Will be keen to hear how Mat Phillips has tricked the MRI scanner into showing up a torn hamstring which he has allegedly faked

At the start of the season how many people would have predicted a back four of Furlong, Townsend, Kipre and Bartley would concede 17 goals in 18 games and be the second best record in the league?

I would wager absolutely nobody.

The true mark of any head coach should be whether a team is consistently playing better or worse than the sum of its parts.

I think its extremely clear he has passed that threshold emphatically. What a fantastic job he's done and I think we have to be very concerned about another club coming in and poaching him

One of the few players in our squad where you see elements of premier league quality shine through, even if it is in inconsistent short bursts (similar to Sarmiento and Diangana)

Keep him fit and he's a perfectly adequate option for where we are at the moment

From the saves he’s made in the last few games he’s probably about par for the season. He’s lost us points against Blackburn and Huddersfield but won us points against Leeds and Millwall. Best keeper in the division… never in a million years.

Literally nobody is saying that are they?

Most likely in and around the top 8 though, which is above par compared to the average member of our squad

For me if we sacked him;

>90% chance we get someone worse.

<10%  chance we get someone better and even then nobody we could ever attract is getting this squad into the top 6 so still effectively pointless.

This season aims are only ever about avoiding administration and avoiding a disastrous relegation.

One can squabble about formations and substitutions until the cows come home but I'd be absolutely flabbergasted if our average championship squad got relegated under Corberan. As long as the style of football isn't total dross to watch (which its not at all) he has my total support.

A far as I'm concerned Corberan being our head coach is one of the very few (and I really do mean very few) bright spots around this club currently.

I have actually been very pleasantly surprised he hasn't been poached by another club this summer.

Personally would prefer him to go to a league 1 club on a loan where he will play every game with no option to buy

I think there is a championship standard starting right wing back in there once he gets 12 months of proper playing experience under his belt.

We could come to regret a loan with option to buy

He would be better going abroad and away from all the likely protests a transfer here would inevitably bring, I would imagine a Galatasaray or Fenerbahce will come calling

I fully expect him to sign for a Saudi team on 5x his Manchester United salary within the next month

The victim could have gone ahead with the criminal case and then looked at compensation in a civil court, but domestic abuse is a strange offence with complex psychological factors. There's lots of study into it and even without Greenwood's multi millionaire celebrity status and the attention the case would have had making it more pressured than normal, you will still find lots of victims decide to forgive and stay with their abuser in some form of strange Stockholm like syndrome. The fact Greenwood can then offer a lifetime of unimaginable wealth to go with the usual factors is just another advantage Greenwood had in getting his partner to withdraw her support for the prosecution (if, as is almost certainly the case, that is what has happened).

100%.

The fact the victim is still with him is a total nothing burger as far as the should he play again question is concerned.

There is a very common trend of victims of abuse going back to their abuser time and time again in all walks of life.

For anyone who thinks her still being with him reduces the likelihood of him being a domestic abuser / rapist I highly recommend watching the fantastic Netflix mini series Maid which covers the subject better than I ever could in a message.

If the audio we have heard is real there should be absolutely no argument that he should never be playing professional football again unless MAYBE if he is proved to have shown incredible resource and willingness to change that appalling behaviour.

The people I see shamelessly defending him and celebrating his return on twitter makes me feel quite sick personally

Football, great to have it back isn't it :o, I really don't see the point in complaining after every game the club atm is up the creek without a paddle if you class yourself as a supporter now is the time to get behind the team and manager they need the fans more than ever. Corberan is a young ambitious manager who is probably busting a gut to get a tune out of the motley crew that is our first team squad.
You want a new manager be careful what you wish for.

Couldn't agree more with you.

I've gone into this season with no expectations of a top 6 finish (I have no desire to be promoted back to the toxic greed league regardless)

If the club avoids relegation, avoids administration and gives me some good entertaining matches along the way to watch win or lose then I will consider this to be as good a result as I could reasonably hope for.

If what I fear will happen in that fans start calling for Corberans head due to a (in my view) bizarre and unfounded notion that we should be in the top 6 this season, i'll be pretty disheartened

Totalling fair game for me. If supporter(s) want to abuse players and treat them like punching bags then don't get upset if one snaps and gives you some back.

Agree there has to be some kind of talks occurring or he wouldn't be named.

WBA twitter moaning he ain't got no money if true. If he tries a touch he will already be leagues ahead of Lai- money or not.

