The most crucial appointment in 25 years.

I just hope we’ve called it correctly.

Pleased with the appointment, I actually voted for him on the poll. He's a modern coach and not tainted by too much failure which appeals. He also likes playing with the ball which I'm a believer in but is adaptable in his tactics which is important.

It's a tough job with a slightly unbalanced squad, lacking quality in a couple of specific areas and full of post-peak free signings with no pre-season behind them. Unlikely that there will be resoucre to back him in the transfer window and add in the question marks of the ownership, it adds further complications to the task in hand.

I've believed all season that the squad is better than the current position, let's hope Corberan can get us moving in the right direction.

It’s too late for this kinda thing. A twitter notification of Buenas noches was not what I expected as a slithered off to bed!

Muchos gracias West Brom and Ola mi amigo Carlos. Wish you all the best and let’s all support him and give him time to get the job right.

Head Coach title suggests a complete shift in structure on the football side of things, which as we know is massively needed.

I’m delighted with the appointment on the basis it breaks away from the nepotistic short-term old-fashioned approach that we had previously taken and have now appointed a modern progressive coach who will spend more time on the training pitch.

There are some pretty big gaping holes around him which will make this an increasingly difficult proposition. There are no foundations at this club and Gourlay quickly needs to resolve these to enable Carlos to focus on purely first-team matters.

As for the funds, the decline of this club will not be overturned overnightTherefore it is imperative we give Carlos the time to turn his club around. Given the football that we know his sides can play  I’ve no doubt the fans will award that time.

Go well Carlos.

He was my original choice on the poll so very happy to see him in. Did really excellent with Huddersfield, as noted by their season before him, and now season after him. Took a while to bed in so he should be given all of this season regardless of what happens. Now we can see if the side responds to an actual coach.

The one thing is the style he was successful with at Huddersfield won't work here, its one thing playing 3-4-3 when Sorba Thomas and Toffolo were wing backs, shifting that to Towsend and Furlong is doomed to failure as Ismael found out. It'll take some working out how to get a tune out of this squad. Still, he did show pragmatism and adaptation of his tactics at Huddersfield, he should keep us up. Beyond that it'll be next season really we hopefully see things come to fruition under him, I won't expect instant results as this team needs to be coached from the ground up.

He can hopefully use the games up to the world cup to work out the squad, then the world cup gives us a mini pre-season to help right the wrongs of Bruce, that will be the opportunity here. If we finish mid-table this season he'll have done a very good job.

What a weird time to make the announcement. Given the circumstances, this was always going to be a tough hire as we are at our least attractive and with our lowest budget in over 20 years. With that in mind, Corberan is probably a fair hire, not withstanding my slight concern about us needing somebody to hit the ground running and not being sure we have the time for a slow start which Corberan had at Huddersfield and Olympiacos (I won’t dwell too much on the fact the club allowed themselves to go 3 games and over a fortnight with a caretaker coach, hinting at yet more evidence of a lack of planning at the club).

If he can get us out of the mess Bruce, Gourlay and Lai have got us in to this season - and he probably should given we still have some talented players at this level - then we might still be in the promotion picture next season. He did a great job at Huddersfield last year after an admittedly poor first season and given they’ve been in and around the bottom 6 -7 for 3 of the last 4 years, it seems he performed a minor miracle nearly getting them to the premier league last season.

Whatever happens, we probably do need to stick it out with Corberan now, I can’t see us doing any better. We need to support him however with a technical/sporting director and a scouting team ready for next summer.

Happy with this appointment. Hopefully the reason the talks were protracted was that Corberan demanded assurances on the level of support he was going to get from the club. Not just players and coaching staff but the wider club infrastructure. It may or may not be significant is that his title is Head Coach.

Corberan joins us at a difficult moment. First priority is to keep us in the division there is talent enough in the squad for that. Beyond that who knows we have too much ground to make up om the play-off places so once we have secured our place in the division everything is about getting things right for next season.

I wish him well he has a hell of a job on his hands.

Great news. I hope he has access to the money Lai has promised to repay in time for the January window. Let’s face it, he needs a minimum of 4-5 new signings to keep us in the league. Hopefully he’ll be able to shift some of the dead wood to make way for the new ones.

Interesting appointment and one I feel the fans will be happy with (which is important).
Too often they have plumped for someone who fans have had concerns about and hence never fully got behind.
Very strange time to make the announcement though.

First thing I notice is that Corberan has been given the title "head coach" rather than "manager". The hopeful in me sees this as a good sign and that Gourlay is working on a technical director and a proper scouting network, however long it is taking.

As for Corberan, we'll he's young and fresh enough not to have had all his best years behind him, it's perfectly possible that his peak as a head coach is ahead of him. I see this as a positive. Whether or not he's the right man at the right time, time will tell. As with all, I judge him as he goes along.

One final thing. I'm used to all the players being younger than me but when the flippin boss is nine years your junior as well, it doesn't half make you feel old.  :(

Good luck Carlos, you're going to need it with this lot.

Still just about older than me, when we were heavily linked with Schumacher it was nearly the first time ever that we’d have had a manager younger than me which led to a realisation that I’m getting on!

I’m glad I didn’t dream this, well done to all those with attention to detail noticing “Head Coach” hopefully that does mean some things are being addressed. Looking forward to Saturday and am glad I got tickets for the Stoke game now!

Welcome Carlos. Do you really understand what you have got yourself into ?

From the fans point of view it's been a terrible time watching the decline in our club, and also the football produced on the pitch. I hope you have been assured the resources you need to change the fortunes of the team to a positive future.

Good luck, and I hope this time you are the one to take us forward for years to come.

Welcome Carlos, we’ve had a rather rough few years, we don’t actually ask much here. Just make us competitive and build a team we want to watch who gives their all.

Since covid something has been very wrong here, if you can break this spell you’ll go down in history.

A pleasure to have a genuine coach in.
