Thought we were in control the whole game and took our chances for once. Coventry never really looked like scoring, and for once the substitutes seemed to make a positive impact on the whole. Bodes well for the upcoming fixtures knowing that we not only have a strong 11, but also 3 or 4 that can come off the bench and make a difference.

I know I used to take the Micky about the topics discussed in these, however I seem to recall the puddle outside the Brummie Road end was a hot topic a few years back. I note it continues to be there during particularly heavy downpours and hope that it manages to get the attention it deserves again at future AA meetings.

Deserved goal today and what a goal, absolute credit to himself this turn around.

I don’t really get the ‘turnaround’ point being raised by many to be fair. He got 18 goals and 6 assists for us a couple of seasons ago as well as getting the players’ player of the season award, and has always been decent for us in my opinion.

Yes he’s matured a bit and seems to have a bit more energy, but there’s always been a quality player there for me. Glad the fans have got off his back a bit and he’s producing the goods again after the loan spell.

Another nearly performance tonight.

Could do with getting a goal under his belt to give him a bit of confidence as his head seemed to drop a couple of times tonight.

Played well tonight, seems to be growing in confidence each game. Seems reasonably comfortable with the ball and gets himself up and down the pitch.

Think the early yellow he picked up tonight hampered him a little, but can’t fault the effort otherwise.

Great performance again tonight. Tireless.

What I like about Grant is he’s not afraid to be selfish and have a shot. There were a few times in the second half tonight where our players opted against having a go, and the chance came to nothing, whereas if it had fallen to Grant youd expect him to have a shot at goal.

I’m glad it seems to be working with him through the middle with Maja too, as it allows us to play our more natural wingers out wide and feels more balanced.

Thought we played well and none of our players had a poor game. Both wingers created all of our chances and Southampton didn’t really threaten much at all.

I do fear that we’ll regret not scoring at least once at home, as it essentially is a 1 game tie now, and Southampton were clearly happy to take a 0-0 back to their place in the last 15 mins or so. Saying that, the draw was probably a fair result in the end. Just need to turn up and score first on Friday.

Just raising my first pint to the lads. Comfortable win when we needed it. Does anyone know if Johnston is able to continue with us now that the normal season is over?

I know Dwight Gayle did when we played in the playoffs whilst he was on loan, so presume it’ll be a similar situation

Another good 3 points in a game where we never really got going but ultimately didn't have to.
Furlong and Townsend both put in really good performances but Johnston was MoM for me.
As someone has already said; we scored at really good times. Fellows strike was well taken and great assist by Townsend for the second with Wallace taking a great position for the tap in.
Agree that TGH could have been sent off....maybe should have been sent off.
Anyone know what was said to Palmer when he was setting up to take the free kick at the end? Furlong was annoyed by it too.

We heard someone at the front of the East Stand shout ‘Just F’ing kick the ball!’ Really loudly when Palmer was lining up to take the free kick that was the last kick of the game. So was probably something to do with that.

A few people have mentioned similar on Twitter: (https://x.com/wba_frenchie/status/1769058777980973522?s=46&t=MBT2fxXFGpVqJja3oab1ew)

Yes, I sit fairly close to where that incident occurred. Not a booking or even a foul for me.

Yep won the ball from where I was sat. Seem to be seeing more of those sorts of tackles being punished nowadays

Great game again. Annoyed that he was given a yellow for his challenge though, puts him on 9 for the season now meaning he’d miss 2 matches with another booking.

Someone who's there to score the easy goals later in games? Keep doing just that and it's hugely valuable to us at this level.

100%. Impactful off the bench and kept his head with the finish. Like his goal against Blues I don’t think BTA scores that.

Mentioned on the Liquidator this week that his brother Bright Dike had to retire due to injury.

Played for Nigeria as well.

Yes, I think they said it was an Achilles injury he had issues with too.

Hopefully Daryl will recover and we’ll get to see him play again. The team and fans have certainly rallied around him

The sort of game we used to not finish off and get punished for it. So refreshing to now be able to bring quality on from the bench to have an impact.

Okay and Kipre immense all game. Fellows again threatening every time he got the ball. Mikey J took his chance and looked tidy, as did Mowatt. Weimann popping up with a typical finish again.

Cardiff were pretty poor in truth.

Just looked at BBC report, very attacking subs. I like it.

How did the new guys get on MJ and Marshall?

I thought if nothing else they both added a bit of energy and urgency to the game. We certainly seemed to get the ball forwards more, and quickly, after they’d been introduced. Although that may also have been due to the change in formation.

Agree it’s too early to judge fully, however we got our goal after making the changes so I can’t complain

Always puts in tireless performances and still has energy to get up and down even in added time. Wins the majority of headers despite his smaller height and is a great asset getting forwards. Also seems to have nailed his long throws more recently which are ending up right in the danger area. Hope he keeps it up

Great to win but probably didn't do quite enough to justify the 3 points - but we'll take it and move!

Firstly, can somebody tell me how Ivan Sunjic survived being booked!? He committed at least 4/5 fouls and two of them were proper, blatant pull backs and trips. Honestly, couldn't believe my eyes.

Fellows easily M.O.T.M. Terrorised their full backs and I'm pretty sure they made a sub to try and deal with him. He's getting better by the week.

A few had off days (Swift - again - Kipre and BTA) and the passing, overall, was awful from the majority of the team.

I actually thought the choice of sub and doing them all so close to each other disjointed us but great to see Weimann doing exactly what Corberan brought him in to do. He spoke about playing him in the number 10 role, making late runs in the box and the finish looked a classic Weimann finish - instinctive.

The main thing was getting a little bit of revenge back on the Blues and that was mission complete.  ;D

Agreed. On current form he’s clearly our best attacking option.

