I just don't get Atleti, spend over a £100m on a player yet still play like a Pulis team. Yes it is effective and they are very good at what they do but I wouldn't want to watch it every week.

Liverpool goalkeeper cost them the game when they were coasting to victory, you won't see a more one sided loss.

It's very difficult to break down organised and pragmatic teams with average players, when you have a collection of very good players set up in such a fashion it can be highly effective at the highest level.

It isnt the modern trend to play that way at the top echelons of the game which from an entertainment point of view is a blessing but football goes in cycles and I can see more teams adopting a more defensive approach before too long.

it's not that surprising really considering they both played for Spanish clubs between 2009/10 - 2018/19 and clubs from the same county can't be in the same group together.

UEFA is considering a Champions League with 36 teams in the groups

Source: https://www.athina984.gr/en/2020/10/19/h-uefa-skeftetai-champions-league-me-36-omades-stoys-omiloys/

Why not just form European Leagues one and two and be done with it, which may help sort and stabilise the English clubs that remain?

They've effectively already got Euro Leagues One and Two with Champions League teams 'relegated' to the lesser competition (division) , and the winner of said lesser competition gaining 'promotion' to the following season's Champions League. Euro One and Two has been with us for a while in everything but name and wider expansion.

Hope it never happens. All designed to marginalise clubs the size of Albion, because we're not interesting enough for the fans of Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool etc.  Obviously the odds are always stacked against us when we play the so-called 'big clubs', but we've beaten all of them, and that slight chance is what makes you buzz as a fan. If Albion ends up cut off from the clubs at the top all you have left are the local derbies, and being better than the Newcastles and Southamptons.

It's a CL replacement,  they would still play in the Premier League I believe.

Harvey Barnes has been in top form for Leicester, topped off with chip over the keeper for
2-0.

Is there a generic world football thread?

17 year old Ansu Fati has equalised for Barca in El Classico. Looks like Messi’s heir apparent and If he can avoid injuries itI a starting to looks like Mbappe and Ansu will be the next two in elite world football who can score at a rate of better than one a game.
