Shocked
Perfectly valid reason to host the worlds biggest tournament, attended by the largest number of fans, in a country about the size of Birmingham where they have to build 9 new stadiums (at a cost of human lives) and completely renovate the 3 they had.
I can't remember whether we are going for the 2018 or 2022 WC's but I do remember out bid was described as 'perfect' yet didn't we get just one vote?
I may be wrong but it was 2018 and i think Beckham and the vile prince went to the event where they announced the bid winner. I still remember the fat moustached quatari delegate jumped up in celebration and thinking, yeah right you're surprised to get it.
Andrew Jennings was saying it was all corrupt years before that too, and anyone interested in this should read his old stuff.
The FA just accepted it as "that was way the things were done" and were scared about stuff they had done that could have been perceived as corruption.
It took the USA to start arresting top FIFA officials because they lost the 2022 bid, that anything was finally done.