Happy with the result, but not how we played. The defence was nervous all game and it shone through. The initial forward set up was dire, even though Wallace and Fellows tried.

Funny, I thought we were comfortable at the back against a side that didn’t really offer anything going forward.

Was nice to have some genuine attacking options to come off the bench which made the difference in the end. Weimann will be a useful addition; I don’t see anyone else finishing that chance for us currently.

I see that the trouble at the game continues to be making the news and is being discussed at the highest levels. I can only see us being made a massive example of unfortunately:

Quote
Rishi Sunak condemns 'concerning' violence as six arrested after Wolves v West Brom FA Cup clash

Six people have been arrested after violence broke out at the West Brom v Wolves FA Cup clash at The Hawthorns.

The disorder started in the 78th minute after Wolves went 2-0 up, with police officers rushing to control the crowd.

The match was suspended for around 35 minutes and a man was seen being led away with blood covering his face. Police say he's since been taken to hospital with head injuries.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has condemned the violence and called for the hooligans responsible for the “extremely concerning” scenes at the West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers match to face criminal charges.

In a statement, West Midlands Police said: "Six people were arrested in connection with trouble at West Brom's game against Wolves yesterday, as officers vowed to make further arrests in connection with the unacceptable violence.

"Four West Brom supporters and two Wolves fans were arrested, and all have since been bailed while the investigation continues."

Those arrested were:

A 16-year-old held on suspicion of an offensive weapon after he was stopped by officers using Section 60 stop and search powers in a pub before the game.

A 29-year-old man arrested for affray after violence in one of the stands.

A 24-year-old man arrested for violent disorder after pushing towards officers.

A 33-year-old man arrested for violent disorder and assaulting police officers after pushing one officer to the floor and kicking out at another.

A 34-year-old man arrested on suspicion of a public order offence after picking up a corner flag and brandishing it as a weapon.

A 58-year-old man arrested for assaulting a police officer after throwing punches at officers.

Ch Insp Tim Robinson, from the West Midlands Police football department, said: “What we saw yesterday was completely unacceptable violence directed at both fans and officers, which sadly led to the suspension of the game.

"No football fan wants to see that. It’s important to stress however that it was very much a minority of fans involved in the trouble, and the vast majority of supporters were a credit to their clubs.

"Our policing operation was very much targeted against those who we know or suspect are involved in football violence, and our priority at all times is keeping people safe.

"A number of officers have been injured, and we have already started the process of reviewing evidence including body worn video and CCTV to ensure that we identify and arrest all of those involved over the coming days and weeks.

"We’ll be working with both clubs and the FA. Those involved in the disorder can expect to receive club bans and wider football banning orders.”

The prime minister’s official spokesman said: “Those scenes are extremely concerning, there’s no place for that kind of behaviour in football, the Prime Minister believes that everyone should be able to watch their team without any threat of violence or antisocial behaviour.

“He firmly expects anyone involved to face criminal charges and to be banned from future games.

“It’s right to thank the police for their bravery in keeping people safe. I believe a number of officers were injured and obviously that’s not tolerable.”

A Football Association statement read: “The disorder that occurred at the Black Country derby between West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers is completely unacceptable. Safety and security are of the utmost importance, and the behaviour of those involved is dangerous and inexcusable.

“We will be investigating these serious incidents alongside the clubs and the relevant authorities, and the appropriate action will be taken.”

My worry is they’ll want to make an example to try and stop things like this again. We’re not particularly well liked so it’s a perfect opportunity in my opinion.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the punishment exceeds what’s been given in the past.

As for the football, Bartleys body check was just that however everyone seems to have missed Dawsons high leg in the first half that went unpunished. That for me was a worse tackle.

We huffed and puffed but ultimately undone by two good finishes by players that cost more than our football club.

100%, this is my concern too. Especially for a club strapped for cash.

My other concern is the damage it will have done to our reputation as a club. Not only among other teams and fans (who I’m sure will now treat us differently for away games), but our own fans and prospective new fans, not to mention any prospective buyers of the club. Can you imagine if any of the interested parties involved in the potential takeover were at the game and what they would have thought of it? Breaking news across the UK doesn’t reflect well at all on the club, and has certainly tarnished any ‘family’ club/sensible fan base vibes.

Really pleased that Fellows has signed the extension.
He's one of those players that creates excitement when he gets the ball.
Looked good when he came on today.

Agreed. Someone who can actually travel forwards meaningfully with the ball and pick out a teammate in the box.

You must be joking. Good job VAR wasn't around as it was pure thuggery. Do what he did on the street and you could get arrested. His only concern was stopping Cunha by any means possible. His whole body changed direction to commit the assault and it was a disgraceful act. I've never been a fan of this guy simply because I don't rate him as a footballer but what he did today could have led to a significant injury to an opponent.

Ok I see.

Not sure what doing it on the street has to do with it, if I dived in at someone’s feet randomly I’d probably be arrested too. My point was that the chap rolled around holding his face despite is face not being touched, and then Dawson ran over claiming he’d elbowed him, when he hadn’t.

Personally think we lost that ourselves. As others have mentioned we more than matched them for the majority of the game.

They’d offered nothing first half until we took one of the worst corners I’d ever seen, and then got caught on the break. We still had a chance to defend but showed their striker onto his stronger foot and he finished it.

Second goal is a hit and hope clearance that’s cut through our defence. The less said about the goalkeeping the better. Either be decisive and come for it, or stay and set yourself for the shot. Seemed to get caught trying to do both.

BTA scores his chance at 1-0 and it becomes a different game.

Either way I don’t think the players disgraced themselves at all, the fans however made up for that.
