They did say about 2/3 days ago someone is due for a meeting with club next week ( as in tomorrow onwards) but didn't know who it was.

Interesting that there is an American connection according to Wikipaegia and Transfermarket

"On 8 March 2019, Wicky was named the head coach of the United States Under-17 Men's National Team.[22] On 27 December 2019, he was named the head coach of Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire.[23] He missed the MLS Cup playoffs by one point in 2020, and was fired on 30 September 2021"

Also interesting that he was a youth coach in 2019.

My thoughts entirely. I’m trying not to delve deep into his style of play and learn absolutely everything about him to only then see Alan Irvine get the job.

Just read an article about his time at MLS from neutral source and they said when it was good, it was great and vice versa. They also said he wasn't backed by club and given poor players to work with in mitigation. He put a front on in public but was apparently very unhappy in reality.

The article says he was set up to fail in many ways.

Sounds like he is the type of guy who will work with players selected for him which is probably what Bilkal want.

Alan Irvine was a great number 2 by all accounts , imagine if we appointed him supporting Pardew. Dream team.

I've been looking at our former full back Carl Hoefkens' record as manager. He's currently 10th in the Dutch Eredivisie managing NAC Breda, which is quite a respectable record, and they even beat Ajax this season. Before that he managed Club Brugge and got them to the knock-out stage of the Champions League. He later got fired by Brugge , but Standard Liege took him on, which is obviously another big job in Belgium. I rather lost track of him in Belgium, but I watch Dutch highlights and he seems able to motivate his team, though they seem to pick up a few red cards.
What's interesting is the Albion connection, so he would know the set up here and communication wouldn't be a problem.

Apart the location of the ground exactly what would he know of our current set up?

I've had better number 2's than Irvine.

Were you sat in the next trap so you could properly compare?

Didn't happen otherwise  ;D .

If you've worked somewhere, the faces may have changed if you go back, but you'll remember the atmosphere about the place. Many of the fans will be the same. He might have fond memories or not. From our point of view, he has decent experience at a higher level than the Championship, so may be worth considering.

You didn't mention the fans you said the set up as in the coaching, recruitment etc, etc, which he knows absolutely nothing about as everything has changed very recently, and he was here when Noah was so still finishing his ark.

No, no, no, no, no.

It’s not the answer. It’s never the answer. We need to learn from past mistakes

Ha ha call me the sensitive type but I'm picking up you disagree. Ok.
For me it was more about feeling unimpressed with the options being offered up.

Raphael Wicky finally sounds like an intriguing one though....

Unless we are waiting for people to be sacked then we should already have known and contacted our preferred managers because this should have all been prepared for long before Corberan happened.

Last time we took a long time to hunt for someone mid season it lead to us relying on Shan, and the time before that it was Pepe Mel.

You can't know until the moment when your present coach sends in his notice whether anyone you have on your prepared list is still available.  The coach is not going to tell you that he's being scouted by another club.  A month is not unreasonable in these circumstances.

You can because it’s a rolling list. If you can pay whatever it takes the list would be pretty much unchanged. If like us you have to watch the pennies then you constantly update the out of work bosses you’d be keen to interview.

You're right, but lets not forget that this happened on Christmas Day, pretty much. Its a time of year when its not that easy to start reopening contacts.

This is exactly whats going on. If you dig deep you will 8/10 find a source of their information. Think there was a time he was getting information. But not sure they do now.

He's from the German speaking part of Switzerland, so I'd imagine it's with a German accent - probably Vicky

Raphael Wicky is a new name in the bookies odds apparently.  Not saying it means anything
If this is a rumour put out by the club, does that mean it's a Wicky leak? Sorry couldn't resist it.

Interesting analysis of Wicky's tactics
(Quite a long read)
https://totalfootballanalysis.com/team-analysis/young-boys-202223-their-tactics-under-raphael-wicky-scout-report-tactical-analysis-tactics

Thanks for posting this mate interesting read. Seem’s to play in the same mould as Corberan with a narrow 4-4-2 in defence although maybe the pressing is done higher up the pitch. Ball goes into the wide men with lots of crosses into the box which also plays to our strengths. The one bit that scares me is the thought of Palmer being more involved in the build up, I love Alex but his distribution at times can be awful & I never feel entirely comfortable when he has the ball at his feet.

One really positive sign from that is that there seem’s to be a recognition from Nestor that this style of football that Corberan has implemented will be the blueprint of how we play & managers / players will be recruited to that style with the odd adjustment. Sensible, joined up, long term thinking Everything this ownership group does fills you with confidence, they won’t get everything right but I bet the’l get more right than they get wrong.

Agree with you on Palmer mid-long range passing but his short passing is fine.
