He is not beyond criticsm.

He is at the moment, we are top. Unless losing a competitive game mandates criticism rather than taking it on the chin, which would set sets the bar for criticism at anything below 46 wins.

Picked the wrong team, simple as. No need to make all the changes, to not play Mowatt and play Racic and Diakate who havent ever played together was crazy.

An odd off day I would suggest.

Perhaps over confident and saw the game as a run out and test run for newbies to assess potential. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, hopefully lesson learnt.
On the other hand they have to be tested sometime, but the selection looked strange to an uninformed outsider.
I think he knows he got it wrong, but at the moment he gets it right much more often than not, moving on.

1. Pretty well all posters said Racic and Diakite played really well against Plymouth.
2. Mowatt and Molumby were both carrying injuries.
3. We have 2 games this week.
4. Carlos sees players every day in training.

I therefore don't think there is any justification in criticising Carlos's team selecdtion against Wednesday.
Yes we lost the midfield in the first half, but Bartley, Heggem and Furlong were well below par too, and Swift wasn't pulling up any trees.  Even so both goals could well be described as flukes, and had we reached half-time goalless or only one goal down we probably would not have lost the game.

As for Tuesday's game the selection will depend on fitnes as well as Saturday's performance.  My main concern is that it is starting to look as though opposing teams who press energetically are still our weak spot - and other coaches will have noted this.

Picked the wrong side last 2 games. Hopefully Mowatt and Molumby start together next game.

You have to remember he gets the news on injuries and recovery. We do not. Molumby has been injured. But for that he would never have missed a game.

It’s not only picking the wrong side, it was the inability to change it up. An absolute stroll for Boro tonight, which is a worrying sign.

Need a mix now of what initially worked (Mowatt and Molumby) and our actual best 11 players. For me, that should see Swift and Grant dropped and Fellows restored. Wallace looks shot.

Don’t mind the back 4 but at some point Holgate needs a chance.

2 poor selections the last 2 games and we get zero points as expected.

CC really needs to get back on it.

Hoping he's not the 'backs to the wall team' only type of manager.

When he came here and kept things simple ,when Bruce had nearly killed everything, he seemed to have a razor sharp focus and didn't get everything right, which is totally fine,  but importantly, he spotted it quickly and corrected it. He was brilliant for me.

I seem to recall someone saying when the transfer window closed that CC fared much more badly when he had a lot more options open to him  once our players returned from injury and he signed his new deal.  Fingers crossed that's not going to be the case going forward and he accepts what he is selecting isnt working. I wonder if hes got a big dose of analysis paralysis?

Looking back he did do this last season at the start of the season when he wanted to persist with a formation that wasn't happening and eventually binned it off but it took about 4 poor games for him to admit it to himself.

Back 3
Ajayi holgate heggem

5 across midfield
Furlong Molumby mowatt diakite fellows

Then I’d have racic/ swift just off maja

I do wonder If he has too many options now , seems to be intent on Racic playing which has unsettled the midfield a bit in my view .

You have a good understanding of tactics - in the last two games, what’s gone wrong in your eyes?

Said it many times, we seem to be better when he doesn’t have to make decisions.

CC does not do well when presented with options so far in my opinion.

He's clearly a thinker and thinkers tend to overthink and when someone who is an overthinker is presented with too many possible options and outcomes you get the worst of all worlds in my experience. A total mess.

There's no flow or balance in the side , Racic is struggling .
Id go back to basics in Mowatt and Molumby , despite struggling Tonight I'd put MJ in for Grant too .

Too loyal to grant (who's been greatly approved but shouldn't be starting) Ajayi again I thought was poor. Palmer saved his blushes a few times. Heggem isn't a left back we have styles or frambotta he should try one of them.

No point having Cole on bench if he isn't going to try him. Dobbin has shown me nothing thus far.

Really poor today he was tactically out thought mainly by the other manager doing the simple things we are trying to be too clever. However we are going at 2 points a game if we maintain that across the season then he will have done a very good job

Don’t think there was any tactical masterclass tonight, just one team that was better in the third that mattered.

I think there’s a case for questioning the selection over tactics and and perhaps the summer window wasn’t as good as some thought since none of  Diakite, Racic, Dobbin, Cole, Frabotta, Holgate, Styles and Mcnair have been able to have much of an impact yet  and we are basically 20% in.

MJ was dreadful, if I remember correctly also lost the ball before the goal....

All I can think of tonight to explain our poor performance is that some players are carrying injuries. This early in the season it can't be fitness surely.

CC is much closer to the squad than us obviously so he has more information given to him about how certain players are travelling. Who knows, Molumby may still be not 100%, Fellows could have been feeling a bit off colour so CC decides to start him from the bench.

It looks like Boro came ready to play though so sometimes you have to put it down to the other team wanting it more.  As I said in my ohter comment in the After Match Debate, CC is not a dill so he must have some other information we are not privvy to.

Let's hope we can all regroup before playing Milwall on Saturday.  We desperately need the 3 points there to regain confidence and momentum.

He was poor but does give us balance , Grant is a backwards step and I'm surprised Carlos has carried on with him so far.

Last night was a seriously flat performance - Middlesbrough danced around us last night.

I am still not sure why he deemed Wallace as a better option to Fellows.  If that is the only change he thought we required from Saturday then that is disappointing.

There seems to be some kind of " agreement" that Wallace has to have minutes , club captain , leader of men, nice guy,etc etc. He has not performed to the benefit, of the team in any game this season. If Corberan gives him any minutes against Millwall he will be making a big mistake, since Jed seems to have no appetite to play against them. Maybe thats why he got extra minutes last night  ;)

Heggem is showing at LB now, time to play an actual LB and move him in the middle. Also wtf happened with McNair? Surely he's better option than the two chuckle brothers we have at CB?

We cannot go the season with Barts and Semi as a CB paring...

He was poor but does give us balance , Grant is a backwards step and I'm surprised Carlos has carried on with him so far.
Agreed. MJ is lacking match sharpness that is what last night came down too I think.
