Who would you like to win, and why?
« on: June 20, 2014, 11:49:28 PM »
With England's unsurprising exit from the World Cup, who would you like to see win it? From now I'm backing Holland, simply because they've never won it even with their great team in the 70's.

I would like someone who has never won it before (apart from the Netherlands). First choice would be Mexico but I would quite like Chile, Costa Rica or Colombia to win it, or even better, an Asian of African team.

Now England are out, the matches I'll particularly make an effort to watch will be the ones involving Holland and if I had to choose one to win it for football reasons, it would probably be them.

They are entertaining to watch, have some class players, and I quite like Van Gaal (speaks his mind, not bothered who he upsets and prone to the odd temper tantrum - good entertainment value, though a bit gutted he's gone to Man U who are a club I'm not overly keen on).

I also quite like the Netherlands to visit and the people seem a relatively friendly laid back bunch.

The other main interest for me is Brazil. We've had a family / close friends sweep for the World Cup and I drew Brazil and stand to make around £120 if Brazil come up trumps, so that would be a nice little bonus if they were to win.

While not a life changing amount, clearly if Brazil were to play Holland in the Final, the £120 would sway it for me to cheer on the Brazilians.

Holland I like the Dutch and the way that they are playing at present. But I have a feeling that a Messi inspired Argentina will win it.

Chile

By far the most entertaining side I've seen in this World Cup so far.

You can just sense it can't you. Twice Messi has won Argentina the game so far, they haven't really got going at all. They have incredible talent yet so far we've seen nothing of Di Maria, Aguero has been anonymous and Higuain a waste of a shirt, but you get the feeling they will grow into the tournament and if these players start playing anything like they can they are going to be mighty tough to stop.

I have been very impressed with Chile so far and I would love to see them win the World Cup. The football they played against Spain was a joy to watch, they look solid at the back too. Holland have also looked very good and I think they will be a real match for anyone.

I've always loved the Dutch. Great people, great place; significantly, almost always great football. I'm rooting for them too, would love to see them lift the trophy.

I like Mexico too and wouldn't mind seeing them get it.

Third but least likely choice is Belgium. Fantastic players in that squad. Doubt they'd get it.

Dear God please not Germany.

It would be fun to watch the bedlam in the Bay Area if Mexico won. There would be more celebrating than if the US had won.

Chile have been the most entertaining by far. Would love an African team to win it though.

Chile, as has been said, good side to watch and can see them causing Brazil lots of problems if they meet in the round of 16.

I would like one of the less fancied teams to win. Why? Coz it would really p#ss off FIFA and the sponsors. :D
