Can only really echo what others have said on individual performances and it took a while but we eventually looked defensively sound. Extremely happy for Maja

Superb and unexpected performance.
The only time I can remember scoring three in an opening game of a season was some years ago when we beat mighty Liverpool 3-0 at the Hawthorns. Must find time to look it up and see what the team was and who scored.

Don't do that, it will depress you  :)

Excellent today. Was a tricky game on paper and would have taken a point, so very pleased with the 3

I'm going to be controversial here and it's meant in good jest but has anybody noticed what's missing from today's match threads???
Answer - the Sam Field (who?) appreciation society  8) was he playing?

"He's available on a free end of this season. I'd swop Molumby for him now."

Is what i was going to say but just noticed he signed a new deal so forget it  ;D

An unexpectedly great performance!

I must had it to Furlong he really has stepped up his game over last season and today he was brilliant in defence. As were all the defenders and good to see Heggem starting so strongly.

Glad we can finally see what a fit Maja can do, that will give him all the confidence he needs to keep going.

Karlan Grant fair play to you, keep putting that effort in and you will be forgiven quickly. Deserved a goal.

John Swift also insturmental and worked harder off the ball than he was seen to last season.

I'll eat my words on Maja, but honestly the first time I've seen him do anything in an Albion shirt. Thought our defenders all put in a top storming performance. All of them , including Ajayi, and Heggem looks like the making of a top defender.
I’d imagine it’s because he’s hardly played due to injury

Except when he pointed at their winger instead of closing him down to prevent the cross for their goal, first touch iffy and position awareness non existent

Exactly right. Very harsh to say that we have seen nothing from him until today as he has not managed a run of games due to two horrible challenges. Some great finishes from him today. It’s only one game but what a great start. Let’s enjoy it while we can.

Yes I suggest that when we next play Sunderland we replace Maja with someone capable of trading kicking lumps out of Ballard.

I got into the ground late with the score 1-1, but that's another story.

I really didn't expect a win today, but I think our defending helped us with that win with so many blocks and clearances from the amount of corners they had.

Well happy with that result and Maja getting in on the action. Heggum looks like a good fit for us too. Early days but we got 2 more points than I expected today.
Great start.

Overall delighted as one can be with that. Maja if he can keep this up, then Carlos I believe brought him in and will be what we have missed and will deserve credit. Fellows forget Phil Foden Fellows is the Spark to start the fire, started slow but got better had his fullback on toast, Swift played well, Mowatt improved second half, Grant great performance, Heggem what a bargain this looks and it ay his preferred position. Ajayi looked Absolutely Solid keep this up and it's Cedric Kipre who, Furlong was good today. Bartley didn't do to badly and neither did Molumby. Who got an ovation and chants of he hits who he wants from our travelling support.

Credit to the Supporters to made me chuckle with some of them chants and I expect that Maja Mr Loverman to be nicked by the Villa or Dingles soon.

Carlos has certainly got a team here, with the new lads to come in and the injuried lads to return. What excitement this could be

Well that was unexpected. What a superb performance. We controlled the game and put passing was very good. Defended very well throughout. A joy to watch.

I know Fellows has had his plaudits already on here today, but I absolutely love the little look into the box he does between beating his man and crossing for the second goal.

So many players cross without looking these days!

I expected the worst but thoroughly enjoyed that
Swift showed again what he can do when fully fit ran the game at times, always available and showed an increased work rate off the ball
Individually our defence played well yet still seemed shaky at times but I thought there midfield runners were not tracked at times but that did improve some what second half
Grant did ok, that was a performance that should be the given from him regardless of end product but he put a shift in off the ball so fair play to him
CC mentioned after the game he wants another striker and I still think we need a direct replacement for yokuslu but a great result with a decent performance

The difference in having quality crosses in to the box and someone  who knows where to stand.
Townsend would have put the first cross over the bar and BTA would not have scored all three goals.

A great start, three more additions please. Competition for RB, centre mid and CF. However, I suspect we will get another winger..

Everyone else has already said it, but that was a joy to watch. Never know what to expect first game of the season, particularly after our pre season outings, but CC had got them looking really good. Cannot wait for next week now

Rare for me not to tune in in some way but my wife's birthday Saturday; Albion won for her day though and the Red Arrows flew over our house.

I know how to treat her right.

Seriously, delighted... so hoping we are at the start of some good (baby) steps forward!!

Great performance. A good win away from home, Josh Maja getting a hattrick

Plenty of optimism to start the season
