Simple positive pass is the point....what do you do if there isn't one which was usually the case with Liverpool's work rate ? often yesterday the only passing option was to go back.
There were times when there was a simple, positive option though, yet we engineered a more difficult negative one.
Not saying we should never go back, but we seem to instinctively look back towards our own goal.
Fletcher was facing their goal, and virtually kicked the ball over his own head, back towards Foster. It would have been easier to hoof it the other way.
It seems to me that we have an ethos of, if in doubt play safe, which is fine but playing back towards your own goal is not always the safest option. In fact it can often be the exact opposite.
