Is he now incapable of making his own decisions??

+ when has it always been down to the player ??

What's to say it wasn't palace who didn't want to send him back??

Bilic made comments earlier that he wanted him back on loan but Fergusons representatives refused request.

To add to that it was widely reported that Palace were happy for him to come back to us for rest of the season but both Ferguson and his agent rejected that option.

https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/west-bromwich-albion/2020/01/31/slaven-bilc-gives-west-brom-transfer-update/

Bottom of the article.

And Bilic admitted he was surprised to hear about the issue after the defender completed 90 minute at Cardiff on Tuesday.

"I can only tell you that Nathan was fully fit and available for the game against Cardiff," he said.

"He was very close to playing against Stoke but we didn’t want to risk him.

"He has that small issue with his knee but for Cardiff he was fit. I had a couple of talks with him, in Cardiff, but it was not about if he was physically fit.

"It was more about if he was mentally there. So when they (Palace) decided to – on Wednesday or yesterday – tell us there was an issue there with the medical check I was very surprised.

"That is what I know, to be fair. There is an issue there. But as I said, he finished the game.

"Okay, you don’t talk to every player about how they feel after the game. But he finished the game in a normal way. That is why I am surprised."

Bilic revealed Albion held talks with Palace about Ferguson remaining on loan at The Hawthorns for the rest of the season.

But it is understood Ferguson's camp were against the idea.

"We wanted to keep him," the Croatian added.

"And I am going to finish with this because I want to talk about the players that are here and we have a big game tomorrow.

"I want to talk about the players that want to play for his club and the players that we brought in.

"We did our best. Since day one we did our best to keep him. We wanted to keep him.

"We wanted to do a deal with Palace that would see us keep him until the end of the season. We tried everything but that didn’t want that so finished."

I think the sentence where Bilic says he only wanted to talk about playing wanting to play for the club is evidence enough!

I doubt we will see him in the Albion first team again, surprised if he does but think it will include signing a new contract here. That’s not going to happen though either.

Feels like he has been badly advised here.

His breakthrough season and not even 25 games under his belt and this has happened.

I feel for him due to his age but it all feels very acrimonious and I’m not sure how or why it’s got to this situation.

I wish him well but I don’t want him near this club anymore personally

Unfortunately we owe him a certain duty of care as a contracted player

We do, but they said 'may need surgery', there is absolutely no point in playing him at any level within our club and unless some specialist advises surgery there is no need for any money to be spent on him, let him rot, he seems like a lost cause unless he changes his attitude and wants to repay the club that developed him.

People keep saying he was ‘badly advised’, but other than failing his medical he would have moved on to a premier league club after a half decent first half of a single season and made more money in a year than most of us male our whole lives.

Doesn’t sound as though he was badly advised to me. Sounds like his agent did exactly what he’s being paid for.

Reality is we’ve got him back now and he’ll just go in the summer instead. Whether he plays again or not is irrelevant and we’ve got plenty of cover now in the shape of Peltier who I’d say is more proven anyway.

Clearly says Ferguson's camp said no to a loan mate .

Joe Chapman (Evening Mail) tweeted and said it was declined by the advisers.

Ferguson was open to the idea.

He is 19. I have a 19 y.o. son and this sort of decision would have been torturing him. I think an agent would have more influence than a lot of what you think. His parents are in education and have little knowledge of football I guess. You would really on the agent.

I am disappointed they chose to move, but he is a young kid who is an Albion fan, having a chance to sort his family financially for life. I cannot believe people criticise him for the decision he made. Albion could have released him this year if it wasn't for Slav. You don't know but the injury the has had may have made his mind up for him.. makes him realise he is not untouchable.

The hysteria on social media is embarrassing. I think he does owe us, but I also recognise it is cut-throat. What other industry destroys the dreams of kids from 7-21 years old?

This whole debacle could work in our favor. The same knee issue will be known by his admirers and he will find it difficult to get a move in the summer even if he has surgery without playing games he would need to prove his fitness. It might just be the catalyst that pushes him into signing our deal that has been put on the table.
Otherwise he’s rotting in the reserves as you can tell by Slav’s comments that he is super drunk with the way he has conducted himself.

I feel bad for the lad, set for a big move and only to be let down by your body, something professionals will just take for granted. I haven't seen him throw his toys out of the pram, I'd say he applied himself at Cardiff the other night. Difficult for him now with the crowd.

Hopefully he reacts in a positive way and gets his head down to help his boyhood club get promoted and then we take it from there in the summer.

I hope someone pulls him to one side and tells him to think twice about these agents , not done him very well so far have they ? I believe Saido and Ravel Morrison also use/used the same agent so that tells you a lot .
Ferguson or his camp burned Bilic after getting his career going , a lot comes down to how Bilic wants top play it but those comments about " players who want to be here " don't look good for Nathan .
As you say he's young , quite possibly been swept up in all this with bad advice.

Why would you want to keep a player that clearly doesn’t want to be here. It’s a disaster this has happened as now he will run his contract down . Wouldn’t play him again , we have furlong and the new lad from Cardiff to cover the right back positions now

Personally, I think that the club will want to demonstrate magnanimity on this.
I would imagine the club can ask for a copy of the medical report from Palace & then send NF for a second opinion from our own medical staff, or an independent assessor.
If, as alleged, Palace were prepared to pay up to £11 million for NF, he does have a value, & it would be in both the club's & the player's interests to maximise that.
If it was easy, it wouldn't be Albion

I wanted him gone last night because in a business sense it looked like a good deal and I didn’t want us losing another good youngster for next to nothing. He is now in a bizarre situation where potential suitors may be put off because he is very young, has barely played yet failed a medical despite completing a 90 minute match. In the meantime who knows if he needs surgery but if he does then he will likely be unavailable for most of the rest of the season.

The contract either runs down or he signs our deal and gets on with it. In the meantime we could get promoted so a lot can change.

What I would say is despite the situation I don’t actually think he himself has behaved badly. It seems that the games he has missed have been genuine and if he was really at it would he really have chosen to play on Tuesday risking an injury before a big move? We will never really know and it could be a young kid being badly advised.

Either way my hope now is he signs and stays - that then means everyone needs to focus on the positive and it protects the value of our asset. I guess we just have to wait and see.

He has a value somewhere between £0.25 & £11 million, I'm pretty sure our legal team will find ways.

The only value that football agents add in a situation like this is they are an easy scapegoat. Player was badly advised they throw the agents under the bus kiss and make up with the club. The fans are happy and we never speak of this again.

I agree with you, but it also requires a change of attitude by the player, he is probably a bit in shock at the moment at the fragility of his position, there is never any guarantee with injuries, to position yourself with no contract would be risky at the moment, so perhaps a two year deal would be best for all parties.

Too much money at stake not to. Perhaps NF offered a short contract (say 2 yrs) we then get him back to full fitness and pay him until he either plays for us again or signs elsewhere. Perhaps an instant get out clause if we are offered a certain transfer fee?

Strange one this. He wasn’t going to cost too much up front so you’d be surprised if Palace abandoned the deal for a minor issue. Yet all reports suggest they wanted to renegotiate so it can’t have been that bad.

If it wasn’t for him supposedly being in tears and rejecting the chance to come back on loan, I’d think he had Ross Barkley’d us.

Let’s hope he doesn’t go abroad in the summer, this deal will help us in the tribunal a lot. He can’t be anywhere near the first team in training let alone matches now though, although I suspect he will be. Bilic will have an arm round him.
