So the answer to being seen as trigger happy is fire coaches quicker. Absolutely works for me.  ;D

It's Sky and it's Rob Dorsett who tweet first and verify latter. So massive pinch of salt required.

If Appleton has turned down the opportunity then that is a little worrying because there is a lot more salary on offer with us than at Lincoln and the answer is still no. Fair play to Appleton the Lincoln board have backed him with a 4 year contract so I guess he feels wanted. I wish him well.

Why persist with the wrong person? They appointed the wrong person in Big Dave. They knew they couldn't work with Bilic yet they persevered and ballsed up the season even more than i could have imagined and i have very low expectations of them all.

There are a bunch of questions and there seems to be a big overreaction to this news.
Did we ever actually offer Appleton the job?
Do we have someone else lined up so he’s getting his comments early?
Is Rob Dorsett reliable?

They will probably turn it down and stay in the youth team training setups.

Needs to be sorted quickly and the only way your now going to get a better grade manager is to now back him with a substantial budget to attract players.

We’re going to struggle to attract the quality of players needed if we end up with a someone 5th 6th 7th down the list!

What the hell is happening.  The manager fiasco has now gone past a joke.

I never wanted Appleton but to apparently been turned down by a league 1 manager puts us at an all time low.

On top of that we are getting rid of players for next to nothing. Harper £1 million to Ipswich, Edwards not given a new contract so goes for nothing. Talk of Pereira going for £15 million.

We are an absolute joke.

Well they have saved me £400 quid because there is no way I'm renewing my season ticket .

I support West Brom as strongly as I have over the last 50 years but I don't support this lot that are managing the club.  Me renewing my season ticket can be seen as I am supporting what they are doing.

With the calibre of manager that will get the job and the players we will have left, I fear strongly where we will end up !!!

Nobody from outside the club looks at it like that they see managers who have done a reasonable job and they see them fired on pretty much the first bump in the road. We can either give managers time or money giving them neither leaves us where we find ourselves today, if indeed Appleton has turned us down.

1. Probably not formally but when you make an approach to a manager already in a job you have to follow through because you really are leaving him high and dry with his current employers/fanbase if you don't.

2. Appleton has nothing to gain from associating himself with and then distancing himself from the job he has the best contract he is going get from Lincoln.

3. Not really Skysports operate on the principle of be first to break the news don't worry if it turns out to be inaccurate. In any event the alternative is another news story to fill up airtime "Appleton in dramatic about turn...."

I am all for giving managers time and money, fully support it IF the manager is decent and they get on with the higher-ups. They stuck with Moore too long, he was out of his depth from the start and Bilic needed to be sacked due to the dynamics between him and DOF etc. 2 sackings that too long to happen, not too quick. They also rewarded Pulis with a new contract when it was time to cut and run.

I would liked them to have made better choices but this is who they are sadly.

Too true. Seems to be par for the course with a lot of journalists. And a few politicians!

I can understand why managers would be reluctant to join the club. Bilic was given 2 years to get us promoted, did it in 1 year and was then sacked without being given the tools to compete in the premiership. We are now back in a similar position to when he took over two season ago, albeit without anyone in charge. So why would managers with job security and/or ambition be interested in taking over our role, given the way we treat them. Appleton has probably calculated correctly he is better off continuing to build up Lincoln.

Spot on. I've said before on here that this job is a poisoned chalice and no half-decent ambitious bloke is going to risk his future with us. I've also previously said we'll be back to playing in front of average gates of 14000 soon and struggling to even achieve half-way in the championship. We are now an absolute embarrassment and laughing stock. and don't start me on the Pereira £15 million rumours!  >:(

Dear WBAFC Board of Directors,

I wish to apply for the position of football manager to run the first team for a few weeks until the first losing run whereby you will obviously sack me.

I have absolutely no experience of football management, placing me in the category of a ‘left field appointment' which you occasionally like to pull out of thin air & inflict up us weary supporters, so this should work nicely with your current ‘don’t have a scooby doo’ approach to the managerial appointment & the club in general.
I have however seen 'Mike Bassett, England Manager’ several times, which I think more than qualifies me for the current vacant role at the Hawthornes.

I am currently in full time employment, but I don’t envisage this being a barrier to the successful appointment & subsequent sacking, as thanks to having little or no input into transfers & therefore the teams playing style which seem to be handled by Mr Dowling and the fact that our players seem about as fit as I am, I should be ok to manage the club on a part time basis. Overall a win - win situation as my appointment will not require any compensation payment to my current employers. Mr Lai, please take note.

I should be available to start almost immediately, but please note I have a haircut booked for 24/06/21, my son’s school play to attend on 06/07/21 & a weeks holiday in Wales booked from 07/08/21 to 14/08/21, so kindly factor those dates into your planning as to when you would intend to sack me.
Whilst player recruitment is clearly not something you want to confuse any manager with, if it helps, I would of course be more than happy to undertake the position in a  player/coach capacity. I have severe arthritis in my my left knee & doubt I can pass a ball more than 3 feet, so I would be a considerable upgrade to our current central midfielders of Livermore & Sawyers.

I trust you find this application of interest & I look forward to your favourable reply.
Best regards.
Manc Baggie.

Or we just got relegated from the prem and have the foundation for a decent team in the champ for the right manager to grab the club by the scruff of the neck (this is said with awareness of our hierarchy’s chance to scupper it).

Not a chance, hopefully neither have the required badges.

One has worked with the U23s apart from under Allardyce and he was nowhere to be seen on the bench during games and the other has only just started working with the kids
