Makes it easy to criticize with his less then rapid response/reaction to emerging situations. Needs resting for a few games.

Most of the time he has been playing deeper linking the defence and attack, he keeps us ticking  over and remains a key player. I get some of the frustration with him, I get that at times but he is also an easy scapegoat to highlight when we have lost a game.

Does he really need to play that deep though, we usually have Molumby\Mowatt for that?    Our problem is that we get it off the defence there's no-one central in a forward position to pass it to unless Maja drops deep.  So we have to keep going outwide.

What we need is Swift in the role where he links the midfield with the attack.  When he has an off game it sticks out that our options are limited.

In fairness to Swift I may have been a little harsh as it's ood point that BA makes actually as it's the point I made before regarding Swift dropping deep to get the ball.

He has to be played up there and not forced to come so deep to make it work.

I've always been a bit meh about Swift. When he's good he has a lot of positive impact for the team when he's not he might as well be at home as he brings nothing.

He played well against QPR, Leeds (I think) and Portsmouth but he was pretty anonymous in the other games we've played.

Last season he was good before his injury but offered next to nothing when he came back in November to May.

I certainly wouldn't be renewing his contract at the end of the season.

I think why CC has played him further back is that he's not in such crowded positions and thus has more time to make a decent pass or find Mowatt.  He's still got good control in most matches - not exactly Pirlo but then we're not in Serie A.   Question is will Racic or Diakite rise the task of taking on his role?

I think it’s time to drop on. I’m not as massively against him as some but he often seems to really lack conviction and tonight it was apparent in abundance.

I’d like to see Mowatt and Molumby with Racic in front.

I'm probably the biggest Swift critic on this forum but we missed him second half, he shows for the ball and when he's not there we get Bartley and Ajayi passing between them then lumping it for a goal kick.

He's an enigma, he's woeful but we do miss him when he's not there.

A really weird sentence that bizarrely I somewhat agree with. Would like to see Racic in his role with the support of the M&M axis!

Play him as a 10 or drop him. This coming back to collect ball off our CB's is not his game.

Especially when Mowatt is back there doing it too. We need MJ and Fellows there if we have these players dropping back as it leaves Maja a bit isolated at times.

The last few posters are all correct
He’s off it because he his clearly instructed to come deep
Racic is playing too deep and therefore in the way/ineffective

Yep seeing Mowatt and Swift in our half collecting ball off the CB's was maddening.

Agree with this tonight, Swift and Mowatt are playmaking so Racic needs to make runs beyond Maja.

It was classic Swift tonight, lacking conviction and always playing that extra pass. He's still playing better than people are giving him credit for though.

Swift was bloody awful again ! Constantly choosing the wrong option , very poor out of possession and I thought basically just passing the buck to others !

No look passes too,
I prefer to describe them as 'no look Hollywood passes' it's so infuriating, has one of them ever actually paid off? As said elsewhere extensively he was pretty anonymous last night

He seems to be making everything he does more complicated than it really needs to be.

If there was anyone that should have been dropped after Saturday then it was Swift.

I've been banging that particular drum for a couple of seasons now.
By my reckoning he has about 7 good games a season, he's played well in 3 so far so we've got another 4 to come!

His non-defending is a real issue, he just doesn't get there.

Basically he messed up 4 or 5 promising moves just after half time.I expected him to have been replaced by Diangana and I assume the latter was not fit or why was he not playing or on the bench/

Desperately needs dropping.

the game regularly passes him by and for long periods hes hardly ever involved. Cant allow that when hes playing that number 10 role which is key to what chances we create.

Summed up in the 2nd half when Wallace was free down the right and he went for a ridiculous switch to Grant...

He did put in a timely challenge late in the game.
