Lots of reports CC release clause is £2Million Anyone know if this is correct I thought it was £4Million?

I read 4m somewhere too but no idea which is factually correct

The release clause will be going down as we approach the end of his contract. Don’t know about specific numbers.
Whenever things look bad, remember the Port Vale, Grimsby and Walsall days... not so bad now, eh?!

I didn't know it worked like that probably explains the reporting, it's time for a new contract.

Lets enjoy CC while we can. He is set for far bigger things. hope he only leaves after we get promotion. Cant imagine how we will replace him but Patels are professional enough to have some kind of contingency plan

I don't, I hope he has at least 1 season with us in the Premier league. I realise I may have taken that more literally than you meant.

I agree that the owners etc will have a plan for when he does leave. Nestor mentioned that we are identifying a playing style which means getting the right players in but I would also expect that they have a list of managers too.

Way back when Di Matteo was manager there was a great article in the programme by Dan Ashworth saying they were always thinking a couple of managers ahead, trying to identify managers who could work with the playing squad as obviously wholesale change of the playing squad is not easy.

I do wonder if the additions to the coaching team have been made with one eye on us losing Carlos at some point - look at the average 'lifespan' of managers at this level and it's not that long - they either do really well and get poached by bigger clubs, or get fired if things aren't going as well as required.

the coaching staff is all Carlos decisions now for the first team, the Hefele replacement was someone who Carlos had worked with previously.

if Carlos were to leave (god forbid) for whatever reason it would be Beale and the U21 team that would step in

I just hope he is enjoying the job as much as he appears to be. Would be a massive loss as he is by a distance the most valuable employee that we have.

I think part of the Ashworth plan was that we developed and promoted coaches from within with a clear understanding of the way the club played which is why we didn't appoint whole new coaching teams when a Head Coach moved on. However as with many of Ashworth's ideas they were pretty much dumped in the Pulis era. Recent appointments have had carte blanche to bring in the staff or their choice.

We do need a succession plan because it just seems inevitable that a too good to turn down offer will turn up sooner or latter. Given that we do seem to have adults in charge of the club I would hope they are planning ahead.

Some managers do stay and build, the rewards of the Premier League go to managers as well as players, let's hope he is one of those.

My view is that Carlos is the Albion, he is the bulwark, the leader, the total essence of our current position. He loves our club and we love him. Job Done.

Historically we don't have many magagers poached.  I think Roy Hodgson was the last, apart from that I can only think of Ardiles and big Ron.  Let's hope it stays that way.

Ronnie Allen took over the Saudi National team I can't remember if his contract was up or he was poached.

Yep, paid £2m compensation for him. In the same boat as Hodgson, Ardilles, Atkinson etc

Managers of major clubs don't have to tell the players much as basically they are all good. They have to deal with an intrusive media and be able to deal with players earning much more than themselves.
football is not all about money and looking in from the outside he seems to be employed by honest knowledgable persons so I can't see him leaving as he seems very happy at the club.
Obviously i don't know everything about him and perhaps he would be tempted by a massive Spanish club.

I think if you put yourself in a Championship managers shoes, managing a WBA type club, it doesnt really matter how much you are enjoying your time at said club, the lure of an Everton, a West Ham or even sadly a Wolves is difficult to turn down.

Even if Corberan gets us up, he will have a huge uphill battle to keep us there with our financial reality. A club like Everton or West Ham are established at the level, they have the big stadium, big fan base, greater resources and more potential to achieve a top 10 finish than an Albion.

We didn't get compensated for the other ones that you have mentioned, as far as I recall so it was different boat wasn't it?

That's why we need to get him signed up to a new and improved deal with a bigger release clause that is hopefully a deterrent to others, if we can afford to do it.

I have been told from a very reliable source that if we havent already, we will be looking to offer Carlos and his crew new contracts very very shortly.

I imagine assuming we have / do there will be negotiations for a bit and hopefully he wants to sign.

I get the feeling all of the Media chatter about his release clause has more to do with his manager negotiating that Improved Contract with the club.

I think Carlos has seen enough in his coaching time to know the grass is not always greener, bigger clubs bring more pressure, players who won't listen, impatient owners and host of other evils he doesn't get at the Albion.
One day he will go on to bigger things, I hope that day is still a good way off, for the moment, just enjoy.
