West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Next manager...

Does anyone know anything?
It just seems a lot of guess work to me..

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48296049

Danny Cowley & Chris Hughton under consideration for manager's job.
If all the rumours are true then there seems little in the way of cohesive planning.

Hughton - Out of work, so technically free although wage expectations would be fairly high. Good record of promotion from this league. Plays ok football in Champ, not overly expansive or defensive, fairly mainstream

Cowley - In work but in lower leagues so compensation not excessive nor would his wage expectations be. Plays god awful football and makes no apologies for it.

Viera - In work in Ligue 1 so compensation would be high as would wage demands. Little experience to go on so no real idea of his style of play but record average at best.

I hope these are all just paper talk as they just seem far too different. I would like us to have an idea of what we are looking for and interviewing managers that fit the model rather than just a scattergun approach. Smacks of an accountant pulling the strings and testing the various waters from a financial stand point.
If Dowling has any sway (if indeed he exists at all. Have him and Jenkins ever been seen in the same room) he should be laying down a blueprint of how the playing side of things should move forward and identifying managers that fit the model.

This worries me more in the article from Shan's mouth "The mentality of the owners, technical director and chief executive will definitely steer this club back into the Premier League."
The line before says they've guaranteed him a place on the coaching staff so he's hardly going to say anything derogatory. Personally, I hope he's right and they do steer us back to the Prem. I just hope that, when it happens, as Albion79 says,  it is with a young, attack minded team and philosophy and not a stale dinosaur.
Potter or Johnson would be my choices.

I said before the game that, whatever the result, we could leave nothing behind and boy did we not. Players and fans were amazing all night, fantastic support and atmosphere. My voice must still be echoing around the Hawthorns.
Walked out, head held high and proud to be a Baggie!
Come August I will be happy to look forward to another season in the Championship.
Hopefully with a new manager and philosophy we can make an even better fist of it than this year but for me, Moore's sacking aside, it has been a fantastic roller coaster of a season. Wouldn't swap it for a 17th place finish in the greed league that's for sure.

Quiet night?? I bloody hope not!!
Not from my seat it won't.
It's one thing to come on here and moan about everything and anything but, if any fan struggles to get up for a game like this then, they are watching football for the wrong reasons.
Said before, tonight is not about money, dodgy chairmen or feckless executives, it's about US and OUR club. If we can't raise our game then why should we expect them to?
COYB. Whatever the result, leave nothing behind!

Don't think we'll see any pooh or bust approach tonight, Shan has already advised patience. He's also laying it on thick about the part the fans can play and I have to agree. The Villa fans bought every decision on Saturday and the ref was swayed, we need to do the same and create a really hostile atmosphere.
Not going to put a team selection up because I'm not bothered what 11 comes out so I'm going to do the only thing I can to influence the game and that's get stuck in from the 1st whistle. Games like this is what football's all about, tonight's not about money or Chairmen or racked off Chief Executives, it's about us!

If we go up, I wouldn't put it beyond Jenkins stupidity to have him top of the list.
I'm sure Dowling would intervene though, that is if he actually existed.

All we need to do is win the game, something we've done plenty this season including against the Villa. Doesn't matter about clean sheets, we just need 1 more than them to stay in it.
Anybody old enough needs to think back to Swansea and replicate that atmosphere, anyone who isn't should be studying youtube.
As long as we give it everything, as players and supporters, then there should be no complaints.

Can't believe people are giving up, we are very much still in this tie.
Those old enough should remember Swansea, 2-1 down 1st leg, won the home leg 2-0 in one of the greatest Hawthorne nights in modern history.
Ok Gayle is out, time for someone else to become a hero.

Moaning like mad on here which I will do when the team news is announced  ;D
Can't say I will disagree  :)
Am really trying to condition myself to not get bogged down in the detail for this one. It's 11 vs 11, not bothered who they are, he can put Brunt in goal if he wants.
If I have a voice left come Wednesday I will have failed  :)

No.

This is too important a game to accept such negligence.
What's the alternative? Not to Bartley but to acceptance?

