After another dire afternoon in a catalogue of 2013 poor performances, has the whole setup become really complacent similar to the likes of Charlton, Bolton etc who have looked 'Prem mid table' teams, tried to move on but then lost momentum and bombed out of the league........
Since our brilliant start last season, following on from the foundations of Roy's work the year before, so many aspects of the Club seem to have become unfoccssed, sloppy and, yes, complacent.
We limped into the new year with lastluste, low energy inconsistent from one half of football to the next type of performances. Only the brilliant talent of Lukaku seemed to light up the second half of season with so many of our usually more reliable performers Like Morrison, Brunt, Olsson and Long rarely getting above mediocrity at best. The season ended in a limp and lame run with just the 5-5 anomaly to excite -we badly needed to refresh and replace.
However, we seemed to dither and dally over the summer with the global search seemingly no more, ensuring a very unWBA like transfer deadline day to try and lift a poor listless start to 2013/14.
Things looked better and it seemed we had the tools to get back to something like last season's start. However, we still seemed wasteful and unable to kill teams off, play for two halves and Clarke didn't really seem to know his best eleven - ALL THESE THINGS THAT ARE NOW CATCHING UP WITH US NOW !!!
We all convinced ourselves that we were mid table and above relegation scraps now, squad too good (just like the afore mentioned Charltons and BOltons) and things were fine. The Yanited, Arsenal and Chelsea results only aided to mask how generally poor our results have been.
However, we need to wake up and face the facts that we are currently not good enough - three wins this season and the 2013 calendar year results are pathetic and are relegation form make no mistake.
Time for all of us to stand up as the next two relegation scraps are massive followed rapidly by the busy Christmas period which will shape our season and take past the half way stage.
Hopefully, a more positive 2014 awaits!!!
