I follow a thread elsewhere where someone posts an expected goals league table each week showing the variance between current league positions and where the teams "should" be based theoretically on the amount of chances created and conceded each game.

I know it's not perfect and doesn't necessarily mean anything as all teams are where they are, but interesting to see that it confirms what many of us think in that we've been particularly clinical and efficient with our finishing in terms of chances created each game, as well as churning out results where we may not necessarily have deserved them based on the chances we've conceded.

What’s the funniest song you’ve heard at a football ground?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Quick Restarts

Just a note of praise regarding our willingness to keep the ball moving when we win free kicks or throw-ins.

It's a breath of fresh air seeing us constantly try to put the ball down and find a man with a simple short pass to get moving again, and shows the confidence all of our players have in knocking it around.

Really noticed it tonight in particular with Sawyers and Livermore back. Doesn't give the opposition time to breathe and our passing accuracy has improved massively.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Baggie Buddies
« on: August 09, 2019, 04:55:30 PM »
Had an email from the club today about the Baggie Buddies scheme that the club is running. Aims to help those that live alone or feel isolated by pairing them up with a buddy to attend the match with. Looks like a great idea to me and was apparently successful last season too. More info from the email:

After the fantastic reception to the Baggies Buddies scheme last season, we’re expanding the initiative to further help people who feel isolated or lonely to reconnect with the community.

Last season, our team of Baggies Buddies welcomed and accompanied a number of people to a match at The Hawthorns.

Buddies are Albion fans who give two hours of their matchday to meet up before the game and provide some company to someone who may be new to The Hawthorns or just be keen not to attend a match alone. They’ll also be sat together to watch the match.

If you, or anyone you know, could benefit from the Buddies scheme and would like to join us on a matchday email buddies@wbafc.co.uk and we’ll chat with you to pick the best game and select a Buddy to join you.

For those that feel a Championship match may be a little overwhelming to begin with, we are now offering a Buddy for a special stadium tour and U23 matches at The Hawthorns following feedback from our team of Buddies.

There will be a special Buddies Stadium Tour every other month with a smaller group of guests escorted around the Stadium by our experienced tour guide and accompanied by a couple of Buddies.

You’ll get to see behind the scenes at The Hawthorns, learn about the Club’s fantastic history and familiarise yourself with the Stadium ahead of joining us for a match when you feel ready.

Tickets for Stadium tours are £5. To find out dates of the next Buddies tour or get your ticket email buddies@wbafc.co.uk

Every season a number of U23 matches are held at The Hawthorns and for anyone wanting to take in a football match, but not feeling ready for the large crowds of a normal matchday, this is an ideal way to start your journey.

To find out more about U23 matches at The Hawthorns or tell us that you’d like to join us with a Baggies Buddy email buddies@wbafc.co.uk.

We’ve also introduced the 'Hawthorns Hub' a weekly gathering at The Hawthorns for anyone in the community who wants to make new friends, learn new skills or maybe just get out of the house. Anyone of any age is welcome to come along.

Held on a Tuesday from 1.30pm - 3pm. There is tea and coffee on tap and we’ve run informal workshops on computer and smart phone skills for beginners.

There’s no cost to come along, if you’d like to find out more about what where we meet, what goes on and whether its for you contact gurdial.singh@albionfoundation.co.uk or telephone 07896 436490.

Baggies Buddies and Hawthorns Hub is an initiative for everyone. You don’t have to be an Albion fan – or even a football fan – to take advantage of the scheme.

As a Club we are passionate about tackling loneliness and isolation and with the support of our Albion Family we’re here for anyone in the community who could use our help.

West Bromwich Albion FC / One month to go
« on: July 03, 2019, 08:33:24 PM »
Who else is counting down the days?

What are everyone's predictions? Expectations?

Anyone else concerned with the apparent lack of transfer dealings? Or do we expect the club will get the right men in before 3rd August?

Is Bilic the right man for the Championship slog?

Which other teams are we worried about?

So many questions, but got to say I can't wait for the first game of the season! I wonder what we'll think when we look back on this thread in May?

Thoughts on the omission of West Brom players from this year’s team of the season?

Randolph (Boro)

Lewis (Norwich) Cooper (Leeds) James (Wigan) Aarons (Norwich)

Bowen (Hull) Phillips (Leeds) Norwood (Sheff U)

Adams (Birmingham) Sharp (Sheff U) Pukki (Norwich)

Manager: Wilder (Sheff U)

The automatics are likely out of reach now and we’re beginning to be looking over our shoulders at the teams below us to secure a play off position.

I don’t think we’ve been convincing for large periods of this season and certainly don’t follow the ‘we’ve got the best squad in the league’ mantra. I think if we did end up being promoted with this squad we’d be looking at coming straight back down anyway, as there isn’t much premier league quality in there, and where there is they’ll be returning to their parent clubs next year anyway.

Is it better for us to not be promoted this year and actually try to build our own squad up that has a chance of competing in the premier league?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Goal Difference
« on: February 19, 2019, 11:05:54 PM »
Just looking at the table and noticed the decent goal difference advantage we’ve had for most of the season on those around us is down to only 1 goal ahead of Sheffield Utd and 2 ahead of Norwich.

