You're right mate. Some people go way over the top about him. As you say, he's nothing brilliant but he's nowhere near as bad as some make out. We've had far worse that haven't received half the criticism Reach gets.

Agreed.  Able to use right foot more than Townsend. Probably more skilled overall for a LWB but just as timid.

CC probably likes his versatility. But he needs to work very hard on the accuracy of his passing, shooting and crossing. He might have scored a screamer once against us, but he's been nowhere near repeating that.

And his first touch, and his pace.

Plenty of time to improve for the young lad though

Weird thing for me. I'll buy into CC's faith in him because Carlos does seem to have a very definite concept for building his team - and look what he has done with Matty (I notice we are all calling him Matty again).

Thing is I don't think we have had a coach with a proper game plan since Hodgson.

I really hope Carlos is right about Reach.

One of the worst signings I can remember.  He offers absolutely nothing, has done nothing of note, and has been given enough minutes to prove otherwise.

Agreed. A nothing player for me. Just a very expensive one.

I think that is overstating it; or "over-reaching". Reach used to be a very good player at this level when he was younger but his legs seem to have gone and injuries kicked in. Definitely a failure at B71 but not one of our worst signings. I think we got him on a free transfer. Hardly compares with wasting £10m on Brown Ideye and £4m or more on Kenneth Zohore.

Was he though?

He came through the Middlesbrough academy and was there for a number of years and ended up playing a similar number of games there as TGH did here. He then left cause he couldn't get into the team.

He had five years at Sheffield Wednesday, who got relegated from the championship in his final season. I'm not sure Wednesday fans thought a great deal of him.

IMO, his lack of ability was masked (externally) by him going through a purple patch of scoring wonder goals for Sheffield Wednesday. He actually never offered much else.

Two of my closest mates are Wednesday fans, he was well liked - scoring wonder goals is generally acknowledged as a sign of ability :)

Sadly, we have only seen one such strike, in a meaningless end of season game against Barnsley. Age has caught up with him; doesn't seem to have the legs. Although it wouldn't amaze me if Corberan managed some sort of rehabilitation as he has achieved with Phillips, he has the means to work wonders to get everything out of average players.

This bloke has got to be the worst player I’ve ever seen at us,the bloke has just stealed a living for the past 3 years here, can’t understand why Corberán even plays him as the surely we’ve got a youngster that offers more

I think the departure of Sarmiento has brought him time until the end of this season.

I have said this from the time he signed. He sums up exactly where we are. He is in my top 10 worst players we have ever had and I have been watching this team since 1974

If you feel the club thinks allowing Reach too fill the void left by samientos departure is ok, then they won't scrape into the play offs and they will get what they deserve for not attempting to bring in better quality than the abject Reach.

I just don’t see the rationale for the abuse that he gets.  He may be paid far too much, but that’s hardly his fault.  Not his fault that he got injured either.  He’s a utility player, filling gaps of which we plenty, and we can hardly let him go very easily on our current predicament.

He might just perform better if he wasn’t subject to such abuse from “fans”.  He doesn’t shirk and always give 100%.  Good enough for me, and CC obviously sees enough of him in training to feel justified in getting him to do a job.

Correct. We lost, so a few need to find a player to kick. Reach is an easy target. He did no worse or better than most of the rest of the team today in his relatively short time on the field.

Reach is, what reach has always been, a below average championship player and a colosus waste of money.

Reach isn’t great for sure. Neither is Molumby by the way, but he seems to avoid the same level of negativity on this forum.

Nah, but Reach has always been an easy target.
If CC backs him, I’ll back CC’s judgement. But the bully boys on here obviously know better

Not having any viable alternative doesn't mean CC backs him

Just like with NC, who he was more than happy to see leave for Israel, he plays them as that is all he has.

Exactly.
But no, Reach is constantly targeted.

REach is rubbish and Molumby isn't great but JM can sometimes change games with his effort, running and determination. JM is a bit like BTA in that regard. Application outweighs ability. Reach doesn't even have that about him.

A signing that epitomises the reign of Lai and his circus of clowns.

Not from me, have a look at the Alex Mowatt thread.

I actually don't think he has done anything in the last 2 games and infuriated me in the Norwich game  when he didn't get back to defend after only just coming on.

I hope he is sold, if we can get that rumoured £4m in the summer.
