After a complaint that we have selectively removed posts from the McLean topic then the whole lot has gone so if you cannot stick to football don't bother posting on the topic please

There's other issues surrounding this guy apart from football so is there to be a separate thread or do we all pretend everything is honkey dorey?

If he starts sticking certain badges on his West Brom kit, as he did at Wigan, I for one will go off my nut.

Can McLean (outside of football) be diacussed in the Woodman thread?

The issues this guy brings really does need to be discussed

You want to discuss a football transfer then do it here, you want to discuss anything political then do it elsewhere, not hard to follow folks is it. Yes there are other issues around this deal but as this deal has not even been done yet then why discuss those issues ?

Maybe if people were capable of discussing those issues like the adults people on here are supposed to be then we wouldn't have to ask people to stick to football but when a topic about a player descends into personal insults and drifts to subjects which some on here find either difficult to discuss or are a bit too close to home for them it makes it difficult for us to watch given surprisingly we do actually have lives away from this forum which some fail to either understand or give a toss about.

Nothing to do with censorship, it is a FOOTBALL forum not a political forum.

Your choices folks.

Tell Jeremy Peace/ Tony Pulis your feelings then contact details available through Facebook/ Twitter/ official website. There's nothing anyone on here can do about it.

He's a player in a position we are short in, hes available at a decent price.

Would I sign him on football ability - no.

Not pretending anything, just asking people to stick to the football side, not hard to do.

If you want to, it is generally an unmoderated part of the forum but as the subject is emotional to many then it will be moderated.

This thread is for FOOTBALL side of things only.

As a left footed winger he would be ok back up, but I'd rather have Matty Phillips if it was one or the other. I'd probably have Brunt ahead of him too.

While we do need cover, for too long we've relied on the same core of players, and if we need to develop further, we need to be looking at players who can displace those core bodies.

Back up for Brunt, decent impact player off the bench, Premier League experience, no brainer for £1.5 million.

Seems like good value if it goes through. Not much risk at 1.5 Million if that figure is correct.

I don't think he'll be backup for Brunt, I can see them being a left sided combo. McLean is a very good and pacey player. Brunt is only going to lose a yard as he gets older and he certainly has the brain and ability to play at LB.

Our team is absolutely desperate for a bit of pace, Pulis is no fool, he knows he has limitations, but its a yes from me due to budget limitation v what he offers.

I dont rate McLean at all, hes like a Sunday League winger, tries a few turns and flicks that come off once or twice, so tries the same thing again. Hes no where near good enough for the Premier League. Championship at best.

He showed some promise at Sunderland, I'm sure Pulis will believe he can get the best out of him.

Who do you reckon Brunt will be backup to?

You sure? I honestly think Brunt will be starting next season at left back.

I get this impression too. I think Brunt's new position is left back. Pretty sure he played there for his country the other night too.

I think you're being far too harsh on him there Jimbo. If you compare his goalscoring record to Bolasie and Zaha and Matt Phillips who are similar players:

Bolasie's last 2 Premier League seasons: 4 goals
Zaha's last 2 Premier League seasons: 4 goals
Matt Phillips last 2 Premier League seasons (2010/11 & 2014/15): 4 goals
McClean's last 2 Premier League seasons (back in 2011/12 - 2012/13): 7 goals

There's an argument that he's not as effective as he was back in those PL seasons and you're right. In his last 2 Championship seasons he's scored 9 goals in 73 games which is not great. A goal every 8.1 games.

In the Championship Callum McManaman scored 8 goals in 53 games (less games with Pulis signing him in January). A better ratio of a goal every 6.6 games.

In Bolasie's last 2 seasons in the Championship he scored 4 goals in 66 games. A goal every 16.5 games.

In Zaha's last 2 seasons in the Championship he scored 12 goals in 84 games. A goal every 6.8 games which got him his big money move to Man United.

In Phillip's last 2 seasons in the Championship he scored 7 goals in 55 games. A goal every 7.8 games.

Zaha and McManaman did better in the Championship than McClean did, but that doesn't mean he was a million miles away. If anything you could say Bolasie was the Championship player if you're judging them on the goalscoring stats...

He's played at left back for Northern Ireland for a while now.

They don't have a specialist left back and usually use Shane Ferguson but he's either been injured or in woeful form meaning Brunt has had a prolonged run in that position.

Brunt at LB is still a square peg for me despite doing OK there. We need to bring in 2 quality genuine full backs and a LM as first choice with Brunt as cover for both LB and LM.
