told off for doing something not for doing nothing..

Was thinking the same probably 5-2-3.
The 3 man press we had near the end of the game seemed to be causing them plenty of problems and McCarthy, Stevens and Bednarek looked nervous at times receiving the ball.

I more or less said this on the after match thread, Wallace is canny enough to know when to give McCarthy the charge; BTA might put himself about well but he hasn't got that much subtlety.  Let them play around in their half and press intermittently.

Having said all that, it will probably come down to one player on either side either making a rickett or scoring a blinder, none of which can really be planned for.

Haven't been there personally but a few people I know will be heading to the Guide Dog pub on the corner of Earls Road and Ancasta Road which is about a mile from the ground.

Yup just re-watching old PO games and Leeds Derby, Leeds were in complete control until a defensive mix up allowed Derby back in the game they eventually turned it around

Speaking of, no one gave Derby a prayer to the turn the tie around so we must go in with belief we can do it!
