Buzzing for this Saturday.
-
Yes, if they are open we should do them. COYB!!
-
I'd go for the same tactics as yesterday. Mowbray's teams like to play football and attack, so if we sit deeper and hit them on the break like wr did against Derby, i'd fancy our chances. A Cardiff/Derby win would help deflate Blackburn.
-
Blackburn are 5 off the playoffs so need to win all their games and hope for a miracle. They will have to come at us and hopefully we can end their season
-
A very open game is what I expect. Tony only plays one way and this may just benefit us. They will create chances though.
-
With our away record we should put Mowbray’s Blackburn to the sword but let’s put our chances away.
As others have said, TM likes an open attacking game which should play into our hands. 0-3 😃
C’mon you Baggies !
-
a must not loose

a must not loose
Definitely need to tighten up at the back... :D ;)
-
Definitely need to tighten up at the back... :D ;)
Wouldn't want us to 'slacken' our approach now would we ;D
-
Wouldn't want us to 'slacken' our approach now would we ;D
need plenty of zip in this one!
-
hope there are no flies in the ointment and we get it buttoned up without giving them any openings
-
Couple of comments about an open game but I wouldn't be too sure. From the little I've seen of Blackburn under TM he still likes to play football but they've been quite organised. I think he's tempered some of his former ideals with a bit more pragmatism than of old.

Some sense at last - posts on here suggest this will be "a walk in the park"
-
Nothing and no team is easy and can be taken for grated, you do so at your own peril.
-
How many will we win by 2/3/4? I’ll go 1-4 to us
-
Just heard on the radio, Slaven telling his players to think of todays game as a world cup final.
-
How many will we win by 2/3/4? I’ll go 1-4 to us
This a much tougher game than you think. Blackburn are Jekyll and Hyde; they are brilliant one game, then not the next.
Dack, Armstrong, Holtby - these are extremely dangerous players. Mulgrew's set pieces, too.
We need to be at our best and a performance like Derby should see us over the line.
-
I'll take a boring 1-0 if need be
-
Just heard on the radio, Slaven telling his players to think of todays game as a world cup final.
Every game is a final from the restart to the finish. Win today and we're within touching distance
-
Keep the run going, Grosicki and Diangana out wide with Charlie up top. Semi dropped for Hegazi as he looked sloppy against Derby.
-
Diangana benched. Unchanged otherwise. >:(
-
One change.
Krov in for Grady (who is on the bench).
May be a shift to 433 to match Blackburn or shifting Pereria to the right.
-
Maybe being careful with Grady injury from other night
-
Impressed with Blackburns pre-match play list so far!
COYB
-
C’mon you Baggies!
-
With Brentford winning today we must get three points!
0-3 would suit me
🤞😊
-
Logical team selection surely. Sad that Grady not starting but fully understand reasons. Come on boys.
-
COYB 8)
-
Bit of a chance for Blackburn there.
Started ok, look tidy on the ball but we don't have enough runners going forward. We keep getting out heads up but no-one looking to stretch the defence. I think Krov needs to be more brave in making forward runs.
-
They seem to be letting us have it and sit behind.... never good for us
-
sounds like we need to up the tempo & move the ball out wide quicker. Early days to get up to speed
-
Great ball from Livermore. Shame about the offside
-
So far so pooh
-
We seem to be uping our tempo & getting more chances.
-
That was never out of play. The entire ball has to be over the entire line.
-
its on live radio.
https://talksport.com/radioplayer/live/talksport2.html?popup=1
-
Austin has to do better there.
-
Great chance Austin
-
Great team, great squad. If only we had some strikers.
-
Had to put that one away.. but didn’t,
-
sounds like Austin missed a good chance, never mind next time Charlie
-
Fuc-ing drinks breaks, f um off
-
Think we need to up the tempo to put them under more pressure. Prefer Perreira more central
-
its on live radio.
https://talksport.com/radioplayer/live/talksport2.html?popup=1
Had to switch from TS2, their private conversation was doing my head in. On Radio WUM for the mo'.
-
Think we need to up the tempo to put them under more pressure. Prefer Perreira more central
it sounds on the radio thats what the lads of done.
-
Pereira puts over some shocking corners.
-
Pereira puts over some shocking corners.
To be fair to him, when they're practicing against Johnstone they're lethal corners.
-
Our shape is now clear, deep sitting block. 2 banks of 4. We're not pressing at all.
Why the change? Very negative.
-
Livermore yellow.
-
Livermore yellow.
He's made a poor start tbf.
-
Apart from a few passages of play we are not playing to well today
-
Our shape is now clear, deep sitting block. 2 banks of 4. We're not pressing at all.
Why the change? Very negative.
I think it is as much to do with how Blackburn are set up to be honest.
-
I think it is as much to do with how Blackburn are set up to be honest.
Blackburn aren't doing anything that should cause us to drop off.
-
**** me Johnson if you are going to go ******* go!
-
Sj is nothing but consistent.
-
Austin misses 1 on 1 with the keeper, needed to give it a bit of height.
-
That was a very good save.
-
Oh Charlie. You Charlie.
-
Massive chance that. Thought he’d slot that in the bottom far corner
-
That was a very good save.
Didn't need to do anything, Austin hit is straight at him and low. Would have been more amazed if it had gone in.
-
Austin misses 1 on 1 with the keeper, needed to give it a bit of height.
It was a good save to be fair!
But we are creating chances for him at least
-
Austin should have had one if not two goals, and they weren’t the most difficult chances. Let’s hope it’s third time lucky
-
HRK would of scored that ;D
-
Does our keeper practice kicking or coming for crosses in training?
-
GET IN KROV!
-
Get in Krov
-
Goalllll
0-1 Albion
-
Lovely
-
Brilliant goal. Great play by Austin, could have easily been selfish after the two misses.
Pereira. Wonderful.
-
Great goal, some calm play from Pereira to Austin, who sets up Krov for a volley at the back post.
-
Great goal that is. The run from pereira, ball from Austin and finish from Krov. Class.
-
Goalllll
0-1 Albion
Lovely Jubile :D
-
7 attempts 4 on target and 0-1. Blackburn 1 attempt none on target according to the BBC.
-
Bartley is awful.
-
Great save from SJ, point blank header.
-
Blackburn sitter missed. Parried well by SJ.
-
Fair play great save SJ
-
Livermore just cost us a certain goal.
-
Livermore close after brilliant play from Periera
-
Livermore just cost us a certain goal.
Give it up ffs, he had a great effort on goal that required a decent save.
-
Give it up ffs, he had a great effort on goal that required a decent save.
You give it up. Pass was clearly for Krov.
-
You give it up. Pass was clearly for Krov.
Doesn't mean it was a certain goal, he had the ball and took the shot.
I suppose Grosicki just cost us a certain goal then too then?
-
Livermore just cost us a certain goal.
Ridiculous comment. No worse that Austin misses.
-
Doesn't mean it was a certain goal, he had the ball and took the shot.
I suppose Grosicki just cost us a certain goal then too then?
Should have got his head up but looked like a nudge.
-
Ridiculous comment. No worse that Austin misses.
Pereira pass was to Krovinovic. Jesus wept.
-
Think we need an early second goal in the second half to kill this one off.
-
I think we have played well so far. Had so many clear sights of goal for the way side.
-
Should be 2 - 3 up in this Austin missed 2 guilt edge chances, Livermore should have buried that shot or left it to Krov & Kamil has to lift his head and find Pereira running through there. Look very dominant as we know 1 goal lead is never enough only takes a dodgy bounce or moment of brilliance.
-
Halftime. We've certainly grown into the game. Could and should be further ahead. Centre backs not great and Johnstone to the rescue on 1 occasion.
-
I’d be quite happy winning 0-1 but with so many chances for us we’ll score some more.
Johnstone having another ‘mare’
-
Should be a few goals up, was close to cursing out Austin for not doing the one thing he is supposed to be good at. I’ll give it him though, great assist. Johnstone looks as hesitant as ever.
-
I think we've been excellent first half but should be more than 1 up. Austin simply has to score, his first chance at least. Hope missed chances don't come back to haunt us.
-
Always worries me that we miss too many chances; it’s been the same all season, we should have been promoted by now if we’d only taken just a few of them.
-
Need at least another goal or two I feel, 1 won't be enough.
Would swap Livermore off ASAP for second half as he is 1 miss step / slip from a second yellow
-
I’d replace Livermore early second half as he is always likely to get another booking with the way he plays. Perhaps Brunt will come on to provide more technical ability.
-
Massive 45 to come. Let's hope we don't live to rue those missed chances.
-
I’d replace Livermore early second half as he is always likely to get another booking with the way he plays. Perhaps Brunt will come on to provide more technical ability.
Yep, he is in danger of red meaning we'd be down to 10. Actually think Livermore has had a good game. Can't criticise him for not hitting target. Could have stepped over for Krov, but no guarentee Krove would have hit target.
-

