West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: New Manager Thread
« on: June 14, 2021, 08:19:12 PM »
The club is a complete and utter shambles at this time and a total embarrassment. No one at the club is fit for purpose to run it, there is clearly no plan, no strategy, it’s one knee jerk reaction after another, what manager would want to walk into this complete mess and it’s likely only to get worse. The most depressing of times.
What manager would want to walk into this complete mess and what does this chief executive Ke know about football/players and running a club, I fear the worst. Jenkins clearly saw all the problems and wanted nothing more to do with them and ‘yes’ we know Dowling was pretty damn useless but even he must have been very frustrated at times working under the Lai regime. So now we have no one steering this ever leaking ship and no one is even bailing out the water. You know the mess your club is in when a manager would rather stay at a Lincoln than come to us but he’s made the right decision I’m sure as he knows that under this regime he’d probably be out of the job this time next year if he took it on.

Can’t help but think that Jokanovic would have been an excellent and exciting appointment for Albion, I certainly think he would have fired up the players, supporters and the club as a whole much more so than Wilder might do.

Am surprised Craig Shakespeare name hasn’t been mentioned as a decent candidate by a few more people.

Not sure he’d be interested but anyone else think Craig Shakespeare would be worth considering

I couldn’t see Cooper leaving Swansea for Albion even if they fail in the play-offs and we were willing to pay the compensation(which I doubt we would be willing to do). Why would he want to leave what looks to me like a much better run club than Albion is at the present time.

I personally believe in giving most managers a decent amount of time to build and develop something, unless they are the likes of Pulis, Pardew and Allardyce, none of whom I’d want anywhere near my club. Dan Ashworth has given Potter about a five year contract I think and told him to get on with it and develop his brand of football without interference or fear of the sack. Albion of course, certainly in recent years, would never adhere to a philosophy like that, we are the ultimate panicky, trigger happy, knee jerk reaction club who just lurch from one ill thought out bad decision to another. We are sadly not set up as a club, certainly not in recent years, to accommodate a manager like Potter and let him just get on with it. Managers aren’t magicians, most need time to develop a team and philosophy, it is no mere coincidence that the most successful manager in British football went five seasons without a trophy whilst he was building his team before going on to win 29 trophies.

7
‘Because since Ashworth left we have followed the rule that you should never gamble on youth and promise, you have to go for established experience.  From Pulis to Charlie Austin we have pretty much stuck to the rule.’

Sadly all true and look where it’s got us. Personally I don’t believe Darren Moore deserved the sack when we were fourth in the Championship. He deserved a full season at least and he probably would have kept us in the Premiership had he not run out of games because we appointed him way too late in the day.

8
a few years back when it is pretty certain we could have got him. That said, I doubt we would have backed him in the way that Brighton have done and it’s no coincidence that it was Dan Ashworth that went out and got him for Brighton and gave him a five year contract to go and build and develop something. If Ashworth was still at the Albion I’m sure we would have appointed him or someone like him rather than making short-sighted/short-term,  knee jerk appointments and football or should that be anti-football dinosaurs. Our club has been so badly run in recent years and at the present time it is completely rotten at the core. Jeremy Peace was a far from perfect Chairman but I’d have him back tomorrow to sort out this current dire mess, there is no way we would be in quite such bad shape were he still at the helm. If we don’t get a half decent owner and good people in place running the club on a daily basis then I can seriously see us doing a Portsmouth, Sunderland or Coventry and plummeting through the leagues because with this current squad we’d be really struggling in the Championship too, especially the way the club is presently run.

« on: December 16, 2020, 12:11:53 AM »
What do the idiots running the club expect, Bilic might have made some tactical and selection errors, which manager hasn’t but to sack him would be pretty harsh IMO. Things like the Gibbs and Pereira sending offs can’t be put down to him nor can very poor refereeing decisions like at Old Trafford. The thought of him being replaced by Big Sam or Hughes fills me with total dread. I think Pearson still has plenty to offer as a manager even though he is a loose cannon and is capable of starting a war on his own but I’d still be sorry to see Slaven dismissed.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re. Gary Megson
« on: December 15, 2020, 08:05:43 AM »
I know Megson is not the answer or solution to our current situation but I can’t help but feel that were he in charge of our current squad of players at this very moment then they would look fitter and he would be getting more of a tune out of many of them in terms of effort and commitment to the cause.

12
Something major must be going on behind the scenes that is causing unrest to the extent that so many coaches want out. The coaches at the Academy level are absolutely key to the club as without quality coaching at that level we won’t see promising youngsters coming through the ranks who are key to a club of our size.

13
Did we consider/interview Monk? If we didn’t make a move for him at the time because it appeared that he was staying at Birmingham, would he have been the favoured candidate if we still looking for a manager now in the light of his departure from the Blues?

If we are thinking about going down the German league coach route, and I think we should do, then why are we not targeting Barnsley’s Daniel Stendel who has had a tremendous first full season over here in achieving promotion with a squad assembled for peanuts whilst playing a very decent style of football too.

I’m tired of all the safe/predictable names being linked to the job as per usual, think we need a younger, more ambitious man, I’d try and get Barnsley’s Daniel Stendel who has done an excellent job working with scraps and playing a good brand of football too. He also has plenty of experience from the German league. Alternatively, how about the Lincoln boss who has now achieved two promotions in very quick succession.

I feel ashamed of our club this morning, Moore has been treated disgustingly and all the club has managed to do so far with this decision is to divide our fan base(again). Who would want to take this job now other than some journeyman. Darren Moore was not perfect but overal since he took charge he has done a lot more good than harm. Truth is this squad isn’t nearly as good as a lot of fans think it is and our board and particularly our bloody useless owner who is so detached from the club and fans, need to take a good hard and long look at themselves because they must shoulder a lot of the blame. I wish Lai would sell up(that’s if anyone else would want to buy us) and urine off.

17
On the evidence of what I’ve seen of this young lad in recent games he looks stronger, quicker, more mobile and more skilful than any forward we currently have at the club.

If we go down which now looks increasingly likely, we will have got what we deserve through bad management for several years and being complacent as a club for too many years not to mention being completely unambitious too.

« on: June 30, 2017, 12:16:01 PM »
It's all so frustrating and disillusioning. Bournemouth and Huddersfield both smashing their transfer records and here we are, limping along behind all others struggling to get any deals over the line. Is our scouting rubbish, won't we pay the asking price(probably not), is it that players simply do not want to play for us, quite possibly, I'm sure loads of players, especially if they are a forward or an midfielder with some creativity about them, don't want to play brand Pulis. Whatever the reason(s), it is just becoming increasingly embarrassing to observe.

things didn't feel as bad in the dark days of the alan buckley era as they do now. Pulis has ripped the heart, soul and everything else out of our club. i've not been to a live game since he took charge and and i'm not going back until he is gone and tonight wouldn't be soon enough if he walked, which of course he won't. this isn't football.

must have missed that then. oh well, other suggestions would be interesting. am sure there are plenty of great tunes that could be adapted.

22
maybe not a new signature tune exactly as i guess a rousing 'The Lord's my shepherd...' takes some beating but a bit more variety would be good i think.

23
maybe someone can put some good words to the chorus of this 70s classic pop song, think it would sound great ringing around the ground. what do folk think? agree/disagree? feel free to put forward other suggestions.

good to hear that he celebrated. hope we keep him for now as we definitely need his goals then when he inevitably will leave in the summer, hopefully by then we can get about £30m for him if he continues to score and maintain good form between now and then. boing boing.
