West Bromwich Albion FC / In the club's favour
« on: July 03, 2024, 09:52:10 AM »
We often see that a player has signed say a two year contract with another year in the club's favour.
What does that mean?Does the player have to sign at same terms is it conditional on appearances?what exactly does the term mean?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Players out of contract
« on: June 30, 2024, 05:58:50 AM »
After 30th of June players whose contracts have expired and not been renewed will no longer be Albion players.
Will they still train with the squad and of course they will not be paid.

West Bromwich Albion FC / The run in
« on: April 04, 2023, 09:14:09 PM »
If Blackburn keep in the top six they will deserve it bearing in mind their fixtures and this should raise our hopes of catching them.
They have to play a local derby against Preston and Norwich.Coventry.Burnley.Luton and Millwall.
I hope the last match of the season doesn't mean they and Millwall both make the top six as long as they draw.

West Bromwich Albion FC / How amateurish are we?

Sheffield United boss altered his team and tactics after learning Albions intentions on social media

We are short of money and can't off load players.
If we had waited till their contracts terminated rather than extend them 6 months early we could have made a decision at the correct time and let Livermore.Phillips,Furlong and Townsend
go getting them off the pay roll but now we have got them whether we like it or not.
According to the match commentary last night Millwall's record signing cost £1.7 Million pounds.
If correct this shows that if you run a club professionally you don't need pots of money and we in theory are a  much bigger club than Millwall.
One way of saving money is to bring your own young players into the first team but we seldom do this even if we do have promising players.

West Bromwich Albion FC / our contract dealings
« on: January 30, 2022, 05:10:07 PM »
are we professional?
Does any one agree with my views and I will say I am not questioning any persons integrity.
Johnstone is one of our most valuable assets who is a current international and may even improve and we should do our best to keep him but we do have an adequate replacement and 2 promising young keepers who may become very good players.
Philips and Livermore;why on earth extend their contracts before they run out as they have little sell on value and if they get injured or decide not to put the effort in we have got to pay them unnecessarily
Townsend; He is ok as a player but I don't really want to seem him as a first teamer in our side for the next 3 years unless he improves

West Bromwich Albion FC / our goal scoring problem
« on: January 20, 2022, 07:57:43 AM »
Our strikers are probably not top drawer but the problem of not scoring goals is not entirely their fault.
The team as a whole do not create many gilt edged chances but most of the team had not scored any goal.
Furlong,Townsend,Molumby,Clarke,Reach,Livermore,Taylor-Hickman amongst others have not scored a goal between them and that is a disgrace.Even O'Shea who is not a striker and has hardly played any games has scored two.
If any money is available in this transfer window we should try to sign a goalscoring midfielder.
The goalscoring load must be shared by the whole squad.

West Bromwich Albion FC / in an emergency

Could you follow instructions given over the  loudspeaker system?
It could save your life but I and many others do not find the system clear and we miss out on comments about players and the club.
Could someone with influence make an official complaint if they agree?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Time wasting
« on: September 15, 2021, 07:06:43 AM »
For the last two matches I have had to watch the opposing keeper dawdle to the corner flag and back to fetch the ball .Time is important in home matches which usually favour the home team.
Why haven't we got ball boys?
It is not likely to be due to Covid because there were two ball boys in front of the East stand.
the above has occurred many times and is not good for the team or the home fans so I hope it is soon sorted.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Have we been unlucky?
« on: February 03, 2021, 03:48:47 PM »
Leading Everton hit post
Palace Gallagher pushed in back no penalty
Spurs nil nil we hit post
Man u VAR over rules our penalty and we hit the bar, they have penalty incorrectly awarded because of prior foul then VAR over rule Johnstones save
Newcastle double substitution one centres to other, winner off bar
Fulham double substitution, one centres to other for equaliser
Sheffield United we play on Tuesday. If played on Wednesday our new signings available
Even Villa should their keeper have been sent off for handling outside area as Arsenal's was against Wolves

West Bromwich Albion FC / Callum Morton
« on: July 24, 2020, 06:05:15 AM »
Probably the best striker we have had come through the ranks is Steve Bull who we sold for a pittance and replaced him with Don Goodman.
We then spent 20 years in the wilderness until GM developed a strike force  of Taylor,Hughes and Roberts.
We now have a very promising youngster Callum Morton and we must capitalise on this and put him straight into the first team squad.
If he does not make first team level by Christmas he should be loaned out to a championship club in the January window.
Mason greenwood of Man U is only 18 and has already scored about 16 Premiership goals I believe.
Callum is two years older lets try him.If Greenwood was at the Albion he wouldn't be in our team he would be out on loan if many fans had their way.

West Bromwich Albion FC / our strike force
« on: June 29, 2020, 06:42:41 AM »
I don't think Kanu is good enough but you have to be fair to him.
He always tries and early in the season he was coming on as sub when the game is stretched and the opposition tiring and he did an acceptable job.But then he had support from Phillips and Diagana among others.
Now he is expected to overcome the opposition on his own.
There is basically no support from overlapping fullbacks,Sawyers,Livermore,Phillips or Robinson,
Sawyers has 1 aaaist and 1 goal,Phillips seems totally unfit,Livermore has lost his early season verve and Robinson seems light weight so Grosicki must be given a start and most of the above mentioned players should be dropped.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Is our transfer philosophy correct?
« on: August 06, 2018, 01:10:40 AM »
No player is worth a fixed price only what someone will pay for him.
Apparently we have turned down an offer of 16M for J Rod because similar players have fetched 20M
I believe he is aged about 30  is OK but not a great player and had a lot of criticism on this web site last season.
Surely we should accept the offer if we can improve the squad by investing the 16M on other player/s because we might not receive an offer of20M or even an improved offer at all and if we do the delay might mean the player/s worth 16M have joined other clubs.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Don't our managers think?
« on: March 04, 2018, 06:02:36 AM »
Pulis
Speaking from memory didn't we win against Bournemouth without Rondon? If so why did he virtually always pick him?
Pardew
He left out Rondon at Liverpool and at one of the hardest venues we won playing superb football so why does he keep playing him?
Surely if things aren't working out of desperation you would try something different and give Field and Burke a starting place in the team.
Would Sane get a game with us or would he be considered too young?
My big worry is if we appoint a new manager he won't have time to learn about the limitations of Rondon ,he will be given a new contract and we will be lumbered with him for years.

