Albion are delighted to confirm the season-long loan signing of Ecuador international winger Jeremy Sarmiento from Brighton.

The 21-year-old made 12 appearances for the Premier League outfit last term and represented his nation in all three of their group fixtures at the 2022 World Cup – including a 2-0 win over hosts Qatar in the opening game of the tournament, and a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands.

Sarmiento arrived in London from Madrid as a child, developing in the academy of Charlton to earn various England youth call-ups, before moving to Benfica in 2018.

His transfer to Brighton in 2021 was quickly followed by a first cap for Ecuador – the birthplace of his parents. The versatile attacker claimed Brighton’s 2021/22 Young Player of the Season and has since earned a total of 13 La Tri appearances.

Baggies boss, Carlos Corberán, said: “I am very pleased to have signed a talented player from a Premier League club. He is an exciting player, who has great maturity for someone so young.

“The fact he has already played in the Premier League and at a World Cup gives me the confidence that he has the personality and desire required to keep developing his skills.

“He is a versatile attacker who can play on either wing, as well as through the middle as a 10, and his flexibility to play to a high standard in three different positions will be important to us.”

Head of Football Operations, Ian Pearce, added: “We are delighted to have Jeremy with us on loan for the season. We have remained patient in the market and have been rewarded by signing our primary target in this area of the pitch.

“Carlos and I remain focused on building a strong squad for the season ahead and Jeremy joining us is an important step in that process.”

Thank god for that. I was genuinely getting worried - hopefully this will ease a bit of pressure up top. In recent years our Brighton loans have done quite well.

Next, hopefully we get a striker!

BHA fans on their twitter reckon he will be the best player in the Champo if he can stay fit for it all.

If he can get anywhere near that will be happy.

Had a quick browse on a Brighton forum and they all have good things to say about him, looks like it could be a good signing if he stays fit.

I know nothing about the lad, at the very least he will be providing the pressure Wallace / Swift/ Diangana require to up their games
the road to the summit has dips, keep the faith when navigating those dips !!

Either, says he can play the number 10 role as well.

Excellent, much better than a has been 34 year old. What with some of the academy lads being involved with the first team squad, I can see the beginnings pf an exciting young team starting to evolve. Might spell the end for Diangana though.

Look at his wiki page now! It wasn't me, I promise.

Editing post, to quote:
"plays as a winger for EFL Championship club est Bromwich Albion (The real Albion), he is said to be the love child of Diego Maradona an is thought to be twice as good."

I have a screenshot but nowhere to put it. I thought I could just include it in my post but it seems to want a link to it somewhere online.

Did think that although current rumour is that GD is still a month away so any potential buyer is taking a risk.

Had a look on youtube looks like what we've been missing, bit of pace and trickery but looks very raw.

Need another Barnes/Diangana point to prove loan signing.

Good addition . With his apparent ability to play all across the attacking midfield positions it does leave me wondering who’ll be out the door next. Well have OK , Molumby, Swift , Phillips , Wallace , Mowatt , TGH , Sarmiento , Reach , Diangana . At the moment I don’t see Diangana leaving until January as teams will surely need to be convinced he’s over the injury

Could be a Barnes type signing this, provided he stays fit he should be too good for this division.

Hopefully they don’t have the option, that really killed us that year.

Official site says it’s a season long loan (as above). So I would guess there’s no January recall option.

Sounds like a good back up for Phillips, Wallace or Swift. With 5 subs even if he doesn’t start you would expect he would feature in most games.

Brighton have said theyd like him to have at least 35 games this season something they don’t think would happen if he stayed there !
