West Bromwich Albion FC / Can we do this right tomorrow?
« on: October 07, 2022, 09:45:17 PM »
Bit of a deep thread and I know a lot of ‘morons’ don’t use this platform.

However, let’s not turn into a vile bunch tomorrow.

Yes, we can boo, moan, slate and ridicule but let’s not cross the mark. Let’s not get personal. Let’s not throw cabbages.

Let’s try and remember who we are in this; we’re better than the other tripes who stoop to low levels.

Win, lose or draw tomorrow, let’s try and remember the whole country will see it.

West Bromwich Albion FC / That Summer window….
« on: September 01, 2022, 11:39:29 PM »
I am aware I may be typing this a little hasty and we may yet announce a couple more…

But, that was woeful!

Twitter is awashed with comments suggesting we didn’t file the Onomah paperwork on time despite having 30mins to do so. If this is true, somebody needs sacking tomorrow.

Another year of empty promises.

Absolute shambles this club is.

After last season, we enter this one with 4 new players. 1 of whom is unproven, shouldn’t be expected to improve our squad.

We are worryingly thin in 3 crucial areas; full back, CM & CF. Actually even wingers we could argue we’re light.

Lai should hang his head in shame for what he putting us through. Appalling Albion.

What a brilliant piece of imagery. Just thought it deserved a little acknowledgement.

I wonder if you can purchase this from anywhere?

By any chance does any one have one they no longer wear? Would like to sell?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Toxic Hawthorns
« on: March 09, 2019, 07:52:26 PM »
Was going to post this even before I found out about DM.

What is wrong with our fan base? Completely split down the middle and arguing amongst each other constantly, booing the smallest mistakes and hounding our players.

Murphy for example; not very good I agree, but booing the lad even when he claps every corner of the ground?

I am not proud to be a Baggies right now, actually no I am. But I am not proud of some fellow Baggies.

Pull together for Christ sake.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Parking by Sportsman
« on: December 06, 2018, 07:44:00 PM »
Move if needed, not sure this is a “football” topic.

We normally go to the Island before the games, and park by the Cricketers pub/flats however tomorrow we fancy a change to the Sportsman.

Anywhere good to park by there? Don’t mind paying if I have to as not sure the side streets will allow it.

Any tips lads & lasses is appreciated.

Maybe a subtopic, where do most people on here before games these days?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Away Tickets - Loyalty Points
« on: August 29, 2018, 11:55:33 AM »
Just a quick question, may need moving elsewhere so apologies if so...

With regards to the Blues tickets, 4 season ticket holders wanting tickets but 2 can get them this week whilst the other 2 will have to wait until next week.

Anybody know if we can somehow request sitting together? Can the first 2 STH get all 4 tickets straight away on their account?

On a slightly separate note, anybody else feel the ticket office staff can come across very rude/abrupt - every time i call i seem to get a grumpy assistant on the phone.

Brilliant idea.

But only 912 players? Surely we’ve used more than that.

On another note, does anyone “in the know” have any idea when ours will be announced?

Have noted this week a number of clubs announcing their early bird deals so was curious as to when ours would be done.

What on earth has happened to our following?

Embarrassing lowly amount on show tonight.

Sad times. I for one need to get along to more and will as of now onwards, but incredibly poor tonight.

But is football dead? The Neymar deal has just about topped it off for me, the figures are ridiculous and where does it ever end?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Leaving Early
« on: January 21, 2017, 09:36:00 PM »
I know this has been brought up before to feel free to add to another thread if needed but I cannot fathom up why so many of us leave early each and every game.

Regardless of kick off time, weather, performance, scoreline, opposition etc etc we leave in thousands and today was embarrassing.

We are 8th in the league, comfortably holding on for another win today after a good performance (didn't we crave these so much last season?) yet half the seats were on show during injury time.

No other team seem to do it (will double check on MOTD tonight!) but can we look to stay until the end a little more?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Anyone else frustrated?
« on: July 08, 2016, 06:04:19 PM »
Once again we seem to be very, very slow on the transfer front. This season we are seeing Championship clubs easily outspend us, easily outbidding us.

I see players like Ibe to Bournemouth, Ritchie to Newcastle, Subotic to Boro, Palace bidding £32m for a player, Townsend to Palace etc. Yet we are again moving very slowly despite the urgent need for players.

I'm seriously worried about the season ahead and were only in July!

West Bromwich Albion FC / Home vs Away Systems
« on: December 22, 2015, 11:34:14 AM »
What would everybody propose TP do if they could advise him on what sides to pick.

Home vs Away doesn't work actually; home games to Man City are different to away game at Villa so i probably should say what systems would you use for games we could/should look at winning, and what system for games to try and snatch a point.