He did hit the target, keeper made a diving save to his right.
If Krov had missed I've no doubt Jacko would have moaned that Livermore overplayed it and should have taken the shot on.
-
Krov just cost us a certain goal there.
-
Need to kill this game off ASAP. Can't keep missing these chances.
-
Must score there.
-
How we’ve not scored there I don’t know
-
Krov just cost us a certain goal there.
Oh my god how did he miss
-
Krov just cost us a certain goal there.
He sure did. Hope we don’t rue these missed opportunities.
-
Started really brightly this half.
-
Should be a yellow card there.
-
Weak cross fromGrosicki there. Must do better.
-
Should be a yellow card there.
Who for mukka
just come back from the cricket ;)
-
Need a 2nd.
-
Who for mukka
Blackburn captain.
-
Who for mukka
One of theirs, Periera skipped through and was about to release Krov and he was tripped. Blatant yellow.
-
Coming up to standard first set of subs time
HRK & Diagana to come on?
-
Terrible from Bartley there, there was nowhere for him to go.
-
Bartley. Liability.
:-[
-
Come on Grady..... show us your magic
-
HRK to come on Austin
Diagana to come on for Kris
-
Quadruple change from Blackburn. Going for it.
-
Last 2 times this happened we lost all threat through the middle.
Come on Hal, you owe us a performance.
-
Diangana down. Hopefully it's just a sore 3 piece suite.
-
1-1
-
After missing those chances you just knew it was coming
-
1-1, easy peasy :(
-
:o :( :( :( :(
-
Well taken goal
-
Bartley/Townsend combo.
2 awful players.
-
Keep doing what we’ve been doing and we win
-
F sake
-
Another massive chance missed from Daingana this time :(
-
Oh dear. Poor from Townsend. Krov and Sawyers both let their man go and they're lining up to tap it in.
Diangana misses the ball from 7 yards.
-
rubbish defending that. Bartley needs to show him down the line.
Going to rue those missed chances by the looks of it, especially without a striker playing.
-
Gotta score there Grady dear oh dear...
-
Diangana should have put that one away
-
So frustrating. I hope we don’t end up ruing these chances.
-
O Shea close.
-
In any game this seaon can anyone remember we missing so many Good chances forget the saves made by the keeper
-
Good effort from O'Shea, HRK slow to react for a tap in off the keeper - he should have been there.
-
Keeper saves with his face. No striker anywhere near the rebound.
-
One goal lead is not enough.
-
Harper for Livermore
-
Too loyal. Hegazi should gave been straight back in.
-
Livermore off for Harper. Makes sense as we need to push for a goal and can't risk a second yellow.
-
Harper on for Livermore. Let’s hope we don’t lose the middle of midfield again like previously
-
So frustrating. Come on lads. Oh for a striker.
-
Really need another goal today
-
So frustrating. Come on lads. Oh for a striker.
Id settle for a finnisher.
-
Harper on for Livermore. Let’s hope we don’t lose the middle of midfield again like previously
Don't think that's anything to worry about. Livermore hasn't controlled a midfield in his entire career.
-
Keeper saves with his face. No striker anywhere near the rebound.
Annoying as Austin would have been there
-
that's a straight red, Travis has literally booted Periera at knee height. Right under the ref's nose.
-
How as Ajayi missed there?
-
Ref' gets in the way, bellwhiff.
-
Man if we somehow manage not to win this
-
How as Ajayi missed there?
Was a decent turn for a centre half that.
-
Cmon baggies Leeds won here last week, it can be done!
-
Absolutely nothing from HRK so far.
-
How are we not winning this game, I can’t watch anymore 😖
-
Would like to see Robinson for Krov. Krov has vanished from the game.
-
Us 16 shots 9 on target them 4 shots 2 on target....ffs...
-
The lord's my shepherd. COYB
-
YOur wish is Bilic command.
-
Would like to see Robinson for Krov. Krov has vanished from the game.
And Slav just made that change.
-
Keep the faith boys it’s football who knows
-
Super save from SJ and i am delighted to type this.
-
Sam preserving the point there. Jesus.
-
Fantastic save. Awful Sawyers.
-
These are the games that Leeds and Brentford have been managing to win. Desperately need a goal in the last 10 mins
-
What a save
-
Brilliant save from SJ, one on one. Harper missed the header, they break and Sawyers misses the ball giving them a free run through.
-
IMO sawyers almost just cost us promotion. Sam Johnstone take a bow 🔥
-
This is where we need someone other than Sawyers with some bottle
-
All came from another dreadful Albion corner.
-
Diangana not on it today.
-
SJ superb from the corner too
-
Lost the middle of the pitch since Livermore went off.
-
Awful end to the game here.
-
How the hell did they not score there!
-
Lost the middle of the pitch since Livermore went off.
Happens every time we’ve tried to bring Harper back in. All down to Livermore’s silly yellow in the first half though
-
Fantastic save... well done Bartley too
-
We’re going to lose this if we’re not careful. Should have buried our earlier chances.
-
Harper is absolutely dire. What a waste of a sub
-
We’re managing to hang on in a game we should have been 4 up in.
-
How the hell did they not score there!
Oh my lord!
-
No idea why their player wasn't yellow carded for a blatent dive inside the box.
-
Jacob Murphy mk. 2.
-
God we could do with a striker
-
The margin for error is going to get pretty narrow.
-
Harper and Sawyers can't manage a tackle between them without a slice of luck.
-
Harper has added nothing to this game
-
9 shots on target,1 goal :(
-
Oh and we've lost midfield since Krovinovic went off. Not Livermore.
-
We're just hoofing it forward now. Aimless.
-
This second half is dismal stuff.
We've thrown this away.
-
Oh and we've lost midfield since Krovinovic went off. Not Livermore.
Nope, we lost it before then - they had their good spell before Krov went off.
-
Oh and we've lost midfield since Krovinovic went off. Not Livermore.
He did also hit the post with an open goal from 6 yards to be fair but I see your point
-
No idea why those changes were made when we were on top. Absolutely bizarre.
-
Seems like it’s same old same old. Bottlejobs.
We’ll end up scraping the semis of the play offs and losing to derby in the final won’t we?
;D
-
Bilić has made a right mess of this.
-
HRK really hasn't done anything. He's been so out of the game I can't even recall him giving the ball away.
