Be nice of him to play in front of a crowd.

Last home game, it was 5,211and last away game was 2,300.

I'm sure his wallet will be ok though.

He looks very lively in the first 20 minutes and seeing a fair bit of the ball

I think we have really, really, really missed him this season
He wasn't the answer to everything that ails us but by god he could make interesting things happen in the blink of an eye, and he certainly helped to make Diangana tick along nicely

I was saying that at the game today mate. I think that even allowing for the abject performances of his teamates with his presence we would have been promoted.

Leicester, Leeds, Fulham, Southampton, Brentford - someone of that stature in the prem will snap him up, especially on a free!! Be good to see him back in this country and showing what he can do, unfortunately we can't afford him, those days are a distant memory, plus its better to not get back with an ex, it never works!  ;D

That is assuming he comes back to England

I don't think anyone could have turned down the offer he had, but now he is back in the real world he will need to be realistic about his wage demands and, unless he will play for us for charity, I cannot see him at B71 any time soon sadly, apart from when he turns out for one of our rivals.

Thanks Lai - look what you could have won..

If that were true there'd be plenty of better players than Pereira moving to Saudi Arabia. Premier league clubs aren't exactly paying pittances and he'd have been on a huge wage if he'd left us to another club. If he'd continued to star in the premier he would have been well into a 6 figure a week contract.

Still the club was very silly on this, we should have got at least 25m for him - the idea we had to sell him to the club offering the highest wages makes zero sense, otherwise teams like City and Chelsea would rarely pay high fees. Looking at the fees Benrahma and Buendia who were a similar age but without the premier league pedigree he'd shown, its absurd how cheaply he went. 17m wouldn't even buy you a top championship player.

In all honesty Dan I don't know why [not that I care]. It may be that they are only allowed a certain number of foreign players per club, which would explain a lot I guess. I looked at his club the other day and it was mainly Saudi players in it.

If I cannot sleep tonight I will research it  ;D

I researched it, and a club can only register 7 foreign players, and can only name up to 6 in a team......

Al Hilal has players from Nigeria, Argentina, Mali, Peru, South Korea and two from Brazil, including yours truly...all the rest are Saudis.

When Gourlay talks about paying over the odds for certain players, he should have added letting certain players be sold on the cheap. Pereira appearing to be the classic example.

There was a time also when we could have afforded his wages, and we did, but that time has sadly passed.

Forgive me if this is a silly question but if they’ve terminated his contract, where does that leave us with the remaining payments?

I’m sure I read we were being paid £4m per year over 4 years.

I am only guessing, but I assume our contract will be with the club and not the player, so they will be bound to honour the contract. Its a bit like buying a car on 5 years HP, if you sell it in year 3, you still have to settle the HP.

Having said that, I am sure we were stupid enough to put a clause in the contract to say the opposite, but its a good question.

As I understood it, the MP payments were servicing the Grant  'millstone' and whatever was left annually went to the club.

I believe it was 8.5m immediately and 8.5m 12 months later so we should be good.

Undisputed ability and an attitude to match. I think he will get his top flight move but I don't think there will be as many options as he would hope.

He's fell out with every club he's been at

Journalist who has reported it said he's not terminated but they are looking to sell him. Brazilian clubs want him home.

It's using Twitter translate so could be jumbled up

Maybe other top footballers want to play at a higher level, all Pereira cared about was his astronomically high wages.

Pereira had made it clear that he wanted to go and had no interest in playing for us anymore.
As for "premier league pedigree", he was good after Christmas but was very average for the first half of the season.

The transfer window had been open 2 months* before we sold Pereira with no bids coming in for him from anywhere else, maybe we could have waited to see if someone else would come in for him and hope that they would offer more than £17 but what if no one did? We'd have had a player on our books who'd said he wanted to leave and was considered "not committed" by the manager.

*This might have been for Premier league teams only, so it might only have been a month but still...no bids.

Pereira won't be coming to England as he does not have the required Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) points to play professionally on these shores.

I think his career is on a one way downward trajectory sadly.

Not helped by throwing his toys out the pram seemingly everywhere he goes.

Did really enjoy watching him here though and a shame we didn't have him for longer as he has so much talent.
