Bit strange that we seem to have a relationship with werder Bremen? Wonder if someone is coming to us from there and we've loaned this guy to help build their links in China?
I imagine we have good relations with many clubs... might be why Gnabry chose them after our failed loan?

Strange how it's not been in the papers for weeks and weeks. Anybody would think clubs keep transfer dealings behind closed doors  ;)

Already capped 9 times for China !!

West Bromwich Albion have completed the signing of Chinese international striker Zhang Yuning.

The 20-year-old forward, considered one of China's hottest young prospects, has signed a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee.
Capped nine times by China, Yuning will have to wait to make his Baggies bow having immediately joined Bundesliga side Werder Bremen on loan for two years owing to work permit issues.

Yuning's arrival from Eredivisie outfit Vitesse Arnhem furthers Albion's Chinese links in a deal described as a "development project" by the Club.

Richard Garlick, Albion's Director of Football Administration, flew to Germany this week to tie up the details of the three-club deal.

"Zhang will get the chance to further develop at Bremen, with whom we have an excellent relationship," Garlick said.

"He will be challenging for a place in a top European league and we will be monitoring his progress before reassessing his prospects at the end of the loan period.

— SV Werder Bremen (@werderbremen) 3 July 2017
"There is no doubt he has a lot of qualities which Bremen are well-positioned to grow and develop.

As a Canadian and new fan to football in general, I've been following West Brom the past 8 years.  The only professional football games I've been to are Werder Bremem games back when I was a kid and spent time in Germany.  The connection is sort of fun for me.  Now if West Brom could sign a Canadian I'd be set!

West Brom have been linked to Max Kruse.  I wonder if this loan means they will be making a play for him soon.

We did have a Canadian, Paul Peschisolido, can not believe that was 20 years ago! :o

Looks like a commercial deal, will boost our profile and hopefully sell shirts over there. Clever move signing the best Chinese player (in truth, the only one above league 1 quality) and their best prospect for the future for the only Chinese-owned PL club.

I think its pretty certain he'll be playing for Werder Bremen's second team and has been loaned out to circumvent the work permit rules and to boost their profile in China as well. But with it not coming out of our transfer budget its a win-win, he either gets released in 3 years having increased our presence in China, or we have a decent young prospect on our hands.

It's easy to have faith in yourself and have discipline when you're a winner, when you're number one. What you got to have is faith and discipline when you're not a winner.

Pulis signs a player with no Premier League experience then  :o ;D

Effectively what we did with Cyrille Regis and Laurie Cunningham. And that didn't work.

Hello BB.

As well as Peschisolido and Marcus Haber we had Glen Johnson too, signed by Alan Ashman in 1969.

What an uninspiring and pointless bit of news. He'll never play for us. 2 year loan deal...FFS!
Rodriguez is an exciting but also highly risky signing.
The Wilson signing is disappointing as he's no good.
Huddlestone, Afobe and whoever else is also uninspiring. It's going to be a painful boring season. I don't even buy into 'well at last he'll keep us up' because I think he's pushing his luck now.
And yes I know the Chinese signing was done without even consulting TP.

He was truly terrible but I do seem to remember him scoring a winner against the Vile so all is forgiven.

Fantastic move from a business point of view.

http://www.fcbusiness.co.uk/news/article/newsitem=4649/title=west+brom+gets+social+with+dongqiudi

The above is from last year. We were the first Premier League club to make an account on Dongqiudi which is China's main football site/app with 2 million visitors per day.

If you go on the website, the Zhang story has the most comments by far, at nearly 5000 (most other stories have about 100 comments each): https://www.dongqiudi.com/archive/372092.html

Here's some of the comments:

- "West Brom, Bremen overnight how many Chinese fans"

- "Zhang Yining joined the team are the top league in the middle of the team this is really good"

- "Suddenly remembered that the boss of the Chinese consortium who acquired West Brom seems to be my alumni, Dahuaong"

One also had a picture of an Albion scarf  ;D
Apparently he is China's best player right now though so I imagine it will genuinely make a mark on the Chinese fanbase.

Blimey I bet Pulis has thrown a wobbler at that price, I was thinking this would be 3 mill max not 9. There better be a bloody good transfer budget if we're willing to throw 9 million on this kid

€9 mill apparently  :o

As long as it's honestly not come from the kitty and it's down as an allowable cost in some other venture then so be it.

They've probably got around it by something like selling the naming rights of the club towards those towns for £9m, then using that £9m for this so it's all break even. Then in the future we may have a valuable asset on the books?
Whenever things look bad, remember the Port Vale, Grimsby and Walsall days... not so bad now, eh?!

Must be completely a commercially driven deal.
Doesn't look particularly good to be honest in the clip earlier in this thread and I assume they were his ' highlights'.

Only young and just may one day come good, but more likely the entire purpose is about exposure in China.

I seen someone had 9 million euros somewhere?? I find that very unlikely
I would have thought his footballing skills from those highlights would have been more like that of a player at well less than 1 million.