-
Bilić has made a right mess of this.
Sort of but you can’t blame him for Krov missing an open goal and Austin’s 1 on 1 miss
-
Losing the plot a bit. Come on lads.
-
Sort of but you can’t blame him for Krov missing an open goal and Austin’s 1 on 1 miss
Krov and Grosicki (aside from Pereira) were causing all the problems.
-
For the love of god just stop trying to give it to HRK. He's 5 mins behind play all the time.
-
Krov and Grosicki (aside from Pereira) were causing all the problems.
Not in the second half, both had drifted out of the game, especially Krov.
-
Getting fed up of us lacing tha ball over the bar when we are struggling. Seems to be a thing of our post return football. Worling the ball around the box would be better.
-
For all of Billic and his genius he has just cost us automatic promotion with stupid substitutions when we are on top. Brace yourselves for the play offs.
-
5 mins added time we could score 2 in that time.COYB
-
Bilić has made a right mess of this.
Words fail me how we’ve balls’d this up.
-
ft 1-1, 2 points lost due to woeful finishing.
-
Awful finishing and awful subs cost us this game and possibly promotion
-
Just makes Fulham game a must win
-
Bin Harper and HRK off absolute gash
-
It's harsh but when we're chasing the game the youngsters don't really have the cool head and quality that's needed.
-
Shocking Harper absolutely shocking
-
2 points lost. Lost our way completely in the 2nd half compounded by some terrible missed chances in the first half.
Cannot lose to Fulham now, 3 pts clear but inferior goal difference. Draw and 2 wins required.
-
Have to go beat Fulham now
Think we could actually rue this result
-
From joy to despair in under a week. Screaming at the telly.
-
Awful finishing and awful subs cost us this game and possibly promotion
Why in Gods name was he bringing HRK and Harper on I do not know. Two massive points dropped today and possibly lost some momentum too. SO DISAPPOINTING how out of shape we looked in the second half.
-
Johnstone has saved us.
Should have been three up, why oh why didnt we buy Gayle?
-
Subs cost us the game, HRK offers absolutely zilch, horrendous player.
Too many missed chances cost us there, now we need 7 points from 9 or its play offs imo.
-
Wasteful. Our final ball is so poor and we have nothing up top. I thought the subs killed us today. Livermore off for Harper especially and Grosicki was looking dangerous .
-
That last 20 minutes was bloody awful should have been out of sight. Brentford won’t stop winning we have to beat an in form Fulham team Tuesday don’t think we are going to do it.
-
Bottled that again. Never seem to be able to win the big games when we need to.
I’m sorry Slav but the subs changed the game today. Finished the game with no strikers, no central midfield and we’ve somehow not ended up with the 3 points.
Lost our buffer to third now as there’s only a game in it. Can’t afford to lose a game now. 2 wins and a draw needed.
-
Oh if only we had a 20 goal a season striker we'd have inebriated this league.
-
If we had a proper first team striker (Gayle, Rodriguez) we’d be 10 points clear of this league
-
We can afford 2 draws. This was one of them.
Be back later when I've calmed down.
But I will say, I don't want to hear about Townsend, Bartley or Kanu as the best players in their positions ever again. Awful performances.
Well done Sam Johnstone.
-
Oh if only we had a 20 goal a season striker we'd have inebriated this league.
Posted that the exact same time. Christ it’s annoying
-
No idea how we didn't win that, created enough chances to score a hat full.
We let them back into it once Livermore went off. HRK, it was utterly pointless having him on the pitch. I think I'd rather we went down to 10 men as we at least wouldn't try passing it to him then.
Looking back at the result, we were lucky to come away with a draw considering they had the best chances late on.
-
We can afford 2 draws. This was one of them.
Be back later when I've calmed down.
But I will say, I don't want to hear about Townsend, Bartley or Kanu as the best players in their positions ever again. Awful performances.
Well done Sam Johnstone.
I agree with Jackie 100%
-
I'm not going to moan, this is the Albion ffs, when youve supported them for 50 years you know they don't make things easy! Main thing is it's still in our own hands 7 points required, can we afford to draw with Fulham and win the last 2? Wouldn't put it past Swansea to beat Leeds, tin hat on time, 3 to go!
-
Like him or not without Sam Johnstone’s late save we would have lost that today.
-
Pathetic.
Enough chances to win 5 games today, been the same most the season, just can’t seem to finish games off.
End up needing Johnstone to rescue a point.
Fulham game is massive now. If we lose then it’s playoffs, I feel today’s draw will knock the players a lot, the pressure might be too much.
-
Thankfully we didnt lose that game which we could've done at the end. Bilic's substitutions completely wrecked our impetuous. Why he took Grosicky off I don't know.
We should have had that game won long before they scored, some of the chances we missed were ridiculous, should've been two or three ahead comfortably.
It was critical to hold on for the point though because we go into the last three games knowing we can afford to draw one as long as we win the other two and no one can catch us.
It might not seem like it now but that point could turn out to be massive.
-
You just can't waste so many chances in such kind of vital moment.
-
Subs changed the game, They made 4 at the same time. Was effective, HRK came on and offered nothing. Sam kept us in it, But Austin should have scored.
Cannot lose to Fulham now, It's a must not lose game, If we do then Brentford will replace us with better goal difference. And they will win every game they have left.
-
So many chances missed. To only score one was criminal.
Austin: Two great chances, should have scored at least one of them.
Livermore: Should have scored in the first half, wasted massive opportunity
Krov: Missed a sitter, off the post at the start of the second, another huge wasted opportunity to go 0-2. He then didn't bother tracking back for their equaliser! I'm fuming with him.
Diangana: Got the ball in countless good position and constantly made a mess of it, rubbish today
HRK: Not a goal threat.
