They really are awful.

Just seen a stat saying it's Rosenberg's 17th goal this season. Quite amazing that he turned out to be such a flop here.

The pundits did not think it was a sending off, I wonder if it had been an Albion player on a Liverpool player they would have had the same opinion, definite red card IMHO.

I just think it was extremely stupid of the Liverpool player to give the referee a choice to make, despite looking over his shoulder twice he should know he has no need to put his hand out as the opposing player was nowhere near close enough to challenge him. At the same time I hardly see it as a foul to be honest, let them use it as an excuse but anyone who watched the game will be able to tell you they were clearly second best all night.

Surely if you look at an opponent then poke him in the eye/face, its a sending off under any circumstances.

A really stupid decision that the Liverpool player made. The ref had a clear view of it and for me it was a red card.

For me its not a red card, but as someones said above, Markovic looked over his shoulder twice so would have known he didnt need to hold the player off as he was past him anyway.

By looking to 'sheilf' the ball, hes given the referee a decision to make.

Red card all day long. Eyed him up and swung an arm out. He was two yards away so didn't need to do it.

Didn't make a difference to the outcome as Liverpool were shocking, bit like the famous 'atmosphere' . If anything they improved with ten men.

Basle fans were superb last night.

I thought Basle played well also, I always end up impressed after watching them, the last few years.

They beat United last year at Old Trafford if I remember correctly?

Always seem to cause problems for our english teams.

Never a red card
Except that it is... Markovic looks over his shoulder TWICE then flails his arm back with fingers splayed. Essentially even if he didn't make contact, the INTENT is worth a red card by the fat that it was specifically aimed at the player's face. we know there doesn't have to be contact for it to be a dangerous action.

Terrible  decision. Red card for a hand off = 7 vs 8 every week.

It wasn't just a hand off the guy was two yards infront and eyed up the Basle player twice then swung out an arm. No need for him to do that.

You call whipping a backhand at another person's face a "hand off"?  I call it more of an attempted a B***h slap.. By the rules of the sport near enough ANY intended contact with the face is a sending off. Which as Morany and I have stated is made in this case by the fact Markovic looks to see where the player is before committing. take the refs position into account where he sees the hand in front of the face and not the necessarily the depth and, from his POV, it's stonewall.

I can only assume that you have never played football. Was  an attempt  at  a hand off. Player just wasn't as close to  him as he thought. Terrible decision and terrible  play acting

Why would you need to hand someone off in the face?

Strength comes from the core really, so surely you'd want to push them away there?

It was a sending off. If he had done it to me I would have been sent off within the next 5 minutes with a large amount of retribution.  ;D

I'll stick up for Jacko here as I do see him quite regularly at away games so very much an Albion fan. I don't always agree with him on certain things but wouldn't question his loyalty to Albion.

(Although i'm sure he had an half and half scarf on when we played at Anfield  :D )

As for the sending off not seen it but if you raise a hand these days you're inviting the ref to send you off, modern football eh !! isn't it great  ::)
