General Football & Sports / Re: Another manager gone

Can you imagine how the Vile fans will feel, especially if they get the Wolly

McClaren would be a good appointment for Villa, and for any Premier League team around the mid table area. It's easy to write him off for his failings with England but look at the miracles he worked at Middlesbrough and what has happened to them since he left.

He took FC Twente to the dutch title, who were not even challengers in the years before he took over. He's been given a rough ride by English fans since we didn't qualify for Euro 2008, but it's easy to forget the good work he's done in club management.

This is an interview with Xavi who talks about the difference between Spanish and English football, and it's very interesting what  he has to say about youth football

Whenever anyone in the media makes the obligatory albion reference, they will only ever refer to Hodgson and Odemwingie.

Our squad criminally underrated outside the Midlands which I think is a good thing in terms of keeping players, but playing on fifa it does get on my tits.

And v Man city in the cup , and at old trafford...

I agree at bolton he was impressive, i was very optimistic after seeing that performance. Let's not forget Man city in the cup he was playing against a teenage debutant right back

Agree about Miller and Mattock, think you're being overly harsh on Tchoyi though mate. He's definately not the most technically gifted player ever to wear the shirt but he usually has an end product unlike Thomas and Morrison who are both unbelievably frustrating at times.

See I would argue it's his end product that lets him down. he can go past players more often than not, but i'm fed up of seeing him fall over or give away the ball at the end of it. Obviously he scored a hat trick on sunday so it's hard to knock him but i think that's really just papering over the cracks.

I think he's a decent keeper, we just need better if we're going to progress.

Gilks or Kusczak two realistic shouts

The conference is getting stronger. Look over recent years, and how well newly promoted teams to league two do.

The likes of Dagenham, Exeter, Yeovil and I believe Doncaster to name just a few off the top of my head all got back to back promotions and this year Stevenage are in the play off final. Torquay will play them having only been promoted in recent seasons themselves.

AFC Wimbledon will do well next year, as will crawley somewhat more predictably. In the same token I can confidently say Barnet Macclesfield Bradford and Cheltenham will probably all be fighting relegation.

The new clubs are changing the face of the football league, as well as the clubs who spent time out of the league, but make their way back in, and personally I love it.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him at West Ham next season.

Going off to Uni next year probably so it's gutting i won't be around for what is potentially one of the clubs most exciting seasons in recent years

General Football & Sports / Re: Barcelona - a disgrace to football
« on: April 28, 2011, 12:22:27 AM »
If that's the beautiful game, then honestly i am so glad that I'm a football fan in England.

A belief that their 'beautiful game' is so superior that there is a complete refusal to accept that physicality is a part of football ruins these matches as a spectacle. The persistent finding of any excuse to hit the deck holding their face is quite frankly embarrassing, and Madrid weren't innocent in that.

But they constant surrounding of the referee from Barca was disgusting. Ruining the game which was far from beautiful. Honestly didn't even think Pepe's sending off was a foul, and without Mascherano and Co running up to the referee like petulant children whilst Aalves seems to be under a Lord Voldermort cruciatous style curse, the red card would not have been brandished.

Barca have a superiority complex, and it is fair to say they have walked the walk and have earned it. But as long as it transcends into the kind of behavior witnessed tonight, it makes it much harder for Madrid and others to do a job on them and that advantage isn't earned. It's bought.

He's a goalscorer, he has always scored a stack of goals when given a good run in the team. I for one was very glad when Roy brought him in against liverpool and i was disappointed he was dropped for mozza against chelsea.

« on: April 19, 2011, 01:25:21 AM »
Honestly I think he is a god awful footballer. I know he's scored a couple of good goals but he looks confused like he doesn't know where he is half the time.

However, giving that i'd given up hope of getting anything against a clearly superior chelsea side saturday, his 8 minute cameo was frankly so terrible it was almost brilliant. I haven't laughed so much at a performance in my memory, and im not talking about laughing purely because he was so bad, just his complete lack of technique and football brain makes his style so unorthodox that is very very funny.

On a serious note though, not good enough for me. Not enough to hold onto his 'unpredictability', he'll be seen off comfortably by many slightly bemused full backs in the future I feel.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: shorey v cech
« on: April 19, 2011, 12:34:56 AM »
Prior to the last two games Shorey has been brilliant all season. Second best signing of the season behind Odemwingie for me! I don't understand how people cannot rate the guy or think Cech is better.

Yeah he's made a couple of mistakes recently, but all his top performances where he looks incredibly composed and hardly gives the ball away far outweigh that IMO. Let's be honest, we're not going to find a better left back anytime soon and if he never made mistakes he wouldn't be at West Brom.

his kicking is good? who said that?  have you even been watching?

His distribution is brilliant. If you were to compare it to other keepers you'd realise just how much of an asset it is.

Boring boring boring Carson thread. We've been through this several times. He wasn't the only poor performance today, and recently he's been very solid.

Yes maybe Myhill deserves another run in the side, but that's different to Carson deserving to be dropped. Good solid keepers are very hard to find, as the known consistent ones will all have been taken. So instead of pitiful booing and jeering, would it really hurt to just pretend you like him and support the guy?

What has Parker done to deserve the best season for a player in the Premier League?

Carrying a team singled handedly for the most part of the season. He'd get my vote.

Albion Matchday Forum / Re: Should Cox be dropped for Mozza?

The general theme seems to be that Morrison is a better footballer, but I can't be the only that thinks he's been very average for about a year now?

Albion Matchday Forum / Should Cox be dropped for Mozza?
« on: April 08, 2011, 12:37:21 AM »
We're hearing very positive news on morrison being fit for saturday, but why do people talk like he's going to slot straight back into the first team?

Thought Cox was very impressive against liverpool and has more than merited retaining his place in the first team. Mozza is far too inconsistent to guarantee a regular slot in the 11 IMO, and it would be very harsh on Cox if he is dropped.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Abdoulaye Meite - An apology
« on: April 06, 2011, 06:37:53 PM »
I never understood why he was banished from the first team in the first place if I'm honest? 2 years back when him and Olsson were our best partnership in the premiership. It was just a shame injuries kept them apart.

Yeah, I know he had his bad games, but let's face it everyone knows pre-hodgson our defence has been shaky for the last 2/3 years under Mowbray and RDM, and i couldn't understand why the likes of Barnett, Martis and Olsson (when he wasn't the player he has developed into now), were forgiven and given more chances whereas Meite wasn't. The guy has champions league and top flight experience here and abroad.

I was extremely surprised and a little apprehensive when he was announced to face stoke, but what a great move it was. Just shows that RDM did have his favourites, and for what ever reason, the likes of Meite and Shorey seemed not to figure in first team action without ever really knowing why?

Albion Matchday Forum / Re: Liverpool Fans
« on: April 02, 2011, 08:12:31 PM »
All their talk on the forums is about Atkinson being terrible. Everytime an albion player goes down it's a dive, everytime 6 ft 4 Andy Carroll gets nudged he's been 'taken out'.

If they take a good look at the game, they'd realise that is the poorest liverpool side in years. Carroll was bullied out the game, and their only bright spark was Suarez. Regardless of whether the first was a penalty, they did nothing at all in the second half until the last couple of minutes. We were thoroughly on top of them for large periods and Atkinson or no Atkinson, we deserved to win that game.

Twice he's been here this season, twice he's been bullied. We all knew Jonas was going to wind up him no end, and brilliantly it only took 4 minutes for Carroll to have a swipe at him.