2711
Absolutely! Team selection irrelevant, whatever 11 comes out they need 100% from us.
Yes, even Bartley!!!  ;)

Have we tried Holgate at CB? I know he can/has played there before for others. Keeps Bartley out and lets Phillips in.
See above mate, that's what I would go with. Haven't tried it all season though so doubtful we will now.
Bartley will start, need to just accept it and get behind him.

The Sportsman will be chocka as will the Vine and the Desi. Not sure if the Sandwell or the Billiard hall have sky? Will be watching in sunny Tipton then head to West Brom for a celebratory drink afterwards.

They have four huge players Mings, Grealish, McGinn and Abraham. We have two Hegazi, Gayle.

They are the better team. We have to hope for luck / the breaks and one or two of ours to over-perform while one or two of theirs under perform.
3 of their's played in the 2-0 win at Villa park whereas only 1 of ours did, yet we totally controlled the game. Think you may be hyping them up a bit too much.

Yup. They have thrown the original system they agreed out the window.  Tickets are effectively on general sale as long as you're on the database.
The away game??

I would just like to thank both Liverpool and Tottenham for showing me that we should never give up.
I have been feeling as negative as anyone about our chances but it's time to get on board now. These two champs league games should give us all hope and, whatever happens at Villa Park, we need to rock up on Tuesday and raise the roof! These games do not come around very often, we should be loving every minute of it, not sulking and moaning.
I know we are no Liverpool or Tottenham but Villa are no Barca or Ajax either and we've shown more than once this season that we are capable of a fightback, when necessary.
Come on boys, let's put em out!

                     Johnstone
Holgate. Dawson.  Hegazi. Gibbs

Murphy.  Phillips.  Johansson.  Brunt

                       JRod
                                Gayle
Can't see us suddenly going 442, think it's probably 352/451

I would go

                        Bond
           Holgate Dawson Hegazi
Phillips Johansson Harper Field Gibbs
               Gayle Rodriguez

Not much chance of a clean sheet but at least a goal threat.

I think we'll see
                        Johnstone
            Dawson Bartley Hegazi
Holgate Johansson Livermore Brunt Gibbs
                 Gayle Rodriguez

No real threat from the bench either way should we go a couple behind but that's nothing new.

Where is everyone watching the game this weekend?

I live in South Birmingham so all local pubs will be Vile.

Didn't really fancy going into town but it's looking like my only option.

Would snatch your hands off for a draw, or even narrow defeat, after that today. Really tear Villa could be out of sight after the 1st leg and the Hawthorne game becoming a dead rubber.

Qualities required for a local derby:

Passion
Purpose
Resolve
Desire
Discipline
Shape
Leadership

We have none of the above and we gave away our last shred of dignity when we sacked Moore. No chance of going up and probably don’t deserve it.

Anyone considered this nightmare scenario?

Boro lose to Rotherham and Pulis gets the sack

We win the play offs and get promoted, yet are still technically managerless so, advert goes out for manager with proven Premier League track record.

Sweet Dreams  :o

So if we beat Derby, Middlesboro could get the play-off spot. We could then finish third, and face the Pulis across two legs.

But if we lose Boro can't get the last spot, but we end up playing Villa.

A draw means we might see Boro in the play-offs, but we'll play Villa.

Talk about a nightmare scenario.
Villa are the only team we can play who we are unbeaten against.
Head to head

Villa 4-2 won 1, drawn 1
Derby 1-4 lost 1, ??
Boro 2-4 lost 2
Bristol City 6-5 won 1, lost 1

Finish 4th and take the easy route  ;)

Fair enough. Still generally want to manage momentum with getting players to peak fitness (incl. avoiding risk of injury/suspension) for the play-offs.
Definitely need to rest our most important / vulnerable players so no Phillips, Gayle, Hegazi, Gibbs or Rodriguez for me.
Bond should have a game as well and, if he does well, keep his place for the play offs. How Johnstone has survived all season is beyond me but it's not too late to change. Bond could be the difference between success and failure.
