West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: What is "The West Brom way?"
« on: February 10, 2021, 10:50:43 PM »
The Albion way for me is watching a team that inspires me, does its best and fully respects the shirt and the fans in the stands. Pre the big dollar contracts, our players did all this, it was what they lived for and they fully understood what it meant to us all to see them win, fight out a draw, or go down gallantly. I think we can get back to some semblance of this with; a very good keeper (SJ is showing he can fill this slot), two uncompromising centre backs (our last 2 in my opinion were Jonas and DMac), a ruthless DMF (Mulumbu, Yacob, Robson), and the rest of the 11 come from under 25 year olds. Throw into the mix a manager needing to make a name for themselves and just go for it, at least we would all be happy watching this unfold. Everytime we lose 5-0, we learn from it, not bury our heads in the sand and complain about lack of funds, the wrong transfers, the owner is a prick, blah, blah, blah. We need to stop being the last bus stop for pensioners!

A tough well earned win against what I thought was a very decent championship side. Couldn't really expect much in the first half when we have 3 older players who are unfortunately slow and a young kid in the midfield. Brunt & Mozza have been great servants to our club for many years and it is sad that age has caught up with them. HRK creates chaos in the forward half, sometimes I think he doesn't even know what he will do, it was the perfect remedy to break down a pretty stubborn defence, overall a great result. We do not have the Man City squad, a couple of average prem standard players, half a dozen below average prem players and loans and kids is what is here. Still think that as a team we can win the remaining games, up to the top 3 to slip up. Fingers crossed.

Shout out to Hegazi, the man is a colossus. We haven't won a single match this season when he was unavailable.

He's magic, you know, good luck Claudio. Loved his killer battling attitude, hope he gets a very warm welcome, ala Gera's return to the Hawthorns in the khaki green of Fulham, was lucky to witness that and will never forget it.

Love the gut to bits, plays his heart out for us. First game I've seen him offer an attacking threat as well, reminded me of the videos of him prior to joining the Albion, scoring the odd goal. No Pulis, no shackles for the Yak?

Aussie bias here, please feel free to shoot me down but, Ange Postecoglou ticks all the boxes re footballing philosophy; attack at all costs, plays the youth, takes no rubbish.

I think Pulis is gone, he knows it and the club has just not decided when they will drop the axe. TP is limited to only one game plan and buying players that do not fit his system is just a waste of resources. No matter who we bought in this window how would they go about displacing the current crop of first choice players (when they are fit) that TP has unwavering belief in that they will not get him relegated? I believe that TP's viewpoint is: Our goalkeepers, Foster & Myhill are about as good as each so no problem there. LB is Brunt's position, CB are Evans & McAuley, RB is Dawson, CMs are Fletcher & Yacob, AM is Morrison and CF is Rondon. Utility is Gardner, either starting or on the bench. I cannot see the arrival of anyone dislodging any of these 10 players from TP's plans. The two (or one)  remaining position(s) could be anyone's. The only requirement is that they support the full back on their side. With such a narrow approach, I believe that when the takeover is finally rubber stamped massive changes will occur as 6 of the 10 will be past it for the new manager. Very disappointed, but glass still somehow half full.

Observations from watching the game this morning.
1. we have no pace other than McLean
2. Age has caught up with too many of our players
3. I feel for Gardner, 5 years ago was probably a very decent player but now too often resorts to forcing the ref to decide if he is being fouled or he is fouling
4. Sandro looks like a very handy player, just match sharpness missing
5. we do not appear to practice open play attacking enough, too many times it looked like a training drill with token efforts at finishing
6. Fletcher is not a no. 10
7. Vic  :o, wow
8. we should have won in a canter with the chances we had
9. Foster should have dived, 9 times out of 10 that shot will go far post. Even if he was late and dived after it had past him it would be better than imitating a statue.
10. Floodgates might now open for Rondon, fingers crossed.

Glad he has not gone for 20 odd million. Don't know what I am missing but if rumors about Stones (defender with 65PL games and 1 goal) at 50mil, then Saido's rumors (88PL games for 22) IMHO should be for more. Suppose it all depends on who is doing the shopping. If he pulls his finger out, JP could be sitting on a gold mine.

Regardless of the tactics and also the substitution of Rondon for Gardner, luck, as mentioned in many of the previous post played a very big part in the outcome. Unluckily we lose 2 CBs that can go toe to toe with Romelu and end up with Chester being outmuscled for the first goal that goes in off Rom's forearm, unluckily our players don't do a Man Utd and surround the ref demanding a hand ball. Unluckily, Rondon plays the ball and doesn't drop to the ground when pushed in the back making it a pretty obvious call for a penalty. Second goal, our fill in LB unluckily finds himself just close enough so that the lino has a semi difficult call on an obvious off side. Third goal and Rom handles the ball before putting it away. Luck is a bitch.

Talking out of turn here being an Aussie but, if Berahino was utilized as a true number 10, playing behind Rondon or Lambert or Vic for the next 2 seasons, then we may develop a stand out forward that would be in prime condition to fill Rooney's spot in the English team. He needs to be further developed (imho) playing regularly with a brute forward as a partner to allow him to express all his talents. Spuds will run him into the ground chasing a beyond their grasp glory that they can only dream about. If he went to a big 4, then the pine bench would become his best friend, and the glory seeking fans of that club will give their team a standing ovation at seasons end and be left bewildered come Euros or WC time as to why England can't do so well. Imperative for many reasons why the lad should stay a Baggie. My opinion only
