The best player this club has had in my lifetime. If we’d signed him 5 years before he’d have been a 25m pound player at a top 4 club

I echo your sentiments and genuine bloke as well. I hope whatever he decides to do, he is successful in.

Thank you Gareth for your outstanding service to West Bromwich Albion

Fitting that it comes in the same month as Olsson retiring. What a partnership they forged, just proved that youdo not have to have pace if your positioning is absolitely spot on as it was with them.

Thank you for some brilliant memories, G-Mac.

;D Gareth, all the best mate outstanding pro always gave 110%.
I took my partner to a game in Czech republic a couple of years ago against Ireland. I told her to watch Gareth and how he cleans up all the danger and his fearless dedication to his Country.
She was amazed at how he did his job and was outstanding in that match. :D

Many of us had reservations when we signed GMac because of his age but he proved us all wrong with years of outstanding service.

My Ipswich supporting mate still hates us for nicking GMac off them, says it all really, model Pro and quality player. As someone else suggested one of the best senses of position I have seen at the Albion.

Burnley's English forward Jay Rodriguez, 30, is being linked with a surprise move to Inter Milan in January.

Finland U21 international Marcus Forss has scored a hattrick today for AFC Wimbledon - taking him to 7 for the season. He is now third top scorer in league 1 at only 20.

We released him 2 or 3 years ago aged 17/18. One we will regret?

Yet another striker as well from our academy. A forwards factory.

Quite possibly.  Look at someone like Austin who had to bounce around a little but made it back to the top flight after good numbers in league one at a similar age.

Any striker who can better 1 in 2 over a season in league one at 19/20/21 is likely to have something about them.

Forss is interesting and as such typifies a) The sheer quantity of players that come through the academy b) The general standard of the academy and c) The dilemmas that face the club.

Forss left without any fanfare even fans like myself who try to keep tabs on what is happening in the academy  were hardly aware of his departure. I do remember him signing for Brentford "B" and thinking for a moment rubbish we just dropped one there not because I had seen a lot of him but merely Brentford are really good at picking up discarded talent. I gave it no more thought until I saw Baggies post.

He is 20 and he is highly regarded at Brentford having played for their first team at the back end of last season so it is no real surprise he doing well at Wimbledon in the league below.

However at the time of his release Tyler Roberts was ahead of him Jamie Soule Ray Tulloch and Barrie were in the age groups behind him not to mention Calum Morton who was highly regarded but whose development has been hampered by injury. We are producing players at a rate we simply can't hope to accomodate regardless of how well we manage the pathways into the 1st team.

Ally Robertson made his debut for us on this day 50 years ago in a 2-1 victory over Man Utd.

He would go on to make a further 635 appearances for our football club.

Now there was a player who loved a tackle, Ally and John Wile were the best central defensive partnership I have seen at the Hawthorns by a long long way

I agree mukka but the way the game is played today they would have spent half the season banned (has would most of the old time players).

Carlos Vela is the runaway MVP of MLS. Hodgson brought him in on loan from Arsenal in 2010-11. He made 8 appearances for the Albion and scored 2 goals, one against Wolves. His club, LAFC, are all the rage in Los Angeles.
