Never pretty to get that win after a bad run, onwards and upwards.

I see Everton as a problem club they think they are a bigger club than they are which brings its own problems they are just a run of the mill Premier team If I was in  CC shoes they would not be a club I would be looking at.

Historically we don't have many magagers poached.  I think Roy Hodgson was the last, apart from that I can only think of Ardiles and big Ron.  Let's hope it stays that way.
Ronnie Allen took over the Saudi National team I can't remember if his contract was up or he was poached.

The release clause will be going down as we approach the end of his contract. Don’t know about specific numbers.
I didn't know it worked like that probably explains the reporting, it's time for a new contract.

It did feel scrappy, as Johnny says. Possibly one of those games where we rode our luck because we are currently on form. Second half our class showed, as I expected and that means were now top of the table and going into 3 home games in 4 in a very strong positoon, without yet looking at full flow.

Interesting to note that 5 games into the season and a few weeks after the transfer window closed, of Corberan's first 14 players used today, only 2 summer signings were included. The new(ish) 5 sub rule gives others a chance, but thats 7 summer signings today who didnt get a single minute on the pitch. It could be Corberan's attention driven nature that means he wants to take time getting them up to speed, but even with a long season I do have some doubts around how easy it will be for some of them to get many minutes.

A problem to assess later in the year though. Were top of the league and things are rosey right now.
It's the old adage you don't change a winning team what those signings have done is provide serious competition for those out on the pitch who know they have to perform    to keep the shirt.

Great performance and Racic once he gets a chance to start will take some shifting top midfielder

You have nicely summed up Lionheart to see the situation from both sides of the fence.

In fairness KYA, that's death and taxes.

And as much as I support all 3 Rugby code teams, England will line up at the Aviva next February, without a fair number of patriotic players (due to them choosing French cash over England caps), where they will likely get the usual Dublin going over.

I felt a lot more patriotic watching the footballers tonight. It was the perfect script, great football first half, exactly as Carsley's under 21 side had promised. The usual Irish nationalist antics (acceptable because of the craic or something), booing Rice and Grealish, only for both to score. Grealish celebration in front of the fans will go down as one of my favourite England goals. Brilliant.
Grealish is a chav so I'm not surprised at his actions.

I won't quote Baggies full post but descendant wise etc I'm half English, half Slavic but I was born in England and there's no way in the world I'd play for anyone else other than England if I was good enough and had multiple options, I'd still choose England only

Why the Irish supporters think Rice and Grealish owe them anything as Englishmen baffles me.
You raise some good points Gaz you say you would only have picked England, wells that's the issue with the Irish both players chose Ireland and then decided England was a better option.
With dual nationality, you have a decision to make when choosing a country to represent it's not something you do on a whim.

Article in the telegraph is by Jason Burt, laying into the new manager already. What we really need is a backlash to the article like the one Gary Linekar received when he was mildly critical of England's group game Euros performance. Sadly, that will be difficult, because the Linekar backlash was driven by....Jason Burt. It's a shame Jason Burt from a few months ago isnt around to tell today's Jason Burt everything he told Gary Linekar.

Almost as if Burt's pushing a very Telegraph like agenda one might think.
I've read the article and it makes a lot of sense to me.

England footballers are pretty apathetic about singing the National Anthem one of the reasons I now prefer England's Rugby Union team compared to the football they show passion which is important in sport and why I think Carsley is setting a bad example.

There are still many unimaginative club owners who persist with recruiting merry-go-round managers.
They had Mick Mcarthy for 14 games in 2023 they won 2 games!

Baggie fans one bad result and the doom and gloom merchants will be loud and proud!.
I go along with the optimism
Goalkeeper Same
Defence 4 with Heggem for 2 spots decent competition
Furlong playing well but again has competition in Holgate.
Left back Heggem upgrade on Connors with Styles ,Frabotta as competition quality we have yet to find out but options we didn't have last season.
Midfield Again greater competition and I have high hopes for Racic.
Forwards possible one weak point we're ok as long as Maja stays  fit who is different class to BTA.
Wingers Plenty of them and some real quality
All in all a far better squad than last season.

I wish BTA all the best, limited ability but always tried his best and we made a tidy sum on him which helped us in the window.

Without a doubt had we had him all last season our results would  have improved still that's in the past hopefully he can avoid getting assaulted this season.

Everton were winning 2-0 in the 86h minute at home but lost 3-2
They will be gutted they will struggle again this season and to throw away 3pts will really hurt.

I think the new owners deserve some credit they refused to sell Fellows on the cheap which is a good sign long term and seem to be sorting the club out to function more professionally. We had a very good window   considering the financial restrictions.
