I think the difference at the moment is we always look like we might get back into it when we go one down, or 2-1 down. It breeds optimism. Has anyone worked out how many times we've come back lately?

I also agree Evans is far more versatile than I gave him credit for. But I think on balance I'd still have him in place of Brunt at left back rather than in the Yacob role.

Decent game of football and a good result given Spurs recent record. Their keeper kept them in it. McLean my man of the match.

Spurs are playing so well at the moment, I think I'd pretty well settle for defeat. But not humiliation.

Another good performance taken over the 90 minutes. Pleased Pulis swapped it round a bit.

But the main point for me was the performance of Jonny Evans - have we found the solution to Brunt playing out of position at left back?

I know he played quite a few games for Man U at left back, so he's no stranger to it, but he really looked like plugging a worrying hole.

Better side obviously well in front, but we're not out of this yet if Pulis can just organise a bit better.

I'd like to see Sess playing a little higher just behind Rondon and McLean see more of the ball.

Not much to be done about Zarate's goal, although it was a sloppy free kick to give away in the first place.

Evans looking good at left back.

Nothing fluky about this. A cracking result well deserved. It showed the thin line between Pulis at his best and Pulis at his worst.

Berahino's miss was the turning point. Had we equalised then, it might have been a different story. How long can the lad be forgiven for squandering gilt-edged opportunities like that?

I thought Evans was our man of the match for two or three great blocks and interceptions at key moments. Sessegnon had a good game again.  But Brunt remains a huge liability. The real shame is that's no-one's fault - he's just not a left back and Pulis has no other options.

Very well done to all concerned - I thought that was a textbook performance.

Good move by Pulisto double up down the Norwich right to allow McClean to help out Brunt,

Myhill had a cracker too.

Oh, and did I hear Villia got beat!!!!

Perhaps I'm easier pleased than most, but I didn't think we were that bad.

Positives are another clean sheet and a point against against a decent side. Rondon ran his socks off and at least Berahino got  kick. Yacob did what he does well. Good squad depth.

Decent first half between two decent sides - which says a lot for us. I think Southampton just about sneaked it so far, but it looks like a mistake or a moment of inspiration to really break the deadlock.

Evans is beginning to show an interest and Macca has had some good touches.

The ref is being conned a bit by both sides, but I didn't think it was quite a penalty.

We deserved a point, I felt. But you can't give sides like Chelsea a two goal start.

Some good signs - Rondon looked fairly sharp and I think he'll only grow as the season progresses, particularly if Berahino is on his bike finally.

All I can hope is our season starts next week.

Last  ball into the final third has been woeful, but mainly a defence like a lump of Lurpak.

Can't get to a Sky TV tonight, so anyone got any lap top streams? Can't really remember any to search for from last season.

The one I first thought of was Kryzywicki. My memory may be at fault but  I seem to think he was known at the time as Nicki not Dick.
No, definitely Dick. I don't remember him being that fast though. I'd have thought Clive Clark from the same era.

At least that means we're mathematically safe, but it's just as well we did the hard work over the last couple of weeks, because this was a very lacklustre performance.

I thought Brunt did OK, but we seemed set up not to lose rather than to go for it.

Well that was a bit of a turn up!

For me, it was the difference between a resolute team performance and a side defending in state of panic. knowing they will be picked off at some stage.

Myhill was the match winner.

We're not exactly parking the bus just yet, but the signs are there that we're already playing for time. As we've seen only too often, that's a dangerous game to play.

Not sure what Pulis does about Brunt other than getting Zara kicked off the park. But at the moment it looks like route one to our downfall.

What a disgraceful display on what should have been an afternoon of celebration and thoughtfulness in equal measure. Not one of this lot is fit to lace the boots of any of the '68ers.

Can't help thinking this is going to be a long afternoon. If only this current crop of players could find the emotion and passion to match the occasion.

If the writing wasn't already on the wall before the game, it certainly was after 89 seconds.

We've only got ourselves to blame, but with home matches against QPR and Leicester to come, there's no bones broken today short term.

Longer term, however, there are too lessons from today.

Berahino will certainly want away. As a young lad trying to make a name for himself it must be hugely frustrating to try and do it as a lone striker with no support whatsoever. If I was him, I'd be asking myself what I was doing at the Hawthorns anymore.

And Jonas must surely have played his last game for us. A great servant to the club, but his legs have gone.

Awful, awful second goal . When your back's against the wall you simply can't afford that sort of joke defending.

All we can do now is stop it becoming too embarrassing. The stats speak for themselves in terms of possession and shots on goal, but if we can keep the only stat that matters within reason, I suppose I'll settle for that.

Strangely, the sending off hasn't made too much difference to the character of the game given our team selection and mind set.

A painful second half awaits.

Stuart or Graham Williams - couldn't separate them then, and won't separate them now.
