I'm not sure that anyone has said that prospective head coaches "have no desire to manage this great club".

I believe we did approach Tony Mowbray for talks, but TM declined for health reasons, Lee Carsley was alleged to have said he was not ready for Club Football yet &, I belive it was Russel Martin who said he didn't want to work in a continental style model.

In my opinion, a number of prospective head coaches with English backgrounds would find it difficult to operate in a Nestor/Continental model.
It appears that Nestor has found a coach with continental experience who he considers would be capable of delivering his vision. To be fair, Wicky, as an experienced continental coach, has a far better chance of success than trying to shoe horn a reluctant coach with an English background.
Good Post.
We could indeed have gone for 'a reliable safe pair of hands' with lots of experience in English football, but we've been down that route many times, and usually we've come unstuck. That would include Mowbray, even though we played some good football under him, its now time to move on. By the way, I would put Corberan firmly in the modernising camp, even though he had some prior English experience.

Luckily, we now have a forward thinking owner and executive who are planning medium and long term, rather than just day to day survival. For me, its about having modern training methods, being good at coaching players to be better, analytical about tactics, and inspirational. (though I accept old school managers can also be inspirational). I am hopeful Wicky ticks a lot of those boxes, and am intrigued to learn more about him (if it is indeed him).

Totally agree with above post. The owners certainly seem to be focused on a long term strategy, which is the correct ( and probably fiscally) the only approach we could sensibly take.
Wicky seems to fit this pattern, lets hope, if it is him, that he settles in and delivers.

He decided to take a break and went to various clubs learning.

He was offered 6 jobs in the last year (including Burnley) and turned them down.

But why let the truth get in the way.

Can you please provide the link for this information?

I hope he learnt a lot whilst "turning down" (a very quick search trying to find this rejection didn't find it) the parachute payments of Burnley, because it is very
different to what he'll find here.

All the very best of luck to him, if he is the chosen one, I hope he takes us back to where we belong asap.

My concern is purely based on my opinion of the Swiss league, which I don't rate highly.

I would have been more optimistic with Urs Fischer or someone proven in Italy's Series A (which is where I thought the manager would come from given the Bologna link).

There are some on here who think he will give youth a chance, but that can only be based on him being manager of Young Boys.

We know nothing about him in fact other than he did the double in a minor league which isn't very competitive and now he is coming to the blood and thunder of the championship where fans will even turn on you (you know who you are) when you are in the play off places.

I am not excited by him as some are, but I will give him a fair chance and I hope those on his band wagon now don't fall off it at the first bump.

But, as always I want the very best for WBA FC and I hope Wicky changes my opinion of the Swiss league and we emulate 1930-1931 this season.

If it is Tricky Wicky, let's hope we see more Young Boys.

My coat is in the hall and I am putting it on right now.

As long as our normally reliable defence doesn't become like swiss cheese under him, we have a fighting chance.

Tamper with that and I will be praying for over 50 points asap.

Those who turned their noses up to the likes of Dyche may soon discover the saying defences win titles.

I hope the contract is 18 months if he wasn't prepared to accept until the end of the season.

If Dyche had been in charge today, we'd have scored nil. Which is actually what his Everton side managed just a couple of weeks ago v Bournemouth.

Was it you who was dismissing Wilder too on the championship thread not long ago

These managers know exactly what is needed in building promotion winning teams, a solid defence and two mf generals who fight tooth and nail for every ball and how to get results on a budget.

They've done the hard yards and know the English gane inside out.

I may not be neutral on the Wicky impending appointment but if his side show a fighting spirit that keeps us competitive with this limited squad I will be very happy and pleasantly surprised.

I’m hoping today is the blue and white smoke day.

I’ve started reading some of the links shared from people regarding his time at Young Boys & Basel so thanks for sharing to those that did. Be interesting to see how he sets us up as a front 2 looks likely.

We don’t want Dyche, Wilder, Moyes etc… time to move on from these boring dinosaurs. Wicky is more in the Brentford and Brighton model and that’s where we need to be aiming. We have the hardworking midfield, most teams in n the division would take Mulumby and Mowatt. Now we need some attacking guile so all that work the midfield does doesn’t go to waste. Time for some progressive and forward thinking.

Wiki says he managed the U17s from March - December 2019.

I have no idea on Dikes youth record.

Quick Google tells me Dike was 19 in 2019 so would have been too old for U17s surely

If people thought Carlos was boring God help them if we got Dyche. If Pulis and Mike Basset had a child it would be Sean Dyche. His voice is so gruff from shouting "Get Back and Slow it Down.

We need the white smoke to emerge from the Hawthorns chimney however these things are generally done to suit the media particularly local media , setting up pressers etc ,so I guess that’ll be when the first inkling emerges

You could say exactly the same about a certain Steve Bruce as well  multiple promotions out of the Championship.

Yes. Wilder and Dyche are similar in many ways.  I agree they know all about building a solid defence and a fighting spirit. Its the creative side where they don't have much of a clue despite all their experience in the English game. I would also question whether they know what working within a budget is. Everton have a budget we could only dream about, and still they managed just 15 goals in 19 games under Dyche this season. And Sheff Utd brought on a £23million striker against us, who looked pretty hopeless whenever I've seen him.