That was a shambles. Far too wasteful in attack and played like we have already won the game in the second half, which led to a really soft equaliser when we done on the counter attack with all of our midfield stood on the half-way line watching.
SJ: Great save for stop Blackburn winning it 2-1, which would have been totally undeserved.
We fell apart when Austin & Livermore went off. Harper looked useless.
Sawyers needs a rocket up his backside, plays the game at such a slow tempo, looks like he's stoned half the time.
-
3 wins in 6 games since resumption - not enough when the team behind you keeps winning.
The margin for error is really small now - we can’t afford to lose another game, and we need to win at least two of the three, and draw the other.
Brentford show no signs of slipping, but it’s a relentless league - you never know what might happen.
If we get overtaken Brentford will have deserved it and we won’t have been good enough.
-
Like him or not without Sam Johnstone’s late save we would have lost that today.
Kept us in the game big time did Sam.......
-
Kanu, Harper, Townsend and Bartley shouldn’t be anywhere near a starting place again this season.
-
So down heartened I think we have blown it personally. Can't see us going undefeated now or getting 7 points from 3. Bartley Diangana Ajayi Townsend Harper embarrassing.
-
Let's hope Swansea can beat Leeds tomorrow and put us back top.
-
Hopefully Slav can now see the folly of putting HRK on ..he offers absolutely nothing to the side..Austin may have been tiring but would still have offered far more if he had stayed on..
-
Should have won that at a canter but missed some really good chances, Austin especially but also Livermore, Krovinovic, Diangana.
HRK offered nothing when he came on and when Livermore went off we lost the midfield. Harper really poor again.
Sam Johnstone kept us in it thankfully.
If we'd have kept Grosicki and Livermore on we'd have won that.
-
It has worried me all season that we don’t have a number 9 worthy of the name. HRK I have never rated. Earlier this season however I was happy to eat humble pie in large doses. Sadly he has now reverted to type. Austin is a better bet but looks knackered as the game progresses. He also should have scored 2 today. Very frustrating.
-
Should have won it well before Bilic made the substitutions, always thought we would be the first to drop points, Pereira though is on another level, Bartley should have took one for the team to stop Gallagher, as Jacko said we could afford two draws, it’s still in our hands..!!
-
Weirdly I think there is now a case to be said for taking a draw on Tuesday against Fulham. That then leaves us to win at Huddersfield and at home to QPR to go up. I think its more important to not lose in midweek to keep Fulham at arms length.
-
We can afford 2 draws. This was one of them.
Be back later when I've calmed down.
But I will say, I don't want to hear about Townsend, Bartley or Kanu as the best players in their positions ever again. Awful performances.
Well done Sam Johnstone.
Yep...and how many times have you and I said precisely that to much derision on here previously. All three are abysmal and should never be near the side when the alternatives are fit.
-
It has worried me all season that we don’t have a number 9 worthy of the name. HRK I have never rated. Earlier this season however I was happy to eat humble pie in large doses. Sadly he has now reverted to type. Austin is a better bet but looks knackered as the game progresses. He also should have scored 2 today. Very frustrating.
Even at his very best HRK has to be one of the worst strikers in the league. I’d even play Zohore before Kanu and he’s one of the worst forwards we have ever signed.
-
Johnstone man of the match.
He saved us from what would have been a disaster.
We cannot afford to drop any more points IMO.
-
Still can't see us taking 7 points from the last 3 games. We are not ruthless enough. Having seen plenty of games since the restart Brentford and Leeds look far superior.
-
Hopefully, thats our bad performance out of the way.
Its going down to the last match. Brentford seem to have all the luck with them at the moment. So a draw against Fulham, then 2 wins and we are there.
Brentford 7 wins on the trot, Fulham 4 wins on the trot. Somewhere its going to go wrong for these 2 ( Hopefully !!!!)
Still think Swansea could do us a favour tomorrow. A Swansea win and we are top of the table !!!
-
Their goal was awful to watch. Bartley and Townsend are not good enough.
-
This is the reality of the football club, it was always us that was going to mess up and we royally messed up of course. They scored out of nowhere after we should have scored five. Maybe the only surprise is we didn’t lose at the end. Leeds and Brentford got the inevitable outcome and it’s really difficult to see us not slipping again.
I definitely expected it but it is still such a huge throwaway. Furious and just waiting for the further suffering to come.
-
6 more draws than Leeds and Brentford. That’s what’s going to cost us. Poor finishing and lackadaisical defending. Middle bit is great, it’s the two ends we need to do better in.
-
Thanks to some fine saves from SJ automatic place is still in our own hands.
-
We had to score a second. It was the old lesson. A one goal lead is not enough.
-
How in God's name did we fail to win that, simply no more fooook ups in front of goal from here to end of season. We haven't got a striker and we need to score at least 2 due to our poor defence. Only positive are we didn't lose, we created a hat load of chances and Brentford are still below us in table just need seven points for promotion. COYB
-
How to play some really good football for an hour and be lucky to get a draw.
Bilic must take a lot of the blame. It might be just my personal view but Harper offers nothing and Robinson is just a light weight player and certainly on the wing neither creates or threatens.
Even when we were playing well virtually everything was coming down the left with no balancing threat from the right.
I would have kept Grosicki on because he does create and threaten.
-
For once the subs didn’t work. Livermore was a miss as was Grosicki. Austin let us down today. Should have scored. Thank god for Johnstone. Still in our own hands but I am now officially bricking it.
-
Hopefully, thats our bad performance out of the way.

