He will be a good player for 6 months but it makes no sense to me.

Villa are propably not going down and they probably aren't making Europe. So the best part of £4m in wages for 6 months, plus whatever loan fee do achieve what exactly?

They'd be better off using that money towards something with a bit of forward thinking.

He isn't the player he was but his name is still well known in world football. By signing him, even on loan, it associates their name with players from the higher football echelons marking them down as a potential destination for other better players.

If they pull this off and it's even a remote success they could point to it as forward thinking and ambitious. They're looking to move onto a different level and quickly. The longer term plan is already in place and was formerly known as the Albion youth scouting and coaching staff.

Unfortunately, Gerrard knows what he's doing so Vile's star will continue to rise until he moves to his beloved Liverpool so we will have to suffer their smugness at least until that day comes or they grow restless when they have reached their peak like the O'Neil days.

They’re going to be even more insufferable now aren’t they  ???

Not sure that is actually possible.

Rob Dorsett is saying Villa are paying less than half his wages, Romano said paying nearly all. Love it.

I went on to suggest........

'If they pull this off and it's even a remote success they could point to it as forward thinking and ambitious'.

............. so no, not like how Sturridge and Krycowiak did with us as neither signing could be judged as remotely successful.

Big name player who really has not done a lot since leaving Liverpool.  Barcelona want him off the wages and will probably sell a few shirts for the seals who will see this as the new messiah. Can see it ending like Barkley did - hopefully.

I'm a bit surprised he hasn't ended up at Newcastle.

It's hard to rediscover your form after taking such a nose dive like Coutinho has. Even the Bayern loan never really worked out as it should and so Villa is probably his level now. I think he will be a success, he won't get back to what he was but he will have his moments and the seals will lap it up.

It does seem a bit of a pointless signing in that it's a 6 month loan deal for a club who aren't worried about relegation and aren't going to make Europe, so what's the point in spending so much money on a temporary move?

If nothing else, it's a statement of intent. This is the calibre of player a manager like SG can persuade to come to a Birmingham backwater.

In the Athletic today says they have option to buy for £33m and elsewhere reported they are (roughly) paying 200k per week of his 300k per week wages. Crazy.

Attention for anyone who doesn't think this signing is a decent fit. If you do the 'Colin' thing with his surname you'll realise that Coutinho was destined to play for the Vile from the day he was christened. Think about it. Have a lovely day everyone  ;D .

Amused by the Villa fan meltdown over the disallowed goal. Yeah the VAR length and nature felt a bit forced in the end - nearly 4 minutes looking at all sorts of different incidents, but at the end of it all, Jacob Ramsey knows exactly what he is doing. Loads of fans saying "so he has to move out of the way"? No, but if you stand facing the crowd as it runs at you, hone in on an opposition player and take a half step into his path and knock him over then you're committing a foul. Oh well  ;D.

They have been the better side mind - deserved more from the game.

So in future every time an attacking player is blocked off by a defender in the box is a penalty going too be given? On that decision tonight then the answer is yes, so let's see how many times it happens!

The little warming factor here for me is that it's cost them millions to become chyte,it's cost us a lot less than that.

Worth nothing the goal was disallowed for offside - Ramsey was stood in an offside position when it was played over his head. The fact he then blocked Cavani meant he became active and involved in play, thus a straightforward offside.

Gerrard post match admitted he had no issues with the decision when it was explained to him - his gripe was that it was a messy process to get to that decision.
