Yes that's a bit of a step - he once said he'd only be tempted by Champions league in another country - so by way of contrast.

Cue the Pulis to Wales rumours/hopes on here

What an idiot!!

Leaves for a club in crisis with no money and bottom of the championship  :-\

His stock was still fairly high...why has he joined them??

Sunderland remind me of Wolves when they went down to League 1. It's a really difficult job to stop the slide.

Guess it's a real sink or swim scenario. ..if he pulls this around surely his stock will be higher...if not  👎

Think he's done well enough with Wales to get another international job elsewhere even if Sunderland goes belly up.

Whatever the circumstances, semi final at a major tournament will get him work after Sunderland.

Its a free hit really with Sunderland.
Everybody expects them to drop down again anyway.

I can't believe he's taken it on when his reputation is at it's highest point. He had to be able to do better than Sunderland the grave yard for managerial careers.

I agree, I think it's a real poisoned chalice. Uncertainty over the owners, a high pay roll full of underachievers - there's lots of work to do.

Not disappointed to see him go from a Welsh perspective, his tenure had run his course. Done an incredible job and would have got the Final had Ramsey played in my honest opinion. However similar to Pulis here, people became incredibly bored by his stifling tactics that were negative irrespective of opposition.

Won't be surprised to see Pulis get the job. Anyone but Giggs, and that includes Tony Pulis.

In terms of Colemans move it absolutely astonished me. Built his stock up so well to end up at Sundeland?!