Can’t help but think some of our silly defensive errors are going to come back and haunt us as it gets tighter near the top. On the bright side we’re a good 8 goals up on Leeds.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Pre-match establishments
« on: August 04, 2018, 01:11:51 PM »
With the big day being today, where does everyone go pre match? Bet we’re all stood next to each other at the various bars without realising!

Is your choice of pre match establishment a routine? Or do you change depending on who we’re playing/kick off times? Why do you go to your choice of pub?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Poppy Shirt Auction
« on: November 18, 2017, 08:06:39 PM »
Just in case anyone is interested in a bit more positive news, the signed poppy shirts worn by our players against Man City and Huddersfield have about 20 hours left on eBay, with the proceeds going to the British Legion:

Greg's is currently the highest bid at £360.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Worst Albion XI
« on: October 17, 2017, 09:04:59 PM »
Now that got your attention. Thought we could have a bit of a laugh and look down memory lane. Considering we've got probably one of our strongest squads now, what would be your worst Albion XI? Can add subs if you can't decide and a manager of course.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Hat Tricks
« on: August 29, 2017, 09:03:48 AM »
As was mentioned in the Burke thread, Lukaku scored our only premier league perfect hat trick against Man Utd.

We've had 5 players score a premier league hat trick for us in total. For a bit of fun, without cheating, who were the other 4 players and who did they score their hat trick against?

General Football & Sports / Playing away
« on: July 22, 2017, 01:52:49 AM »
Listening to the news and a debate the other day on the radio about the FA wanting to have 1 premier league fixture for each team played in another country like the superbowl. What's the thoughts on this? Would people travel abroad for a Premier League fixture? Would it increase the profile of clubs such as ours? Is it fair on fans that have bought season tickets? Would anyone pay to go abroad to watch a league game or should the clubs subsidise travel? Will it work as an idea?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Captain
« on: June 01, 2017, 10:49:53 PM »
With Fletcher leaving it's time for a new captain. Which of the current squad can step up? Who do you want it to be? Who do you think it will be?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Player of the Season 16/17
« on: May 22, 2017, 07:01:34 PM »
The player rating thread prompted me to make this one as I don't think I've seen a player of the season thread so far? I've only added those that have made league appearances this season.

Thought it would be good to look back at the positives of what was (if we're honest) a pretty comfortable mid table finish with a few exciting performances thrown in.

So who's everyone's player of the season and why?

It was a toss up between Phillips and McAuley for me, but I've gone for Phillips as he added that bit of excitement that we've been missing.

General Football & Sports / Diving

The FA votes to bring in retrospective bans on players for diving next season:

http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/39962886

Players who dive in English football will face bans from next season under new Football Association regulations.

Under the new rules, passed by the governing body at its annual general meeting on Thursday, a panel will review footage from the weekend each Monday looking for cases of simulation.

Any player unanimously found guilty of diving would be given a suspension.

The panel will consist of one ex-match official, one ex-manager and one ex-player.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Goal of the Season 2016/17
« on: May 07, 2017, 03:47:46 PM »
The club are running their annual goal of the season vote on the OS. Thought we could have an unofficial one. Yes it appears we've scored enough goals this season to actually have a competition!

Video here showing the goals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDxuNDNcq7A

Phillips v Southampton for me I think

West Bromwich Albion FC / Twenty's Plenty - Virgin Media
« on: April 08, 2017, 09:38:39 PM »
Thought I'd share this on here:

https://keepup.virginmedia.com/twentys-plenty

Vigin are refunding the difference for any away tickets bought for selected games at more than £20. Don't need to be a Virgin customer, looks as though you fill in a form and send them your ticket and they send you a cheque for the difference.

Our away game with Man City has been chosen in their line-up for anyone who's paid more than £20.  :D

BBC Sport Breaking News:

Liverpool have been fined £100,000 by the Premier League and handed a two-year ban on signing academy players from other clubs for a rule breach.

It relates to the club's approach to a 12-year-old academy player at Stoke City in September last year.

Liverpool will be banned from signing any academy players who have been registered with a Premier League or EFL club in the previous 18 months.

This second year of the ban will be suspended for a three-year period.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Team Spirit
« on: February 25, 2017, 06:03:15 PM »
After the comments about the Villa not interested in their own team mate injured on the floor, I think today showed how much team spirit we've got with this group. Really playing for the manager and each other. 3 observations of this today for me.

The Dawson incident, none of our players were away celebrating, they were all calling for the medics and more interested in him on the floor.

The two goals. Both celebrated by the whole team, really good to see. No attention seekers, all just happy the team had scored.

At the end of the game. Livermore and another jumping on Foster's back to thank him for the two saves at the end. Celebrated like we'd won the cup!

All of these made me feel very good about the team, and together with the last few real battling performances make me feel very proud of the team at the moment. This was the type of game we'd have thrown away the past few seasons, but the lads are really fighting for each other and it's paying off. Long may it continue!