Thing is it wasn’t even that bad a performance, we carved them open and didn’t take the chances

All of this.

We seemed to forget that although a point was a bad result, a loss was so much worse and based on the last 20 alone were lucky to come away with a point.
Re Sawyers looking half arsed, I actually think he ran out of steam today and should've been pulled ahead of Livermore.
There was some terrible officiating thrown in there. The guy who got booked for booting Pereira should've been booked way before then, so would've been sent off, could've had a red card for that alone and then did a dive after being booked for which he also could've been sent off (he won a free kick). Both teams should also have had penalties imo.
Discounting all of that we've had games, Derby, Millwall where we've been 1-0 and have eventually killed the game but it's taken a while. Although they were both complete performances in the end, there were long periods where we might not have won and a today happens.
Must be more clinical. If we create as many chances as today but take half of them we get the 7 points we need. Not panic stations yet but pressure is on now.
Hegazi in for Bartley for Fulham.
-
All of this.
Yep, wrong subs today, worked gainst us.
-
This game may have come a bit too soon after Derby where we seemed to have more energy.
I think the Livermore-Harper swap weakened our grasp of the midfield, although Livermore was looking like he might get sent off. Also, Dianga was not at his best, so in hindsight we should have stuck with Grosicki. You would normally expect Austin to have taken one of his chances, but he was still alot sharper and getting himself into position better than HRK who was just anonymous.
We lost our shape second half, but the the big lesson to learn is that we should never be happy with a one goal lead. Its why I get annoyed when I hear people saying we need a few 1-0's.
-
Well that's the definition of shooting yourself in the foot. Should have taken our chances got 2nd and 3rd goal had game to bed. They had one attack and were back in it.
Subs weren't overly effective. Hrk didn't do much when he came on and also taking off krovonovic we lost our balance and shape and only really Blackburn looked like winning in the last 15 mins.
Potentially by the time we play fulham we are in 3rd place on goal difference so that will be huge pressure. Some how it's still in our own hands 7 points from last 3 will do it. Brentford are relentless.
Hopefully preston do the business midweek and they drop some points. Be nice if the swans beat leeds also and add the pressure to leeds as well.
-
Fulham is now a must not lose game. At least a point in that one and wins at Huddersfield and against QPR. If we beat Fulham great but a draw wouldn’t be terrible.

We can’t be third before we play Fulham, as Brentford play Wednesday night.

Yep, a draw and it's still in our hands. A loss and we will need Brentford to drop points.
-
We are good enough to beat Fulham, if we think we can't we shouldn't expect top 2.
Remember Fulham will be going all out against us so there should be space.
-
Watched highlights on sky, Austin why didn't you hammer the ball to back of net when one on one with keeper. Sam congrats for helping us gain a point with fine save near end. For their goal Bartley doing his impression of bambi on ice and no one tracking back with their midfield runners.
-
Take away what happens with Leeds, Brentford and Fulham - it’s up to us to win our games. Regardless of our current record of one win in eleven at Ewood Park, this game should have been put to bed long before it became 1-1. The game really changed with Bilic’s tactical changes. The pressure now is huge. I’m feeling it, most of the members of this forum are feeling it and I no doubt imagine the club is feeling it given what’s at stake. I just don’t think the Albion are capable of getting two wins and a draw in the next three games.
-
Don't think its actually that bad a result. Fulham will be a very tough game which we absolutely cannot lose, but 7 points from the last 3 isn't so bad.

I think you’re right here we have been the first to crack under the pressure. Brentford past 2 games have been pegged back and gone on to win, we went to absolute pieces the minute Blackburn equalised. I’m sure I’ll be more positive come Tuesday but boy has that lead we had soon evaporated.
-

It’s not the worse result but i don’t think we should pretend it isn’t bad. We should have won comfortably today and that would have taken the pressure off Tuesday and I think it would have been hard to see how Brentford could catch us.
Instead we now play one of the toughest games of the season with an incredible amount of pressure.
-
Exactly this, it’s still in our hands.
Look at the statistics though. The current top 6 is made up of:
Leeds
West Brom
Brentford
Fulham
Forest
Cardiff
Without the home fixture against Fulham bring played yet we’ve only managed 2 wins against those other 5 promotion chasing teams. An away win against Forest and a home win against Cardiff. Of the 24 points that we’re up for grabs against these teams we’ve claimed 9 points them. It doesn’t make for very good reading does it...
-
We’ve bottled it big time , been poor since restart but rallied against Derby only to fall at the next hurdle.
Subs for subs sake today, killed the game.
Don’t expect any better against Fulham as Bilic will struggle to pick a side after that.
Our season will be defined by us praying for Brentford to fail and even then, we’ll have to beat the truly awful Huddersfield and QPR.

Glaringly obvious, we need a box to box, pacey, energetic and steely midfielder to replace Livermore. Barley is and was never good enough and needs replacing with a quality central defender who can head and pass the ball. Austin could have cost us automatic promotion today and will need replacing with a goal scoring striker with pace and the coolness needed in front of goal. If we go up these are the key recruitment targets and a if we have the money a decent right sided fullback
Albion have never had the killer instinct and the tenacity to win at all costs, attitudes need to change, I don't want us to be a nice family club, I want us to be fighters and winners who can play good football but can battle as well. A never say die attitude is demonstrated by Sawyers and Harper, don't give me languid, it ain't good enough :(

It has evaporated, sadly. I’ll be much more positive IF we go 2-0 up at home to Fulham with 2 minutes of play left till the end of the game.

