"Offence sells tickets defense wins Championships"

Provided Carlos does not lose the ability to organize a defense, each goal scored will generate more points than teams that aren't quite as solid defensively. On that basis I don't think we will finish any lower than 14th and even if there slight drop off in attacking output 6th isn't out of the question.

I posted the above in the Corberan topic without giving it much thought so I wondered if the records backed that notion up. They do, conceding less than 40 goals is nearly always a ticket to the play-offs whereas racking up goals isn't. We got 70 goals last season but pretty every season at least one team makes the play-offs or even automatic promotion with less and in some cases with goal totals in the mid 50's.

Thought this was interesting so had a Quick Look too. Whilst you can make the play offs with less than 70 goals, scoring 70 or above is basically the line if you are looking to guarantee top 6 with goals. Only twice has a team scored more than that in the past 5 seasons and not.  (Boro and Cov both last year with 70 and 71 ).

Hard to see where we have 70 goals (although it was last season and we managed it) so I can see how, how we do will come down to how good we are defensively

My heart says runners up, and that is the way I have voted.

I went with top half on the basis of the squad when I voted, which was weak, and based it on CC being the best manager in the division getting us up to about 8th in my mind at that point.

Interested to see what other additions we make and I will likely revise it as I rate the manager so highly

Would people rather I set the poll back to zero or just let people change their votes?

Could you capture the data from the first poll and then reset it? So we can do 'before and after'   ;D

Sorry Mark, totally missed it, doh!

I voted 7-12th (just for my own memory)

How about a 'PROMOTED' option? would include 1st/2nd and play off winners or i am asking too much

I've gone and put us 2nd.

It's a top 4 squad for me along with Leeds, Burnley and Sheff Utd. Neither of those 3 squads are as good a squad as Leicester/Leeds/Saints from last year though and we have improved our squad and have a much better balance now.

I think we can and should make the play offs again. Last year was a ridiculously competitive league and we managed it, this year isn't nearly as bad I think, with the relegated sides all somewhat weaker, and I'm not sure we will see a team do an Ipswich and come out of nowhere to get 96 points.

I wouldn't rule automatic out completely though I think it's unlikely, though if it's a lower end total then it's a possibility. but certainly squad wise it looks to me a top 6 squad, and I will optimistically say we are due a play off win from this division...

If we finish above Leeds and/or Burnley we will be going up automatically.

The only issue i see is the lack of depth up front. That aside the squad is fully stocked and Carlos is very good at getting what he wants from them.

Trying to not get too excited, i have us for 3rd/4th. But I REALLY want to say top
Whenever things look bad, remember the Port Vale, Grimsby and Walsall days... not so bad now, eh?!

Way too many options to get a good read, surely automatic, play offs, mid table or relegated is enough

I was thinking between 5th and 10th earlier in the year, but with the start to the season and the business that has been conducted, I think play offs are a very strong  possibility. Top two will be very difficult, but you can see us getting play offs and maybe putting our 4 play offs losing streak to bed.

Yes agreed on the striker comment. Not digging Cole out because he clearly is our 3rd choice but the drop off from Maja and Dike to him is huge. Praying for all strikers to remain injury free.

We have an opportunity in January - the recruitment team are already on it, global search for a striker :P

I’m going to go for 7th. I don’t think the league is weaker than last season.

I did previously think 12th and while it looks like we have depth and there are positive signs, I also think there are a lot of unknown quantities and it’s a big squad to manage and keep happy and a lot of new faces to bed in.

It’s yet to be seen how much we’ve improved the first team and that’s why I can’t go higher

Start of window I was happy with us staying in this league but I think we have signed well. If we can keep Maja fit and Dike can contribute we could well challenge for playoffs or top 2

Well, this Window has been grand. 😃
Earlier this year I posted that we would be lucky to achieve a mid-table position this season as I thought we would be doomed to languish in the lower half of the table.
The Patel Family, the astute signings and Carlos Corberan and his team has changed all that in a few short weeks and I’m now more confident of success than since Slaven Bilic was manager.
Automatic promotion.

I thought before this window we would finish between seventh and 12th. But with the business we managed to conduct, we really should be in the top six at least. Depending on injuries, of course.

Having said that, I don’t think the top two is beyond us if we stay healthy and keep our form to the best it could be.
