Thanks, I’ll give the filters a try. The business model seems to be working with creative headlines but it’s generally downhill afterwards

The westbromnews site is getting increasingly annoying. The newsnow link from this site is getting more populated with news articles from westbromnews, often headline clickbait with nothing newsworthy to see.

I've always been skeptical of the fee amount received for Pereira by the club. If there is any inside knowledge leading to the question being asked, hopefully it comes to light.

Had a feeling Sunderland would nick the spot when they equalised deep into injury time last week. It was enjoyable to still be in with a chance with 30 minutes of the season to go.

Boro vs Coventry is an interesting one. Do Boro rest players and possibly suffer a third straight defeat against the same team they'd have to play again in the play off semis?

Any win for us at Swansea would be a great result. We are unlikely to overturn goal difference but stranger things have happened.

Hopefully Preston turn up and Blackburn get a result.

The late Sunderland equaliser was a blow. We need Sunderland and Millwall to draw or lose next week. If Blackburn beat Luton, then we need them to draw final game. Blackburn draw v Luton probably best for us.

Has recruitment policy been discussed at any assembly meetings?

If Blackburn get no more than a single point against both Burnley and Luton along with a Millwall defeat at Blackpool, we'd only need to win our two home games to guarantee 6th. Exciting run in but not overly confident with injuries.

from a quick scan (in £million)

Rondon- bought for 17/ sold for 18.6
Dawson- bought for 300k / sold for 6
Leko - academy / sold for 1
Harper - academy / sold for 580k
McClean - bought for 2.3 a sold for 5.6

Then there is the likes of Zhang and Field who I can’t find prices for and those on the border of the time frame (2015 and before) like Lescott/Berahino/Dorrans/Thorne etc.

As for how long has the recruitment team been in place, I don’t know everyone but Ian Pearce has been the head since 2018.

Thanks, so Pereira, Dawson and McClean look the best of non academy for profit. There were other good purchases along the way like Dorrans, Brunt, Morrison, McCauley etc but don't seem to be finding many gems any more. I thought Pereira was worth a bit more than what he sold for.

On the flipside Zohore, Burke, Grant, Diangana amongst the more expensive that didn't pay off.

Then there were the ones that got away like Wood & Roofe to name a couple.

That's fair enough but it's an example of what was available at the same time.

Apart from Pereira, how many players have been sold on for a profit in the past 5-10 years?

How long has the current recruitment team been in place?

We'll need someone with expertise in the lower leagues the way it's going. Hopefully the club takes a good look at the problem and addresses it.

Recruitment needs a major shake up

Nakamba vs Chalobah? Wonder which cost the most?

Toney vs Grant?

The manager’s physical fitness and it being affected by a long commute each day is incomparable to that of players.
He'll just give them more days off so he doesn't have to travel himself

I'm no huge fan of Dowling but if he goes, I'd be concerned about who's selecting his replacement?

One angle it looked an accidental handball, another angle it looked more deliberate the way he shaped his body to control it and stop it going out of play. Should have been a free kick to us I think. The ruling is only for accidental handball. The officials didn't hang about to award Chelsea the goal. If Robson-Kanu clears it properly or Johnstone holds onto the cross rather than parry it into the danger zone, we would be celebrating a great win.

Johnstone has to do better for the first goal. He took a slight step in the wrong direction, guessed wrong and was caught flat footed. He had enough time to wait and save the shot. Can't believe we haven't strengthened with a new number one.

Bartley had a better game but maybe could have blocked the 2nd.

As others have said, the ball goes out of play for the 3rd if Havertz doesn't control it with his arm. I've watched replays and can't see how that's not a handball, did not look accidental. Had it have been the other way around, the media would be all over it.

I thought we played quite well generally, Chelsea did not create much in the 2nd half and only had a couple of clear cut chances in the first half. Robinson took his chances well, Sawyers lifted his game. If we can get a couple more players in now, and again in January, we might have a fighting chance, but ultimately I think our defence and goalkeeper will be too weak for this level.

My opinion of current squad Levels:

Johnstone - Championship
Button - Championship
O’Shea - Championship
Ajayi - Championship
Bartley - League 1
Hegazi - Championship
Furlong - Championship
Gibbs - championship (premier on his day)
Townsend - League 1
Sawyers - Championship
Livermore - Championship
Field - Championship
Pereira- Premier League
Gallagher- hopefully premier league
Grosiki - Championship
Edwards - League 1
Phillips - Championship
Diangana - Premier League
Austin - Championship
Robson Kanu - League 1
Robinson - Championship

And there in lies our problem.
The whole team is championship except Perreira and Diangana.

Gibbs is an overrated, overpaid injury prone player who is in the Chadli category. Disgraceful letting the team down today.

Hopefully Ivanovic and Hegazi can improve the defence and Gallagher should be an upgrade, but we don't have much hope of 30+ points without a striker and an extremely weak defence/goalkeeper.

Team understandable except for the Barry/Brunt combo, could have had a stronger bench and still kept things fresh for the weekend. Need to beat Swansea or we've thrown away a great opportunity of reaching QFs by playing a reserve team.

Bond 5 not convincing
Furlong 6 did ok
O'Shea 5 easily bullied, outpaced
Bartley 6 not bad
Gibbs 5 rusty, poor positioning
Barry 3 liability
Brunt 4 too slow
Harper 5 poor work rate
Phillips 7 played well got a goal
Edwards 7 caused them problems
Austin 5 not a lone striker
Krovinovic 8 motm changed the game
Zohore 7 goal and slight improvement on Austin
Tulloch 5 not long enough to impact

General Football & Sports / Re: VAR is killing football
« on: February 23, 2020, 12:22:27 PM »
Personally hate VAR and hope they scrap it but don't think it will happen.

The offside is basically down to when the frame is frozen. The player making the pass has a few milliseconds contact when the ball hits his foot (receiving/releasing) and prone to human interpretation which could be make all the difference with these borderline decisions. There has to be some leeway.

The refs need to use the pitch side monitor and not be dictated to by whoever is in the VAR room. The Lo Celso decision for example was a joke.

Great win, Livermore motm

Sawyers red was harsh, had his hand on players neck but no force, hardly violent conduct.

Great weekend opening a gap on 3rd

How do you figure that? He's had loads of experience of english football.
Not in the championship with a small shopping budget.

I hope he does well. At least there should be some honest post game assessment.

I like Bilic and hope I'm wrong but don't think it's a good appointment.

Talk that he had lost the dressing room at West Ham and was a poor tactician.

Sacked again at Ittihad who were probably well backed with a poor win ratio.

Limited knowledge of the championship.
