I’ve got reservations like others, but he’s not the worst candidate, has done good jobs most place bar Celtic, and seems to have a strong relationship with the club.

It’s probably more important how much we can back any new manager. He needs players and it’s probably little use him getting a tune out of diangana or Swift in the long term since I expect both to be moving on at the end of the season if not sooner.

If it came from one and was upfront then we take it
I think he is great for us but everything has a price and I’d say 15 is not turn down able unless offered in 5 yearly payments

Not that I think it will happen, but you wouldnt get a bidding war in that situation. Pretty sure Maja would dictate which one he wanted to go to.

I’d not be too upset to see Diangana, Swift and Wallace all leave this month for free to be honest. If we could help our cash flow / ffp situation further by getting any sort of transfer fee then even better.

I find it amazing how hypercritical posters are regarding our potential coaches. Wicky has a record of winning cups and titles with two of the bigger clubs in Switzerland which in coaching terms is a little bit "so what". Whereas he didn't do anything much at Chicago Fire a club which is perpetually mediocre and that is a "failure" although he got them within a point of the play-offs which might be as good as anyone has done with Chicago Barely Smouldering.

Getting something out of a squad without a talent advantage it might be argued is better and more relevant to the circumstances he will find at the Hawthorns.

1 point from the play offs in the MLS is rightly dismissed in my opinion because of the way the MLS is structured and it lacks context. 1 point from the play offs was actually 11th in a 15th team league with 23 points. The season before they finished 8th with 42 points but that seems to be before an increase in the league size and when 7th was required for the play offs.

Edit - It was the Covid year.  I don't know how you factor that in to everything (maybe they'd have improved, maybe not)  but it does seem to be why 11th put them near the play offs as it seems the structure was changed. The two years after it was top 7 for play offs.

Whilst we will never know, I do think timing is a valid point and the timing has arguably given them the ability to take a little longer.

It was always unlikely someone would be in  with enough time to make any real impact before Swansea, and if you write off the FA cup which I think they will have, that gives you a bit of space.

I expect someone before the end of this week. Any longer and I think you can start to question the time its taking

Leeds also have an interest,which might then free off Bamford…not saying he’s perfect but maybe that could work for us
But we really need a decent number 10 in IMO

I can’t seem him coming here but I do think he will be loaned rather than sold.

It would be silly of Villa to sell now for a x million when a strong 6 month spell in the championship multiples his value dramatically.

I think we have to bring him back too.  Stoke might recall Nathan Lowe, and that may see him get more time on the bench but he’s clearly not going to get much opportunity from a manager who barely puts him in a match day squad.

Good example there - Grant clear with loads of time, but there's 1 player to aim at. Grant plays it across the box so it looks dangerous but there's no-one there.  Is that a better cross than aiming for Maja and a defender getting a toe on it?

No, hit it towards Maja and anything can happen. Firing across to nobody is pointless, even if we did pick up the loose ball

Was Brunt loan manager? Think I’ve seen that mentioned. If so you’d have thought he would have seen more of Taylor than almost anyone. Particularly with him being the ‘youngster’ who is realistically closest to the first team.

He has to get played now we’ve called him back. If he sits and barely gets any minutes between now and the end of the season I could completely understand him asking for a transfer in the summer for the sake of his own career

I wasn't against Luke Williams at first but the way he has acted since the links started means i would stay well clear. The way he is treating Swansea currently when he is asked about the job is disrespectful in my opinion and apparently he did the same whilst at Notts County.

I'd warmed to him initially after some of what i had read, but I agree having now seen his comments from yesterday and those from last week.  I don't think he has handled this well at all.

I understand him perhaps not wanting to lie or mislead the Swansea fans if he is interested, and perhaps he thinks a non committal response is is disingenuous or leads to speculation anyway, but to engage with the press in the way he has is just bizarre.

Three welcome points. We've played better than this though. I didn't think we were great first half despite the scoreline. We took our chances. Diakite played well and its good to know we now have another option in midfield. I'd much rather have him than Racic.

Second half we didn't get going perhaps a subconscious foot was taken off a pedal then we started seeing the game out. Its understandable this time of the year with games coming thick and fast and another game coming up Saturday lunch time.

I agree, three moments of awful defending from Preston but we took the chances presented.

What exactly has there been in his time at the club for him to merit a new contract ? I realise if we don’t sell we will be seeing no return financially on a significant fee that we originally paid , but giving him a new contract could surely not be justified .

He scored 7 in 1200 minutes in 22/23 when he came back, just better than a goal every 180 minutes. It’s a big if, but if he can back and scored at something like that while staying fit for the last 20 games, it would create a choice. Even more so if he then started next season well.

It’s far more likely he breaks down, at least in spells,  again and struggles with fitness for the next 18 months, which makes the decision easy.

Thanks, in my head i imagined it to be 3-4 weeks from first going back on the grass.

Genuinely wouldn’t even dream of playing him before Oxford. I’m sure the same initial story said the reserves don’t play until around the 10th and suggested he could be seen there  but even that seems tight. We also know from experience how high risk he is for muscle injuries.

I really hope he can come back to some sort of decent level but I’d be amazed if he’s not on the treatment table for lengthy periods of whatever career he has left.

Bit of a conundrum at board level he does comes back strong, at the end of the season as he’s got 12months left. Do you give him a new contract or sell

Since the question is who would you prefer, I’ve gone for Potter.

I don’t see any chance of it though.

I’d be ok with Cooper, Heitinga, Williams  (what I’ve read about Williams has been encouraging) or moyes although I also think Moyes is completely unrealistic.  Not really sure on the rest noted, but I do think it will be one of the rest (or not currently listed) rather than one of the 3 I like and see some chance of

About a week ago CC said he would be taking some part in training with the team after Boxing Day. So I’d imagine he’s been back on grass for a few weeks. I’d still imagine he’ll be another few weeks at least though.

Coopers next job will be in the championship IMO, unless he goes abroad. After being sacked by a struggling Leicester after such a short spell, you dont get another premier league job without rebuilding.

He’s probably the ‘safest’ and easiest option to justify. Even if wasn’t the choice of some fans I think it be hard to not understand the appointment. The question is if he would come here. He will have plenty of options at this level and can bide his time for what he feels is the  right job.

Good point and a fair one IMO. We had our spell on top at the start of the second half but they had theirs in the latter stages of the half. Glad that we competed overall