I was just going to look at this. Really hard to be Positive going into the Fulham, and they dominated us for large periods at the cottage. Then today despite dominating we get just one goal. The form is definitely pointing against us taking 3 points which would be oh so precious.
-
Johnstone man of the match.
He saved us from what would have been a disaster.
We cannot afford to drop any more points IMO.
He made one save! If kanu had missed that everyone on here would be slating him. It was a rubbish finish shot straight at him. He should have stopped their goal.
-
Don't think its actually that bad a result. Fulham will be a very tough game which we absolutely cannot lose, but 7 points from the last 3 isn't so bad.
You're right it isnt. It actually makes very little difference to the position we're in with only three games to go.
You can see by their posts that some people are over reacting but that's natural, they are frustrated and disappointed that we didnt win a game we should have won in a canter.
It was critical we didnt lose and we didnt.

Amen to that!! As a club we’re simply not ruthless enough. I had this debate with Albion82 on here some weeks ago prior to the season hiatus. The point I was making was as fans (especially when you’re going to the Hawthorn’s and playing teams in the second tier of English football with the player resources we’ve had this season and last) we should be going into these games with the mindset that ‘we’re going to win today’. Anything less than that I find acceptable. I’m sick of this ‘oh typical little old Albion’. The whole mindset of the club needs to change.
-

I want to see us go into this match on Tuesday and boss it, start to finish. Send out the message clearly to Leeds and Brentford that we’re going up automatically this season.
-
If ever a game illustrated our desperate need for a proven goal scorer in the mould of a Kevin Phillips or Gayle that was the game. Charlie can’t last much more than 60 mins and HRK is a total waste of space generally contributing absolutely zilch to our team.
Subs were unfathomable especially Grosicki and Livermore when we were totally bossing midfield. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
People say Johnstone saved us. Both shots he saved were straight down his throat directly at him. My dear departed mum could have saved them for goodness sake.
Having to rely on goals from midfield non-strikers Could very well be our downfall. That said, it’s an exciting league in spite of the exasperation.
-
If we had a proper first team striker (Gayle, Rodriguez) we’d be 10 points clear of this league
We were 13 points clear at one point
-
We were 13 points clear at one point
For this very reason, I’m not convinced about Bilic.
-
as many have said itvws the subs that cost us.
I got in the car to drive back from work just as the second half started.
The commentator mentioned that HRK, Harper, and Robinson were coming on as subs.
That was the last and only time that their names were mentioned.
Not good enough Albion
-
Robinson has never impressed me either.

The subs and missed chances cost us. Yes Townsend and particularly Bartley should have done better for their goal but you cant keep a clean sheet every single game, we had more than enough chances to put that game to bed and they weren't half chances they were golden chances.
Bilic seems to have this mindset that he has to make substitutions. He was wrong to do so today, we didnt need subs.
At the time did anyone think "oh good this will help us?" I certainly didnt.
-
He made one save! If kanu had missed that everyone on here would be slating him. It was a rubbish finish shot straight at him. He should have stopped their goal.
Johnstone is the reason we got a point.
Without that save we walked away with 0 points.
Kanu has missed plenty of sitters and if we had an half decent striker we would have scored atleast 3/4 goals.
-
I have been out all afternoon. Caught a few glimpses of the TV. I still can't see why Kanu comes in. We were an attacking side 1 nil up and he throws on a holding player.
-
As Slav’s substitutions have worked well many times in the past, he seems to be of that mindset in every game.
If it ain’t broke Slav, don’t try and fix it !
-
Okay I've calmed down after a couple of hours.
We started very strangely. Not pressing, dropping into a defensive block of 2 banks then after the first timeout/drink break we started playing a bit. Austin could have had 2. Livermore took a virtual open goal off Krovinovic and missed. Keeper made good saves from Grosicki and Pereira. We held Blackburn comfortably at arms length. The only real worry was not being further in front and some poor play from Calamity Kyle. In the 2nd half this continues for the first 15 minutes. Then and credit to Mowbray he made a quadruple sub with a specific intent to get it forward quicker. Slaven made substitutions almost for the sake of it and got them badly wrong. Grosicki should not have come off. This obsession with Kanu wasting the last 30 minutes of every game. Just run Austin into the ground, he never has to play for us again beyond a week Wednesday. Make him play 270 minutes then he can go on holiday. Livermore should not gave been withdrawn for Harper, yes he's on a yellow but you've got to go to Brunt if you take him off. Got to. Robinson for Krov utterly failed, the former was never involved and the loss of the latter meant we lost control of midfield because once we needed another goal Pereira didn't drop back in.
It was bemusing to watch.
Even then Diangana and Krovinovic have missed 2nd half sitters.
As for their goal. Well in for a penny in for a pound. If you think Townsend and Bartley are better players than Gibbs and Hegazi just watch this goal on a loop. You'll soon see the error of your ways. An atrocious goal to concede.
Thankfully Johnstone stood tall on the one on one and we escaped with a point and further leeway in one of the other games.
I've said in the promotion thread I'm still confident we have the quality to put Huddersfield and QPR to the sword. So it all comes down to not losing on Tuesday. We wouldn't would we?
-
I am not really one for using hindsight, but after todays performance I cannot help but think that if we had have gone all out for Dwight Gayle at the start of the season we would be on the beach by now. He is the sort of player who would have relished the service Periera and co can provide.
Thank god for Sam J who saved us the point.

A fair and honest reflection.
I hope I’m wrong but I can see Fulham scoring early on Tuesday and we will be well and truly in the rubbish.
-
Jacko is right with 99% of that but Townsend has had one average game in about ten. Very harsh on him. He's been consistently good. There's no player ever played the game that doesnt make a mistake.
Bartley on the other hand, that must be at least ten goals he's been responsible for this season and anyone that doesnt believe me go on youtube and watch all the goals we've conceded. Hegazi has to return on Tuesday.

Sorry but I disagree, Townsend, Bartley, Kanu, Zohore are all Lower end championship / league 1 players
-
Hegazi has to come back against Fulham and if fit, Gibbs.
Give HRK a holiday voucher for Benidorm along with a taxi ride to Birmingham Airport and a bottle of sun cream.
-
Very downhearted and disappointed this evening.
I’m going to lock the missus in the greenhouse where I’ve been staying since lockdown. At least that’ll cheer me up!!!

