The cost of losing our final game...
« on: May 15, 2011, 08:52:21 PM »
...in monetary terms is astounding.  Reportedly £800K per placing up the league - if we manage a win at St James and other results go our way we can finish an unbelievable 8th, with a prize-money of roughly 9.6 million.
Worst case scenario sees us finish 14th and picking up around 5.6 million.

Step aside Roy, JP's giving the teamtalk next Sunday!  :D

We can look forward to a few extra penalties next season if we can sign Andy Johnson.
Remember him coming on as a sub when we were winning 2-1 this season against Fulham and thinking
"Keep him out of the penalty box at all costs!" Kennwyn Jones is possibly an even better diver than AJ and he got Stoke a penalty against us

Or that's the stadium expansion more or less paid for... It's a huge amount of money.

Wow, imagine how incredible it would feel to look at the end of season table and see us sitting in 8th place :o.

Financially this game is bigger than the FA cup final  :o

I'd take a point to be honest and finish around 12th. 8th would be a dream but I'd also be slightly annoyed if we ended up 14th.

Sounds mad that I'm even saying that 14th is somehow an annoyance, but financially it will be huge if we can get as high as possible.

I was talking with my Bluenose Father in Law, a few weeks back how they shouldn't get carried away with winning the League Cup. He was convinced that Blues were safe and was on top of the world. How things can change in a shortspace of time. I personally couldn't give a rubbish about winning cups at this moment in time. Every season we finish comfortably in the Premiership will be like winning the Champions League for me as it gives such a massive boost and makes such a financial difference to our club, especially with how fiscally shrewd JP is running things. I wonder how many Blues supporters would give that cup back in exchange for Prem status if they get relegated next week? I know I would.

 ;D Brilliant

Newcastle are a funny side, I don't really know what to expect. Nothing will take the gleam of our season though, a win would be the cherry on the cake.

I agree. To me, if we can keep a "safe" place in the Premier League" in the years to come, I will be more than happy. If we also could win a cup or two on top of that, thats all I could ever ask for..... ;D

Yes we want to finish as high as we can and gain all the money that place gives us, But lets not get carried away we all would of taken 17th place at the start of the season so any place higher than thatt is a huge bonus.

Would Be fantastic to finish 8Th... Make us look back on a season and remember a truly high finish..
But even if we finish 14Th we have still has a great season.. i still think that finishing top half we will attract a completely diffrent kind off player.

Well, since it is almost unheard of for a second season team to finish with more points than the first season the more points we have the merrier  ;)

If we were to finish 8th expectation will go behind the roof next season. Something similar which has happened with Blues after their impressive campagin last season. You normally like to improve on your Premier League position year by year but I'd be still happy with 16th/17th next season. To beat 8th position will take an even better season than this year. Bring it on!

Obviously 8th would be fantastic and really could add to our 'pulling power' however i wouldnt mind seeing some of the youth players given a game and really start planning for next year
