I saw a statistic in Albion News that Swift has provided the third most assists in the division. Being able to spot and deliver a goal chance is a vital skill to have. Short cut back passes or through passes are more often than not the most effective passes rather than just whacking it high into the box and hope for the best. It shows an awareness of players and tight spaces in and around the box. I'm not saying Swift is the finished article, but we've had plenty of midfielders who haven't had a clue. When Livermore and Molumby were our midfield there was virtually nothing creative from that area. Molumby is better than Swift at chasing and closing opposition players down, but we need extra quality to open up defences with the final pass which Swift brings.
Aye this is true enough.
It's all very well saying more attacking players will have more goals involvements but Grady hasn't, Grant hasn't, BTA hasn't, Dike hasn't.
I'm not talking about a five yard pass 70 yards from goal, I'm talking significant involvement that isn't actually an assist.
Assist stats are rubbish anyway. A player "A" can run 70 yards, beating four players (not in an Albion shirt obviously
), pass the ball to player "B" who then taps the ball five yards sideways infront of an open goal to player "C" and player "B" gets the assist. It doesn't tell half the story.