My choice would be:
Games to win

Myhill/Foster/Lindegaard

Dawson (Chester as cover)
GMac (With Olsson/Chester as cover)
Evans (With Olsson/Chester as cover)
Brunt (Evans as cover)

Yacob (with Gardner to cover)
Fletcher (with Morrison to cover)

Sess (With Mclean/Gnabry as cover)
Morrison (With Berahino as cover)
McManaman (With Mclean/Gnabry as cover)

Rondon (With Lambert/Berahino/Anichebe as cover)

Games to look for a point:

Myhill/Foster/Lindegaard

Dawson (Chester as cover)
GMac (With Olsson/Chester as cover)
Evans (With Olsson/Chester as cover)
Brunt (Evans as cover)

Yacob (with Gardner to cover)
Fletcher (with Gardner to cover)

Gardner (With Sess/Gnabry as cover)
Morrison (With Sess/Berahino as cover)
McLean (With McManaman/Gnabry as cover)

Rondon (With Lambert/Berahino/Anichebe as cover)

I would relish match days if we used these systems dependent on the opposition!

West Bromwich Albion FC / Our use of the loan signings
« on: December 16, 2015, 11:55:03 PM »
Over the past few seasons, I cant help but notice how "poor" or maybe a bit more to the point "uneducated" our loan signings have been.

Without this thread going over all our transfer work, which as we know seems to be very hit and miss, why is it our loans have followed the same path?

Are they panic signings? Are they all poor judgements? Have we been unlucky?

2015: Gnabry (1 out of 10 for success)
2014: Wisdom (4/10) Varela (3/10, could/should of been better)
2013: Amalfitano (6/10) Vydra (4/10) Popov (2/10) Thievy (5/10) Sinclair (1/10)
2012: Lukaku (10/10) Popov (5/10) El Ghannassy (1/10)
2011: Foster (9/10)

We seem to have a worrying trend of wide players who come to us and fail. Is this a "curse of the Albion" or simply very poor recruitment?

West Bromwich Albion FC / If 'he' plays next week, how do we react?
« on: September 03, 2015, 02:46:05 PM »
If Saido plays next week, or whenever he does come back, how will you react/how should we react?

I ask this because I know Albion fans were split on how we reacted with Odemwingie, i'm just very curios how we react when his name is eventually read out again.

I believe this squad is weaker. We may have stronger individuals, but the balance of the squad as a whole is weak. We have no plan B's in my opinion.

A very poor window overall in my upmost opinion.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Are we missing something? Reoccurring Problems
« on: September 01, 2015, 06:39:07 PM »
I'd like this to stay off "I hate Berahino" etc etc firstly;

Are us Albion fans not slightly concerned that again we have a player speaking ill of the club?

We had Odemwingie, George Thorne, Berahino and a couple others all speaking very negatively about us and what goes on behind the scenes

Does anyone think we potentially could have a bad name within the game if this continues?

After calming down from earlier, although I do still feel very angry about the whole thing, im looking for positives & a brighter summer.

I do disagree with Pulis' tactics at the moment, and his gameplan is overall very poor. His choices are poor, his decisions are incorrect IMO & i do believe he has a stubborn streak which he needs to try to drop.

However, watching MOTD & also doing my weekly scouting work, i do have some sympathy for him.

We as Albion fans can see, and have stated, this group of players as a collective & individually are not good enough.

Pulis' tactics may not be to everyone's taste, however i do fully believe the long ball/long pass can work & is used much more than people think. Palace '"lumped it" long 3 times today and scored! But what would you do with CURRENT squad?

4 managers have no taken control of this squad, which for about 80% of the players has stayed the same throughout that period.

Out of those 4 managers, i would trust Pulis to truly sort it out come the summer. Under Clarke we signed alot of unproven players, Mel would of risked signing several Spanish based/foreign lads whilst Irvine's signings (90%) of them were failures. (When i say theyre signings, i understand more than most some of these are the club signings rather than the actual manager in charge at the time. )

However i do fully believe Pulis will sign trusted, proven, well known players who will turn this squad around. I doubt our European recruitment network will be as busy as they were last year (out of the 10/11 signings from last summer, am i right in thinking only 2 were British based?).

Pulis will sign players who we can all relate to, who he/we know will be able to perform at this level. Im not saying he will have millions to spend, but he spend it wisely. Yes we may see players like Crouch, Taylor, Lambert etc come in but these players IMO will play their part in a squad easily capable of a top 12/14 finish.

Lets try to see this season out, i think we will just about be safe, and then we need to trust our manager & our UK scouting department and then look to a brighter future.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Albion Memories before '78
« on: February 14, 2015, 10:16:54 PM »
Firstly; im 24 & I apologise if i sound as if life only exsisted post 1990.

I just wondered what Football, and Albion games in particular were like before the "modern era".

Did fans go to pibs beforehand? Did we make a day of it? Etc etc etc.

I know the vast majority of users on here are 60 or younger, but id be very keen to get an insight into games in the 30s, 40s & 50s if at all possible.

Was it purely men that attended? Were the atmospheres good/better?
