Sunderland missed the boat a few months ago when Pulis was available - I'm kind of glad we acted quickly in appointing him.

Sunderland are just a typical Premier League side though nowadays. They have spent millions and millions on very average players for average performances in return and a continuous scrap for safety.

Just watching football first - jesus christ in heaven, Sunderland are absolutely awful. Villa look very good to be fair, moving the ball with great energy. Absolutely bossing it.

Apparently the Sunderland fans booed the team back onto the pitch - sarcastic cheers for Seb Larsson when he returned three minutes after everybody else.

I can't even see who is out there for Sunderland to appoint if they sack Poyet. Michael Laudrup is the bookies favourite but he doesn't seem to be the type of person that the football club currently requires.

I know a certain Scottish manager who could do a good job at Sunderland.

I literally can't remember a season when Sunderland haven't been in one crisis or another in the Premier League.  In a way it must be worse than yo-yo'ing; at least if they get relegated they'll probably win more games in the Champ, but instead they're circling the drain every year, with fans hating the players and the manager(s) 95% of the time.

And yes, I'm well aware that we've flirted with that existence ourselves.  I hope we've turned the corner and will be moving away from it next year, because that kind of constant purgatory doesn't appeal.
Steve Bull is a merchant who specialises in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. He wears the headgear one would associate with this trade. He spent years in the first team of a Staffordshire-based club. And he is not a very nice man.

Got to look at the players to an extent. How many managers has it been since Bruce left? 3? 4? They weren't world beaters under Bruce but they weren't this bad! And what's happened to Connor Wickham?

Poyet is a tippy tappy manager, no surprise they are struggling. The era of tippy tappy is ending with the likes of Poyet and Martinez being hounded out. Leicester seem to get plaudits every week for playing well but losing, reminds me of Albion under Mowbray putting performances before results. Dyche is a good manager who deserves Manager of the Year iF he keeps Burnley up and QPR have their own version of Terry Connor in Chris Ramsey.

Just watching Match Of The Day Sunderland look about as bad as it's possible for a Premiership team to be. Rank awful.

Sunderland are everything I would hate us to become. They have appointed cheque book managers who have signed very average players in return for average performances. Both O'Neill and Bruce play very bland styles of football and it wasn't long before their feel good factors disintegrated.

Since we returned to the Premier League in 2010 they have spent nigh on around £117million in transfers. What have they received in return? Very little excitement, several managers booted and a constant hovering above the relegation zone. At least we've had a couple of enjoyable seasons where our football was entertaining.

Sunderland made a massive error in appointing Paulo Di Canio and whilst he was a fruitcake, everything he has said about that football club has proved to be spot on. Too many who are on inflated wages and just happy to be living on easy streak.

My worry in appointing Pulis is that we will become similar to Sunderland. A club that spends an awful lot of transfers but very little return in terms of entertainment, style and success. At least we should be guaranteed Premier League safety without too much trouble.

Also noticed at Sunderland that Lee Congerton plays a key role in their recruitment.

He was widely talked about as replacing Dan Ashworth when he left for the FA so we may have dodged a bullet there!

I still think Sherwood all prove to be a decent manager. He may just be an impact manager, Im not sure, but I'd have been happy to see him and his positive style of football at Albion.

Don't think you really need to worry on that score!

JP never really overspends and would demand a return on any substantial outlay.

Pulis's latest signings have certainly represented value for money in my view - Hennessey, Dann, Ledley, Ince and Puncheon at Palace - Fletcher and McManaman at Albion.

He might have squandered a bit of cash at Stoke but they have never really been in danger of getting relegated during his time there!

Can not argue much with the Dann and Ledley signings. Hennessey has made 6 (?) appearances since his £3M move, Puncheon was on loan prior to Pulis arrival and wasn't exactly his signing, Ince made 5 starts on loan and wasn't purchased at the end of his loan.
Hit and miss?

Wasn't that down to the player and his dad touting him around Europe and trying to secure a contract with the best of the best before he currently ended up on loan at Derby ?

Is he value for money? Didn't play for Palace and not playing for Hull now. Definitely in the miss category for me.

Don't get me wrong I agree with you, just saying why he didn't sign for Palace. I think they wanted him but he had his eyes on a money spinning move to one of the top clubs in Europe.

That worked out well for him. Hull and Derby, two teams you immediately think of when listing Europe's top teams. ;D ;D

Thought Hennessey was brought in for approximately £1.5 million (same as Myhill) both worth the cash as back up keepers.

Puncheon was on a season long loan but Pulis actually signed him in January after taking charge at Palace in November.

Ince is young, still has potential for great success and is currently flourishing under Steve McLaren at Derby, so I would suggest he was worth bringing in at Palace at that time.
