I quite liked the 5 at the back - i think it gets the best from Gibbs who i thought looked good, i do worry about Nyom,s defending as he is prone to diving in unnecessarily and his judgement of the high ball is questionable at best. its how we set up with the other 5 that would be a bigger concern as we will need more pace, more creativity and better finishing than that - although to be fair even how we set up last night caused arsenal a lot of problems in the first half. Quite what happened in the second half i dont know!

whether we can find pace, creativity and finishing in our current squad is open to question

Sorry mate but I don't know how you can say Gibbs looked good? I can't see a single positive from him apart from pace. He can't defend (certainly not to Pulis standard of defending) and can't attack. I just don't see the point in him.

Also unsure how people have hailed Nyom since he joined... he's done a job on occasions granted, but he's one of the worst footballers I've ever seen, every time he gets the ball/goes in for a tackle I look away.

Anyway, on a positive.... I like the new system it works well and makes for better viewing. Get Dawson on the right for Nyom... Gmac back in centre with Evans and Hegazi... Brunt for Gibbs and we have a good team there imo

Played well. Looked good with the 'new' shape and high press. Rare under Pulis I've said we lost and played well.

Agree, this formation is the way. 5 defenders but 2 up top. Least we get the best of both worlds.
It is a mistake to theorize before one has the facts. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts.

We are still desperate for someone to provide the link to the forwards,
Options seem to be
a) Chadli - not fit - still -  :-\
b) Brunt - not for me, sorry Jacko
c) Gregorz - worth trying hm there.
d) Mozza, definite no, not cutting it anymore.
e) JRod, I would try it, he is skilled and has a good engine.

Personally,  if Chadli isn't fit give Greg a couple of games there.

Think it's woeth mentioning that the reason this formstion worked is that Arsenal don't tend to cross the ball so if you pack the centre with 3 CBs and 3 DMs you will stifle them in the centre.

Their width comes the full backs which left JRod and HRK 1 on 1 with their centre backs a few times.

Right tactics for the game, not every game

Is Chadli really unfit or is Pulis still giving him the cold shoulder?

First half we were decent, very unfortunate not to be level - in part mostly due to poor finishing.
Second half we were poor, deservedly lost, Nyom with a silly foul when we were still in the game. On a brighter note, I thought our Polish lad played very well and looked lively.

I think it was a good 1st half showing. We won the ball back several times in midfield through' mainly Krychowiak and yes Livermore. Also a couple of bits of quality from Barry and Krych to set up the couple of Rodriguez chances. The midfield tired second half. It was a pretty fluent game and matching Arsenal in that type of game will take something out of midfield legs.
If we are playing two up top against a top 6 team we are unlikely to play Chadli behind them whatever the formation...whatever you think of Livermore he has a physical presence which Chadli does not. It may have been coincidence but we were less effective when Morrison came on.
Agree it doesn't seem right leaving Brunt and Phillips out as their delivery is so good even though the formation does have some benefits in a game like that.

Arsenal 3-0 West Brom

Lacazette x2, Ozil

If I had known Ozil wasn't starting, I would have clearly changed it to just the 2 Lacazette goals, so technically I was right...
