Its important to be aware of agendas, context and what has not been reported, especially when it comes to sports “journalism”.

Benteke's agent Kismet Eris told the Sun: "This always happens when he goes away with the national team. I'd prefer he didn't speak to journalists but the Belgian team insist he does a press conference.

"If he was unhappy at Villa we'd have seen that. But he's not."

and of course;

Christian Benteke finished the conference in the US with: “But I have no problem to stay another season at Aston Villa. I feel really good! And then there is a huge trust in me.”

Good ole’ tabloids ah?

Maybe the tabloids knew more than you eh McSkuttle ??

That should wipe that smug smile off their deluded fans faces, even though they did win the european cup.

The tabloids know Jack about diddly.

Poor form is this. You would like to see a club one day really do a number and swallow the fee and wages burying a player in the reserves for three years.

Best get rid though, to Chelsea apparently, God knows why they want two of his sort. But then this is what happens when you let people like Abramovich take overy an already scummy club. I would chuckle if he spends the mext year holding Lukakus boot bag and misses out on the World Cup.

I think they have done very well in the transfer market to be honest, just because you're not educated enough to know about the players they have brought in doesn't mean they're poo, nobody knew who Lowton/Westwood/Benteke were last season and look at them now, made fools out of every journo who slagged them off during the bad run they had.

Wow. Not educated enough? Bit personal? And untrue, I know we'd scouted Helenius last season and we watched him a few times and for whatever reason didn't go for him. I was merely commenting on their panic buying like a child with pocket money. I know enough about the players they've bought in to judge that the Bulgarian lad they've got in is decent but was convinced by Petrov and the Japanese guy they were looking at wont set the world alight and they're willing to spend £9m on him. The silly buggers think they're going to buy Lukaku now too.

Panic buys?

Sean was right, you are ill informed.

It came out from the Crewe management that after signing Westwood, we had collated a 30 page dossier on him. There is nothing to suggest Lambert panics about anything. I panicked in January, he didn't. He was right and I was very wrong.

Well we shall see how they do this season before anyone's opinion is branded correct or ill informed. But I'm sure there's more Balabans than Bentekes in that bunch.

No, you have made the point that they are panic buys. Based on what? Who panic buys in June? They are filling a squad, some may prove to be exceptional, but each one will be thought out and well scouted before hand.

Ok panic buy maybe wasn't the right phrase, more so that you seem to have just decided all transfers have to be done before Benteke leaves, and you'd signed 6 players before the window opened. I was alluding to the fact you were buying quickly and potentially over the odds because you were worried other clubs would sign your targets and miss out. It seemed frantic from an outside view which is fair to say.

I didn't until I got called out by one of our own and McSkuttle got a friend. Had to justify my words. I do enjoy how we get called obsessed with them lot and as soon as Benteke says he wants out McSkuttle is straight on our board.

Our class shines through yet again:

@JongsmaJongsma: FC Groningen director Hans Nijland compliments Aston Villa. 'The way the transfer has been handled is like we wish it would always go.'

hopefully you will show your classyness when you sell Benteke ;D

They are different type of players and would be an awesome combination up front.

Lukaku to villa, hopefully aload of bull

http://app.caughtoffside.com/tablet/?referrer=http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/655577414?-11177:843#article/caughtoffside-152055

The article has absolutely no facts or even really any suggestion that it'll happen - they'd be just as accurate in saying 'John Terry could be used in the transfer because he's a player at Chelsea'.

A few of my Villa 'acquaintances' have found the same article and come out with some utter hilarity: 'Lukaku + 10m,  nothing else'. One even said 'when Benteke takes back his transfer request let's sign Lukaku'

At least I think it said that, they were daubed in faeces on a wall and it was hard to read.
