We desperately need a change of formation and tactics. Playing around at the back is ok on occasion, but shouldn't be the play we use every time. For me, this game is massive. Ipswich are bottom and are there for the taking. Fail to beat these and I think DM will take the biggest roasting of the season so far. It's one thing losing to a team like Leeds, but we can't lose to the league's whipping boys.

I'd like us to revert back to a more solid 4-4-2, rather than the 4-3-3 that has failed so much of late. I know 442 hasn't worked that well for us in recent seasons, but with the right personnel it should shut Ipswich out.

Bond

Holgate
Dawson
Hegazi
Gibbs (if fit, if not then Townsend - a left footed player...)

Phillips
Johansen
Field
Montero

Rodriguez
HRK

Subs: Johnstone, Tosin, Bartley, Barry, Livermore, Harper, Gayle.

For me that team has pace on the wings and a more centrally-based attack. Get the full backs overlapping and we'll be laughing. Putting our key attackers out wide has not helped us lately.

I also want to see Bond given a chance between the sticks. If Gibbs is unfit we need a left footed player at the back, we can't play Tosin there. Not his fault, but it has to be a left footer.

And I'm afraid Gayle has been invisible since he's returned from suspension, so I'd drop him to the bench. Give BarryMore rests also.

You've slated Field every time he's stepped on the pitch and you think being alongside Brunt would help him on ?

Lol. I thought that. Field is useless apparently yet Jacko picks him now.  :o

Albion man, these results SHOULD be hurting him. Brunt too. As I said last night let's pick the players who CARE about this club. Those 2 now have to start, Field in Barry's role, Brunt pulling the strings.

Out of interest Jacko, why would you swap Tosin for Dawson?

Got to laugh at that, he hasn't pulled anything in a central midfielder role other than tufts of grass from his boots when he's standing to take a corner.

Players who care ? I'd rather pick those more suited to the job and unfortunately there are 6 or 7 more suitable in the middle than Brunt. Hoolahan would pull the strings with more class in there, he does seem to have made a bit of a career of it.

Brunt. Ha. Any remaining credibility you have has just gone up in smoke. Oh I forgot. You go to the games don’t you. A rare breed.

I’d change team and formation. Barry, Harper and JRod need a break, plus we need more of the ball. I’d try 451 with Phillips in midfield.

I’d go:

Johnstone
Holgate Hegazi Dawson Gibbs
Kanu Phillips Field Johanssen Murphy
Gayle

Sorry mate but that team is a mess. Kanu wide no pace, Field inside him left footed, Gayle as a lone front man.

No.

Sorry, wasnt meaning that Field is specifically inside Kanu. He would be in a midfield three centrally and slightly deeper than Johansen and Phillips with Murphy on the left. Kanu wouldn’t be doing much different than he does now only slightly deeper on the right. I’m no fan of him but he’s been ok recently. Midfield get the ball, push it out wide to Murphy and Kanu, or through Phillips, with Gayle playing on the shoulder where we all think he can do most damage.

That's the team I would go with providing all are available. We need to freshen things up a bit. Barry needs a rest, he cannot keep going at a high level week in, week out. Rodriguez has played almost every minute of the season, rest him too. Harper needs taking out for a while.

As I suggested last week, switch to a diamond. That way we get Gayle central and let him play off Robson - Kanu, Morrison at the tip of the diamond, width coming from full backs and Field sitting in front of a back four which was hopelessly exposed at Leeds.

Start with that and we have options on the bench to tinker during the game if we need to. (Are you reading this Darren?)

I don't know whether to look forward to this game or dread it. Ipswich have won 3 games out of 35. We just can't mess this one up can we?

East Stand              1,235
Brummie Road        890
West Stand             306
Smethwick              Sold Out

Remaining:  2,431

Over 21,200 sold in home areas. I don't know how to predict the sales this week given out dire home form and our even worse than dire non performance at Elland Road. I'm guessing we will probably sell another thousand or so which will mean a home crowd in excess of 22,000. Probably something similar to the Sheffield United game (22,225).

I've no idea how many Ipswich have sold but I can't imagine it being many. I'd estimate an overall crowd of around 23,000 - 23,500.

Ah, reminds me of Ardiles. Decent side and we definitely have the full backs to make a diamond work. However I just think we need to dominate the ball more and have some width which is why I’d go with a 5 in midfield.

Plus Murphy has already proved to be a goal threat and for me if he is fit then he starts.

Either way something needs to change for the next match.

Any team as long as Phillips, Murphy and Gayle are on the pitch (assuming fit), we need to take the game to them from the off, and those three can all beat their man around the box

Holgate   Dawson   Hegazi   Gibbs

Phillips   Barry   Johansen

Murphy   Gayle   Montero

Give Johansen and Montero a run of games to get their sharpness back and make a difference.

And are you going to be tolerant of us losing a few games whilst they get up to speed?