I have absolutely no interest in a multi billionaire sugar daddy buying us into becoming a mid to lower greed league club personally.

But each to their own.

If we don’t strengthen our attacking options then I see us in a relegation fight . We are one injury away from having no senior strikers available for a good portion of the season !

I think its safe to assume par is somewhere around 8th-12th

Some bad injuries, team performing worse than sum of its parts, bad luck, Coberan being sacked etc could very easily see us right down the bottom

On the flip side, minimal injuries, team performing better than sum of its parts, good luck and Coberan being here all season could very easily see us come top 6.

Its why the championship is significantly a more interesting league to be a part of compared to the greed league

It's the benefit of having saleable assets, something we sorely lacked in our relegation, when only an underpriced Pereira could attract interest.

It's like Burnley last season managed to shift 4 players for 65m, and reinvest 40m of it. These 3 clubs will end up making large profits also because they all have saleable assets and likely won't give them away at a pittance like we do.

It really shows up our approach to transfers and recruitment.

Yep. me and many others saw we were sleep walking into a disaster by keeping Pulis who was only recruiting players over 28 on high wages with no resale value and criticised it over and over again.

We are now paying the exact price that many of us predicted

On fire in todays training session footage the club have posted. Looks slimmer too, could just be me.

Won't be a popular take on this forum but the best thing we can do with Grant is to keep him and try and get the best out of him.

No point flogging him for 1-2 million this summer really when we need a lot more to repay this loan.

Even taking away penalties (which you still have to score but whatever) he's still had two seasons of scoring double figures in this division.

We need goals next season if we want a respectable finish. Fan darling Brandon Thomas Asante only scored 7 in 33 last season and we're not signing anyone new. If we can get 10-15 goals out of Grant everyone wins.

At least!

He's a 36 year old that scored 3 league goals in 37 appearances last season

Similar player to Jermaine Defoe he is someone who's game relied on short bursts of acceleration.

Now that has gone there won't be much of a player left.

Serious question for the people saying 'negative' things about Dara O'Shea in this thread.

If you don't think he is our best player, who do you think is?

Yokuslu is the only other contender as far as i can see

One thing that crossed my mind when reading this is Lai now prepared to completely sell everything not strapped down at the club in order to clear the MSD loan so he can continue funnelling money out of the club to China.

Has that not been obvious for at least the past 6 months soon as we conceded he was not repaying his overdrawn directors loan?

Make no mistake about it we need to find around 20+ million in player sales /wages reduction from somewhere to repay this loan.

30m for Josh Griffiths is in my view a hilarious number.

Notching a 0 off that number is the sort of fee i'd expect us to be receiving, and in our unfortunate financial state, snapping off

The positive for us on the Leeds link is that their club is close to being sold to an American Group (49ers) and their director of football, Victor Orta, who rated Corberan has already left so it is not clear how much interest they have left in our manager. That said, the President of this new group buying Leeds has oddly been on the Leeds board since 2018 so it's not a completely fresh revolution; and if not Leeds then other clubs in time will come sniffing.

Be interesting to see what we announce (or fail to announce) over the summer with the CEO role; as I can't imagine the manager is happy with the present skeleton set-up. He will want clarity on his budget and someone he trusts to work with on player trading; presently there is nobody left at the club with any strong links to agents or the industry, outside whatever scouting department we have.

His budget?

As in if he sells 10 million of players, what % of that could be reinvestment in player purchases?

As usual the truth (in my opinion) lies in the boring middle.

Obviously he's not some messiah genius tactician. If he was he wouldn't be managing in the championship to begin with and on the other end nor is he a total fraud stealing a living.

He is a relatively young head coach, who will make tactical mistakes, select some good line-ups, some bad line-ups, make some good substitutions and some bad substitutions.

The question really is whether Corberan is 'better' than any reasonable replacement we would be able to attract with our squad quality, facilities, location and budget.

In my view he is generally as good as we would hope to get for where we are currently so its in our best interests we can persuade him to stay for at least another season

I had a season ticket for a few seasons in the past but I would never but one now. The reason being that any money paid to the club is money paid to Lai, which is something I will never do. As soon as hes gone I will renew again but there is no way I am putting money in his pocket.

I will watch the majority on Sky for free ...................  Happy days !!!

I mean technically speaking having a sky sports subscription is still giving money to Lai
