West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Next Head Coach Thread

anyone got the full article?
Doesnt say much

West Bromwich Albion are in advanced talks with Raphaël Wicky as they edge closer to naming their new head coach.

Wicky, the former Young Boys and Basel manager, has emerged as West Brom’s preferred choice after impressing the Championship club in talks this week in London.

A former Switzerland international, Wicky is a free agent after leaving Young Boys in March last year despite leading them to the domestic Swiss double in the 2022-23 season.

Wicky, 47, is understood to have held detailed discussions with West Brom’s board in meetings this week and an appointment is thought to be close.

West Brom are seeking a new head coach after the departure of Carlos Corberán to Valencia was agreed on Christmas Eve.

With the club’s sporting director Andrew Nestor leading the recruitment process and relying heavily on data and analytics, Wicky would fit the profile for the Albion board.

Like Corberán, Wicky is renowned as a coach first and foremost who can work in a modern football club structure.

During his spell with Young Boys, he helped develop a number of players who were sold for a significant profit including Fabian Rieder (£12.5 million to Rennes) and Aurèle Amenda (£7.5 million to Eintracht Frankfurt).

Since Corberán’s surprise exit last month, West Brom have lost only one of their four matches under caretaker Chris Brunt and are currently sixth in the Championship table.

Corberán’s successor will be the first managerial appointment for Albion’s chairman Shilen Patel, who completed his takeover at the Hawthorns in February last year.

Wicky is thought to have moved ahead of Liverpool first-team coach John Heitinga and former Manchester United coach Rene Hake.

In a recent post on his X account, Patel wrote: “I can’t say enough about how the entire club has shown up during an intense and trying festive period.

“The professionalism, resilience, and endurance shown by our players, coaches, employees at all levels speaks to the love and respect that they have for @?WBA and our fans.”

West Brom return to action on Saturday with a trip to face Premier League club Bournemouth in the FA Cup. They do not return to Championship duty until the visit of Stoke City on Jan 18.

Do you by any chance have an address or post code for that place please? I usually park on what was the Michelin site but this sounds better. Thanks in advance.

Bought mine last Tuesday, it arrived on Thursday no problems at all.
Looking forward to this as I always do. Park up about a 25 minute walk from the ground near the A50..usually manage to avoid any long queues of traffic (now hoping I haven't jinxed anything!)
We always park on the soccer 5 a side place and go in there, decent pie and a pint, loads of screens with the footy on and only a 5 minute walk to the away end, mixture of home and away fans but never any sign of trouble and very family friendly too

After the uproar last season from some for ticket allocation for this match I am gobsmacked at how many tickets are still available, I would estimate only half sold at the moment....

Well I for one have neither downloaded the app nor indeed want to, but I have received 4 emails relating to first four games. Ticket office says I must have requested this ..............I day honest. Anyway the outcome is , next week I shall receive a booklet containing paper tickets for the whole season.
Now that takes me back to 1969 when i had my first ST standing on the Brummie. The good old days. I'm lovin it!
Strange, I have just emailed the ticket office with regards to using the app and they replied stating:

If supporters have renewed and have not moved seats or changed age categories, then they will use there stile cards.

I believe SmethDan has been told it is coming in from next season though......

Maybe but it also means one of the supposedly top rank of young coaches thinks CT will be able to step in should Davies get injured at say the end of September. Just wonder also if Ipswich are going to play with 3CBs and WBs which would probably suit CT and definitely Davies better
The same top rank manager who has just spent £20 million on Liam Delap??  :o

Yeah brilliant news that we now don't have a left back. Not good enough for Albion (your opinion) but good enough for Ipswich who are now in the premier league. That makes perfect sense NOT.
My opinion too, he was a shocking defender, the fact we got any money for him is a great deal!

Concerns Me too. 5 goals in 24 games this calendar year (after scoring 13 before Christmas). 3 of those goals were in the first 3 games of the new year.

So whilst we will see a lot of  ‘18 goals last season’ he really dropped off over the last 6 months.
But its still 18 goals last season (and 3 assists)!  ;D

TBF he is on a free and its allowed us to get 2.5m for BTA so it makes complete sense to me, particularly in the financial predicament we are in, we cant expect big name signings for a long time yet, this is the pond we are swimming in now

14
Off to Cov for £2.5m then according to The Perce

Already gave his speeches to the Turkish media:

Speaking to journalists as he landed back in Turkey, the midfielder said: "I am very happy right now. I am very happy to be part of this team again. I hope everything will go well and I will join the team.

“The coach and I knew each other, we had a few conversations on the phone. I hope everything will be as we want.”

“I missed the stadium and the atmosphere in Trabzon the most.

“We have a strong squad. I think this is a team that can achieve success in the league and in Europe if everything goes well. I hope I can contribute to that.”

Ahhhh OK thanks for clearing that up  ;)

Knowing next season is app only on the gate for home games means I may even say goodbye to my season ticket of over 25 years too. The times they are certainly a changing.
Is it? I could have swore I chose to add to current stile card, or am I imagining that? My 71 yr old uncle who comes with me would not be able to do that as he has a brick of a phone thats barely colour let alone has the ability to put apps on it!

Edit: I have just checked and it states delivery method - Season Ticket Card Renewal

Its a great thing, I am already out of the country for at least 4 games already, so if they do sell then thats my season ticket already around £60 cheaper next season, and as my ticket is at the back of the Smethwick around 6 seats away from the away section I guess it stands a higher chance of selling, than other less popular areas of the ground?!

Shaw was useless, we stopped playing down the right when he came on and Saka hardly touched it second half. Kane should never have played. Won despite Southgate, he is the luckiest Manager in the Universe and will be a hero tomorrow with his visionary substitutions. It had to be Watkins of course. Great goal though. Bellingham fell away badly after 50 minutes. Foden played a blinder. Shaw should not play in the final at all. Spain 4-1 England.
So refreshing to see fans enjoy a win these days.....  ;D ;D

Germany 'played well' this tournament, where are they now? Would you rather pretty football and be out or winning football and be in the final??

As for Southgate, what can he do that doesn't constitute luck, outside of winning our group, not concede more than 1 goal in any game so far and get to 2 Euro finals in a row?

His subs could be more pro-active (like last night) but you cant argue that every sub at some point this tournament have turned the games in our favour

Enjoy the final, maybe Southgate might be 'lucky' again

By player 'agrees to terms' beforehand, it simply means the agents have spoken on their behalf and put the demands forward that the player would expect/ agree to. Im guessing thats not illegal.....

Mowatt and Kipre were bombed out with seemingly no way back, Carlos turned them around last season so maybe, just maybe he could do the same with KG.....
