Sad news about Georgios Samaras Grandfather who was a well respected member of the football community in Melbourne. Message below is from SMFC whom obviously owe a great debt to this man. Condolenses to the Samaras family. Zoi se sas Georgio.

South Melbourne FC is saddened at the news that Georgios Samaras Senior has passed away at the age of 91.

Mr Samaras was a prominent member of the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria in the 1950s and 1960s. Following the merger of Yarra Park, South Melbourne United and Hellenic, he contributed in establishing the newly-formed South Melbourne Hellas in becoming a powerhouse of Football Federation Victoria in the 1960s.

Mr Samaras' son Ioannis (John) Samaras play...ed for OFI Crete, Panathinaikos F.C and the Greek national side throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Ioannis fulfilled a childhood dream when he returned to Melbourne to play one match for South Melbourne FC as a guest player on 6 June 1988. On that day, he scored a goal as South Melbourne defeated Sydney Olympic FC 2-1 at Middle Park.

Ioannis' son Georgios (named after his grandfather) is a current Greek international player and plays his club football for West Bromwich Albion in the English Premier League.

South Melbourne FC sends its condolences to the Samaras family in this very difficult time.

Was trolling through the regular sites and noticed for all this season we have never been outside the top 10.
2 weeks 3rd
3 weeks 4th
5 weeks 5th
4 weeks 6th
6 weeks 7th
7 weeks 8th
7 weeks 9th

This is truly amazing, also we have done the double over Liverpool, QPR, Southampton and Sunderland, with Norwich and Wigan to be decided.
Possibly 6 teams.
Also, Arsenal is the only team to date that we haven't got a point off, Yanited and Citeh to be decided.

To respect the great start to the season, may I suggest that we sign off every post on this forum with OLE. Let's see how many weeks it takes for someone to beat us. Also, our starting 11 only had one change from last season, interesting!

West Bromwich Albion FC / Roy's roll of the dice

Roy will make a bold move this Saturday and rest the entire starting 11 for the game against Chelsea. He wants to preserve their winning habits and feels that an away game at Old Trafford gives them a better oppotunity than a home game against Chelsea, due to their patchy home form. Question; how does Roy's second eleven stack up?

Have we finally got ourselves a manager that can make any achievement by any player in our squad pale into insignificance? Is this the reason we are seeing a group of players run onto the pitch lately and KNOW that there is absolutely nothing to say to the gaffer after a poor performance. Half the team at the moment wouldn't be the first picked by most on this forum, yet all have played out of their skins at some stage during Roy's reign. Makes me think of when Robbo was the gaffer and he orchestrated the Great Escape, he had the credentials, albeit as a player, and had a persona as a manager that was held in good esteem by outside people. TM and RDM were trying to establish themselves as good managers in their time here, maybe that was there undoing? Could the players have sniffed that out? Even a 5% drop in effort at PL standards is enough to turn 3 points into 0. Roy seem to play them on performance and not who they are. Being the best player in the Championship league means Jack to Roy. Another 7 unbeaten and we might have a Roy statue outside the Hawthorns? Hopefully not next to Michael J!
