Sad to hear of his passing. Another great player for Albion, plus Jeff Astle and chippy clarke, all died probably not being able to remember they played for our beloved club with such distinction.
Thinking about that can reduce this silly old git to tears.

Web site says John Talbut and I've seen it spelt that way before...?

Anyway, John Talbot was one of the first names I saw on a match programme, though I was too young to appreciate that classic era.

Indisputably a key player in a truly magnificent side; Rest Well, John.

He was at the heart of a really great defence (along with John Kaye, Dougie Fraser & Graham Williams) when I first started watching the Albion. Many a Saturday afternoon was spent by a young lad admiring their no nonsense "real men" football.

Thanks for the fabulous memories John, RIP.

Sad to hear another great header of the ball die with dementia.
I have one memory of Talbut I think it was against Burnley in around 1970. He was on  the touchline and the ball was passed to him but was sailing over his head. He leapt like Ozzie in goal and duly caught the ball above his head but forgot he was still in play and was penalised and booked for his trouble!

What a reliable centre half John was. My lasting memory of him was in 1968 at Fratton Park, 4th round FA Cup. John must have shouted some obscenity and a young policeman didn't like what he heard and strolled onto the pitch with play continuing, to have words with him. At that, the referee came running over and told him to get off the pitch - exit, one upstart pig!!

This brings back happy memories
To be honest I couldn’t remember Danny Campbell ( I was at the game that night at the Hawthorns - we were absolutely outstanding! - Bobby Hope totally dominant In midfield against  Bobby Moore, Martin Peters & Geoff Hurst, couple of months before the World Cup, we won 4-1 after losing 2-1 away in the first leg. Hope didn’t play at West Ham. Interestingly Campbell only played 8 games for us and 2 were the League Cup Final.