West Bromwich Albion FC / We need a captain
« on: February 26, 2018, 06:36:41 AM »
I did not particularly rate Fletcher as a player but he was an excellent captain as was McInnes when he was at the club.
I don't think Evans has that ability and we need a leader on the pitch.
Can anyone think of such a person in our squad?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Free Kicks
« on: February 03, 2018, 09:06:44 PM »
In the last month or so we have conceded goals to freekicks and regularly see such goals on tv from de Bruyne Courtinho and many less well known players. They can be very productive as can corners be.
I am fed up of Brunt taking all our freekicks with the commentators saying he has a wand of a left foot.
When is he going to score from one bearing the number he has taken over the years.
Most of us will remember his superb strike against Everton but that was quite a few years ago and he has seldom scored one since
In the short term let someone else take them and in the summer try to sign a freekick expert as the will reward us with points over a season..

West Bromwich Albion FC / When will the jinx end?
« on: December 27, 2017, 06:21:12 AM »
Gareth Barry has been on the pitch in about 40 matches involving the Albion and the Albion have never won.
He played about 18 matches for Villa,Man City and Everton and was never on the losing side and has played about the same number for the Albion and has not been on the winning side.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Holding onto a lead
« on: October 19, 2016, 06:18:02 AM »
We have been leading with little time to go against Sunderland and Spurs and have put Gardner on
presumably to hold on.
Would it not be better to put Leko on because as the opposition press forward they will leave space at the back he can exploit and he is more than capable of keeping possession?
What do you think?

West Bromwich Albion FC / antonio
« on: August 08, 2015, 05:57:30 AM »
I watched Brighton v Forest on TV last night and the commentators were full of praise for him and I think they said he got a lot of goals last season.
Well on the evidence of last night he was tall, fast, powerful, industrious and linked up well with his team mates and looked a quality player.
We apparently offered £3M which in today's market is very low.I think we should be prepared to go up to say £6M as his wage demands will probably be less than those of Phillips who is on QPR's rather high wage structure.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Don't blame the defence
« on: March 10, 2014, 08:37:47 AM »
In my view we should not blame the defence for our present woes.In fact I think they are all pulling their weight despite other fans views to the contrary.
The real problem is the players up front who pose little threat and thus enable the opposition to push up and put extra pressure on the defence.
Once we have conceded the first goal we have to chase the game which heaps even more pressure on the defence.
To help the defence we need pace up front which will test the opposition.

21
Basically Foster the back four and Yacob and Mulumbu are OK although there are profound weaknesses but the real problem is square pegs in round holes in front of them.
During the early part of the season we kept playing Long as the one up front when he was clearly incapable of playing that role.
Now we are playing Anechebe who is capable but without the necessary support. He is clearly not going to get lots of goals but can hold the ball and lay it off.
What is the point of him laying it off to Gera and Morrison who don't look like scoring?
He made a superb run from the half way line
but had two defenders marking him so one tackled him and the other cleared up.
In my view we must try Vydra with Anechebe and if that doen't work then try Berahino or Thievy with him.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Duties of a midfield player
« on: March 03, 2014, 11:49:24 AM »
Basically such a player should be a ball winner,a goal scorer or a play maker with several assists.
Having said this I can not see how Morrison justifies a start because I can not see that he does any of these things. Thus he takes up a space in the team of a person who could at least do one of these things better.

23
West Bromwich Albion FC / Foster and penalties
« on: February 09, 2014, 08:59:22 AM »
Does Foster do any checking on which side a likely opposition penalty taker will probably put the ball?
At the moment he seems as likely to save a penalty as Scott Carson. He has gone the wrong way against
Chelsea Villa and Palace and even I knew where Hazard normally puts his penalties.

West Bromwich Albion FC / An easy fix
« on: January 14, 2014, 06:46:41 AM »
It is not always easy to see what is wrong when a team is playing badly but Pepe is so lucky he could become an instant star by acting as follows as this guarantees an almost certain improvement.
Buy a new l.back (This could be financed by the sale of Long)
Don't play Mulumbu unless Yacob is in the team
Rest Morrison as he is just a shadow and if he starts you might as well start with ten men
Remove captaincy from Brunt, preferably play him wide left if at all and don't let him take any free kicks when a shot at goal is the preferred option
Start with Vydra and Berahino
He would have many options on the bench.
I believe most fans would agree with the above as this all seems so obvious and Pepe will be considered a genious if he does this.

West Bromwich Albion FC / free kick goals
« on: December 22, 2013, 10:24:33 PM »
only W Ham and us are the only two teams in the Premier who have not scored from a freekick this season.
Just this weekend without checking I can recall such goals by Toure and Barclay the latter being worth two points.
We can not forgo this source of goals.
Suggestions please.