Too much negativity here, we only need 7pts and playing 2 rubbish teams in the final 2 matches. A draw is enough v Fulham.

I remember being shouted down at the start of the season for wanting Gayle because he was "too expensive". Can anyone seriously say that if we had Gayle in our lineup for the season that we wouldn't have been promoted by now?
Any van anyone say, if we got promoted, would you expect any of our front 3 to be anywhere near our match day squad.
It was a no brainer and could cost us.
-

I don’t think it’s negatively, simply realism.
I hope I’m wrong but I can see us struggling against Fulham and the way Brentford are playing they look like they will win all their remaining games.
Hopefully Swansea give us a massive lift tomorrow, but I doubt it unfortunately

There you are Baggies82, I knew you’d surface at some point. Our lead was seriously aided by the strange results going on with the teams Just below us. ‘Coupon busters’ I think they call them.

Think I've seen Gayle mentioned a couple of times in this thread now. He's been injured all season and if not for the pandemic would hardly have kicked a ball in anger.

The better option would have been to try and keep Jay Rodriguez, I realise you did not rate him but he would have been far better compared to what we have had this season.

Brentford will undoubtedly take 9pts. Its about what we do. We are above Fulham for a reason. We should not be losing the game. A Draw or a Win and its in our hands. We've got to believe we can beat Huddersfield and QPR. They are both sun standard teams. I'd rather be in our position with a 3 point buffer. A time to be confident.
-

Tend to agree, he's a bit of a nothing player imo, not particularly good at anything, and having him on the books cost us last season as Moore crow-barred him into the team sidelining Gayle out wide. But without a Gayle (eg. a better player) he'd have played every game up front this season and got us the goals needed. Didn't want to give us another season at this level though, so not much we could have done.
After he left, we had to replace him with better than Kenneth Zohore. Bilic also has to take some blame for the signing of Zohore and his team selections, he's gone with HRK last season's 3rd choice over his two signings one of which has the same goals in less than half the time.

I wish I had your confidence and that of some other supporters, I just have that horrible feeling. Confidence in football or any sport for that matter is massive, Brentford have it in abundance, our players don’t.
This has a similar feel to when we dismantled the Dingles 11 point lead.
Please Albion prove me wrong.

Wasted opportunity today. But the good news is that automatic promotion is in our hands with three games left. Fulham is going to be a colossal match, nervy, probably horrible to watch and sit through - but even as draw is okay. Fingers crossed we get something out of midweek and Huddersfield pull further away from the drop zone before we play them. If we can navigate through those two games then I'd expect us to beat QPR on the final day, who would have nothing to play for and apparently don't particularly like Brentford.
-
Hmm I can imagine the increased stick HRK would have got if he'd missed the chances Austin had.
We need to get real, there's no way Austin would last 90 mins and be able to play a fullish part on Tuesday.
Following the equaliser you could sense a creeping desperation spreading through the team. We lost all composure, we had time to keep playing and create 2 or 3 more clear chances...we did lose the balance in midfield. Needless yellow from Livermore put himself under pressure.
I fear some tired legs on Tuesday after today's game....big challenge now against a dangerous team.
-
I would have even preferred to have brought young Tulloch on in place of Charlie. Ok, ok, I accept his lack of years and experience but I bet he would have done a more thorough job and certainly no worse than HRK.
-
As I said earlier, I wasn't around to watch the match. I have just seen it on Quest. We were in the ascendency. Kanu came on and with all his back passing etc (his back is mainly towards the goal, so therefore he has no other direction but to pass backwards), we gifted the game to Blackburn who then went on to score and could have also won it. Slaven has to man up and stop putting a negative player up front.

It’s one of the things that Bilic must understand and quickly.
On occasions people have blind faith in someone’s ability, I’m just amazed the rest of the coaching staff can’t see it.
-
Slow start got into the game half time came at thr wrong time for us. We did ok after the break and needed the second goal and we were on top until we made the changes.
Grosicki although had wasted some good crossing chances was causing havoc and should have stayed on for me. If he wanted to bring diangana on he should have took off either sawyers or krov and switched formation.
Austin was tiring but was still running about but still had time left. Robinson coming on ruined shape and we only looked like losing at this point. Dont know why he didn't play Robinson up top instead of HRK
Added pressure on ourselves for the next one. However we play first for once which might make brentford slip up yet. Just aim for 3 wins and it doesnt matter about anybody else
-
Just hope that Fulham game doesn't come too early, as I had the feeling that the players put in a massive effort for the Derby game and were not quite ready for today.
Also, second half the team seemed to lose its shape. The Livermore-Harper swap didn't work, and I have a feeling Billic thought Livermore was heading for a red card. Its a bit unfair to pick on Harper, as he has shown alot of promise, but he's clearly not a 'leader', although we needed that and organisation to give us more control in midfield. I also couldn't see the need for Krovinovic to come off as he was heavily involved.
Swapping Dianga for Grosicki was a bit of a gamble that didn't quite come off, but if one of his shots had gone in, people would say it was a master sub. You couldn't really say the same about HRK coming on for Austin, as HRK's game changing moments have been getting rarer and rarer. His positioning is less good than Austin's, and he reacts too slowly to any half chances.
For Fulham, I'd like to go back to Grosicki & Dianga on the wings so that Peirera can get more involved centrally. Mitrovic needs to be watched closely, including for his little
dives. Knockaert can also do alot of damage with his dribbling and crosses.
Most important is that the players are ready and up for it.
-
Jacko is right with 99% of that but Townsend has had one average game in about ten.
Agreed.
Bartley's ineptitude could cost us promotion.

Hmmm.. Not defending Bartley but his goal line clearance saved us from losing. Just saying.
Also if we scored one or two of those chances, which I think my granny could have, we probably wouldnt be having this conversation.
Look at how many games we have drawn this year and one more goal would have given us 3 points.
I think I'd be questioning the players up front before blaming one player for a misfiring TEAM performance.

Not so sure, 1 nil is enough to win the game yesterday if Hegazi if left centre back for their goal as opposed to Calamity Kyle.

