West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Trev the Shed
« on: March 26, 2024, 03:02:54 PM »
Yes, called so because he had a shed building business. A figure of fun to some people, but he loved the club without a doubt. A
I think the moniker 'Trev the shed' was quite unfair, he was a local business man and Albion through and through.
Not sure if he was at the helm when we appointed Ardiles but he would certainly have been on the board, and I'm pretty sure he resisted a decent offer for Bob Taylor from Coventry I think and didn't just snatch their hands off.
He was definitely a part of our rise from the doldrums.
A decent bloke.

Got to admit I felt he was a left field appointment at the time, but even so I wasn’t disappointed at all as we were in dire straits at the time and he was a bit different.
Point to prove type of guy.
Apart from the obvious on field success he brought with him, and the football wasn’t always as bland as some make out, I always liked listening to him talk.
I remember he said that when he walked into the club the playing staff were mainly light weight pros and fair weather players. He wasn’t wrong.
When we beat Sunderland away in the FA cup when they were a good PL side with Super Kev and Niall Quinn up front amongst others one of the press wanted to interview him about the cup giant killing, apparently Megson gave him short thrift and told words to the effect of,  there hasn’t been one, we are West Bromwich Albion.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Action For Albion/ Potential Takeover
« on: February 17, 2024, 11:19:12 AM »
Well someone said to me in My early days on here (has it really been Six Years) that this Club would make me cry and be proud. And I have to say listening to the football phone in last night, I was, I've told a lot people that people forget Albion were in the prem for 8 years because of our current yoyo club status, no one wants us there anymore. But no one knew of our financial troubles and the fact we could go out of bussiness. I sit here and watch MOTD and fall out of love with the game I am so passionate about apart from Luton. But as was mentioned Ally/A4A have conducted the protests really well, we weren't United postponing games or Reading abandoning games or United again turning up late and booing when we loose, because we realise there ay anything Carlos or the lads could do. Our job is to support them and try get what we all are overjoyed with at this current moment that didn't likely Promotion or at least the Play Offs.

I have to say the way we conducted the protests was class and A4A have brought attention to our issued not only to other Albion fans, but local fans, national media and some other clubs in a mess. I think it was a Villa Fan who first praised us and then a Walsall fan for what A4A had done and wished us well, other Albion fans had also been praising them to.

Whilst we didn't win last night I am not angry or upset or sad like usual. I have an enormous sense of Pride and feel proud at what Ally and A4A have done and we now have optimism where even if we don't get the play off's or we loose we can actually look forward to the next season under our new owners.

A quick question when Patel takes over next week will A4A have communication with him and find out his plans. I really want to know if he is going to keep Carlos a man who I and I am sure most of us feel deserves to be at the front of our new regime.

So overall I would just like to say thank you to Ally and all at A4A as I can now finally feel proud at this Club and our fans and can finally look forward to the future UTA COYB
well said mate

I Wouldn’t have paid a penny
The £25 to watch Spence v Crawford seems like a bargain compared to that rubbish on offer last night.

I think it was the cup winners cup rather than the fairs cup.
Either way typical Albion to fluff their lines even with a very good side

It’s not defeatist - it’s realistic. I’m not saying we shouldn’t aim to be the best that we can be but that we have to accept that being West Bromwich Albion is not a passport to anything. Bigger clubs than us have suffered greater falls. Luton rolled their sleeves up and got on with it. I believe we can halt our slide and get better but it will take time and be very difficult. As supporters (and I definitely include myself) we’ve got too carried away by a few wins and equally too despondent by a defeat or two. For me, we need a reset. Players still need to leave and new ones need to come in. We are by far the finished article. We have fans and may be even players that think we just have to turn up and sides will roll over. That attitude doesn’t get you anywhere. It leads to short term gut reactions and chopping and changing coaches. For once, let’s accept we are a way off where we want to be but let’s have a plan to change things and move in the right direction. However, we have to accept that West Bromwich Albion are currently not an automatic top ten side and will often struggle at teams like Blackburn who are in a similar position to us. They have won the Premier League - don’t their fans think they should be winning every match too?
absolutely spot on

Do we really want a rematch though when the first fight was so one sided?

On a wider note, it's a shame really that it's taken this long for a fight like this to happen. Crawford is 35 now and has long been the purists lb for lb king. Had he taken this sort of fight earlier, maybe his profile would have been as big as it really should be. Potentially going to go down as the most talented boxer in history not to be a house hold name.

As it happens one of the biggest weeks in modern boxing has seen the 2 best lb for lb boxers (Crawford and Naoya Inoue) win huge fights with barely any publicity.
It would be interesting to see if Spence was capable of changing his strategy or if Crawford has his number whatever the style. I do think Crawford could have stopped it earlier if he wanted.
Couldn't agree more about the fight should have been a couple of years ago and ref his profile the last couple of years have been dominated by Fury, AJ, Wilder and before that Mayweather Jr so a clutch of great fighters have had much less exposure to the casuals and general sports audience than their talent deserved.

Bud Crawfords TKO of Spence was great viewing, well worth the £20 fee.
Hopefully they do the rematch later this year, hard to see how Spence would turn the tables though based on last nights performance.

If they get Ramsey it could lead to a case of fur coat and no knickers leaving their squad exposed in other areas.
Like what you did there, never heard it called a squad before

Funny how opinions differ, I thought his stunt here was terrible, a Spanish Ron Atkinson but with even worse tactical nouse.
The 3-4 at seal park will haunt me forever.
Didn’t we also throw a 3 goal lead away against Tottenham?
3 wins in about 17 games or whatever.
I’m sure he’s a lovely guy.

Definitely not Villa or Wolves home or away, could be embarrassing.
A rubbish team at home and hopefully a run into the later rounds

Getting knocked out by non league opponents is not an acceptable option for me, and obviously not for the gaffer either, he didnt have the intention of throwiing the game to concentrate on the league.

Christ, this is a car crash in slow motion and there’s nothing anyone is going to do to stop it.
Next season top 6, maybe, but it’ll be in league one.

I can’t see how we’re gunna score from open play, there’s no method to anything we do going forward and defensively we look like a collection of nervous wrecks.

Has SJ had the most touches for us

Those penalties were so bad you could make a case that they were missed on purpose.
Got to admit I was wondering the same myself

Bilic should have been sacked...rightly so

Whether Allardyce should have been brought in is a debate but Bilic was rightly sacked

He wasn’t getting a tune out of these players either
Correct on all 3 counts

Chorley 2 Derby 0 FT
I seem to recall them beating Wolves 3-0 in the cup in the eighties.