Absolutely. Bartley is a disaster.
-
Worrying lack of shape after the subs for the last 20 mins. We completely lost control of midfield and started hoofing it forward with no pace up front. They gambled with their 4 subs and it paid off.
There was no need to change tactics just needed similar players to slot into same roles. Absolutely have to beat Fulham.
-
Slow start got into the game half time came at thr wrong time for us.
Agree with ALL of this and yes he should have kept Grosicki on. I'm usually totally behind Slaven's decisions but yesterday the subbing was just plain wrong and extremely costly.

We need nine point in my opinion. Everyone else is hungry.

I get that, but his poor defending at 0-1 cost us a goal.

We do not need 9 points we only need 7 mathematically

I don't think Bartley was *that* at fault for the goal personally. Townsend is caught out of position so the ball down the line meant Bartley had to track it. Blackburn player takes a decent touch and has the legs on Bartley, but Bartley keeps on the inside - just. All the while this was going on Townsend, Krov and Sawyers are just jogging back watching it.
The ball is just rolled into the space, Townsend should have been looking to cut that out but wasn't there. Blackburn had 2 players completely unmarked, the goal scorer Sawyers left, and the other player should have been Krov's or Townsend's. You could even argue Ajayi should have been out to cover that area. Essentially, due to Townsend being out of position we were a man down in defence. Couple that with no tracking at all from Sawyer's and Krov meant we were totally exposed. How often do you see 2 players unmarked inside the box they look that unless it's a team chasing the game and caught on the break? Take a look...

Bartley should've fouled him before he got into the penalty area. Naive defending.

As someone who has played centre-back since I was 11, I believe that Bartley is to blame to a large extent. Yes, Townsend sold himself trying to intercept the pass, but Bartley, as the covering centre-back, should have swept Townsend's error up easily - it should have been routine. He then got outpaced and misjudged the Blackburn's player run, enabling him to get an uncontested ball into the goalscorer. Really poor defending.
-

I agree, he wasn't on a booking, it was the obvious thing to do when you know we've been caught on the break. He either overestimated his own pace or underestimated their players, he completely misjudged it. Whilst Bartley does come in for some harsh criticism at times Hegazi and Ajayi are the superior pairing and should play the rest of the games.
-
Like I said, I don't think he was *that* much to blame, it's being talked about like he was entirely at fault. The ball down the line was a good one so I'm not sure how he could cut that pass out and there's not much he can do about a player running more quickly than he him.
He could have stayed closer or as Atomic says, took one for the team, but there's no reason at all for us to let them have 2 players unmarked in the box.
Sawyers is the one who didn't track his man, and in that picture there, just as the blackburn player is taking the shot, he's slowing to a stop - he should be sprinting flat out to get back even if just for the rebound. I'd go mental at my 5 a side team mates if they were that lazy.
If I had to proportion blame, Townsend would get the most for being out of position AND not tracking back, then Sawyers, then Bartley. Krov, no idea, because he didn't even attempt to track at all. it was a crazy goal to concede, I just think it's unfair to pin the blame on one defender when the real reason we conceded was someone being unmarked 12 yards out.
-
Kanu, Harper, Townsend and Bartley shouldn’t be anywhere near a starting place again this season.
100%
I would rather have Zohore than Kanu who's stealing wages. Why not try Robinson up front, cant be any worse?

Agreed. I don't think I've seen such an ineffectual performance as HRK's. I think he controlled the ball once, tried to cross it and it hit the defender, I can't remember any other contribution other than that. It's made even more astounding by how much attacking flair we have on the pitch with him.
-
All these discussions about who was to blame for a particular goal conceded, underline the point we shouldn't be relying on winning games 1-0. If a defence can keep a clean sheet that's great, but as a team we should be creating at least a two goal margin, in case such a defensive error occurs (whoever is to blame).

With the opportunities we had we easily could have had a 2/3 goal margin. creating the opportunities isn't the issue and has not been all season. It's getting it in the net.
-
Sawyers and Harper are similar types and neither is going to give you great pace. Sawyers does have positional sense whereas Harper needs to go back to school in league 1 under a demanding manager. Townsend can't stop anyone turning across his right foot. Diangana gives us 8 / 10 one week and 1 / 10 the next. He's not the type of player that Brentford would shell out £20M for.
The problem is that we are weak from the subs bench. It wasn't really apparent before the lockdown break because the first choice team could go for 80 minutes or so but as soon as Livermore departs the field there is no one to put in a tackle. Taking both Livermore and Krovinovic out of the midfield betrays a lack of understanding of Championship football.
Perhaps we should sound out Paul Cook of Wigan in case Bilic bolts???
-

Correct. We should have been home and dry then the debate about who was at fault for their goal would be totally irrelevant.
-
Leeds won 1 nil away today. We failed to win one nil away yesterday. Chances get missed. Nothing wrong with questioning the shocking defending for the equaliser.

Yet we are the second highest scorers in the league behind Brentford by 4 goals.
We've also got the 3rd best defence so I'm puzzled what the problem of cure is.

the issue is draws, 9 of our 15 draws have been 1-1. while we score a higher number of goals, in terms off chances our conversion rate hasn't been great. That brings in our defense who despite not conceding many, concede consistently enough for our lack of chance conversions to be a problem.
id suggest:-
either a CB or GK who talks to better command the line, several times we have had issues due to lack of communication especially at set pieces. cut the silly little mistakes and we'd have more clean sheets, Bartley is ok at commanding and speaking but isn't a great player by himself, Ajayi and Hegazi are better technically but rarely talk. Johnstone is decent but is also infamously quiet for a keeper and loathes to come off his line, which means defenders don't know if he's coming for a ball or not. For me, it's easy to see why he did so well at Villa when Terry was leading their defense.
the other is a striker, that's hard for us as our striker almost plays like a 2nd CAM roaming deep and wide to create space for others and is not a straight forward Striker. Robinson could play this but I think he's too lightweight to do what Austin and HRK have done all season. It's thankless wetwork 80% of the time to get the ball into crossing areas or make space for the other attackers. Annoyingly Rondon would've been perfect for Billic.
-
Agree with large parts of the forum who have analysed the draw very well.
I am frustrated that we’ve now placed all of the pressure onto tomorrow night.
It was a game we should have won, we had enough chances to put the game behind Blackburn by half time.
Bilić has earned plenty of plaudits for his subs this season but they cost us on Saturday. We were chasing the game and surrendered the midfield. Poor Sawyers was doing the job of three men. Totally conceded the midfield battle and almost lost the game.
