Where did it go wrong?

We have signed a championship striker who can't get in the first team regular but happily taking up a chunk of wages.
We have Rondon who rarely scores any goals.
We have Rodriguez who's a bit hit and miss too.

Our biggest problem is, we can't find the back of the net.

When pulis was here, it was because we wasn't creating chances and rondon was too isolated..... Now Pardew is he, we are creating more than enough chances to score as much as the opposition but it's all Pardews fault because a team that's been in the premier league for a good run of years don't seen to have a striker that can score regular in this league.

Teams come into this league and sign players to improve their squad, we have been signing has beens, free transfers that no one else wants and championship quality players..... and people wonder why we are heading towards the championship?

Sorry to break peoples hearts but Pardew doesn't have a magic wand and neither does anyone that could replace him... we have stood still has a club (in terms of players) for way to long now its starting to show.

Looks as though this season has been a season too far for him.

He played very well vs Brighton but they were so poor he was granted so much time on the ball it was made easier, he has a few decent games, but overall the game bypasses him.

Thats nothing to do with the Barca trip, its on form only, Everton phased him out gradually last year and he only started just over half of their games in the league.

At the time he was probably a risk worth taking, we had lost Fletcher and there is no doubting Barry was a quality player, even with the non football under Pulis could see why Pardew gave him games when we have started to play football but he is a centre midfielder, possibly the most important position on the pitch and now the game just bypasses him.

As he isnt offering us anything at the moment now is the time to drop him, try others (ie - Field) with a view to the future because will be shocked if Barry is given another deal with us next season.

Was a good player, was a top pro, this season both things have been questioned.

Same with Fletcher.

We seem to like to keep hold of players based on their past experience where other teams are getting players based on their current qualities... hence why we are bottom of the league.

Agree. It’s been said many times but why hire a manager who had won 6 from 36 and with a dodgy reputation? At least it wasn’t a 2 1/2 contract :)

I take it you didn't realise we had clowns running the circus?!

Don't even care what happens tbh, if he stays or goes.... I'm bored of this sh*te.

Shocking team selection today, hopefully he just had one eye on the next league game.

Barry shouldn't be anywhere near a premier league team, he's f*cking dreadful.

No matter how we play or what we try and do.... everything has just gone against us this season.

Won't call for Pardews head as I like to try and be a bit more realistic, but he certainly hasn't done himself any favours with the team he picked today... especially if you take into account the recent incident in spain.

When Pulis took over from Irvine he was the current manager of the year and just saved Palace. I didn’t want Pulis either but felt we needed him at the time. Pardews record when he got the job (after his Palace tenure) was awful. My problem was with Williams and Hammond at the time. it’s not Pardews fault he got the job but since he was given it you would hope he would would have won more games, otherwise why appoint him. Was it to to keep us up or be more “entertaining” to watch?Lol

No one is guaranteed to keep any team up, not even pulis.

So again why did we hire him? If it’s not for a short term fix but a long term project the hiring is even more baffling. In theory Pardew has always gone in and turned teams around quickly and given them a boost. I don’t know many people questioning Pardew who are defending Pulis. I wanted Pulis out but the appointment of Pardew was staggering to me. I want him to prove me wrong but to tell people that they need to blindly overlook Pardews record seem strange. Those that hated Pulis seem to be giving Pardew and easy ride just because he’s not Pulis.

Or maybe it's because pulis had so long, so many transfer windows and so much money yet his excuses from his first week with us were exactly the same as his excuses the last week before he left us..... why doesn't Pardew deserve the same time and transfer windows as pulis?

For the record, I couldn't stand pulis before he came here but I kept going and giving him a chance.... I also didn't want Pardew here, but I shall keep going and give him a chance like we all gave to pulis who never really changed much except sign a load of players who can't seem to fight their way out of a paper bag never mind a relegation scrap.

So because I think AP is a poor manager I have to keep my opinion to myself until we are relegated. Is that what you are saying?
By the way, I will always support the club as a whole, even if/when we are relegated, so please don't suggest otherwise. Because you have a different opinion to me, doesn't make you a better fan.

When did I say such thing? Learn to read before jumping on your high horse.

Personally, I feel like every fan Needs to get behind the team as a whole including manager until atleast the end of the season for any hope we can stay up.... if your saying you do that, you post is pointless isn't it?

Do you not agree? If you do agree... what is the point your trying to make in your post?

Who said anything about being a better fan? We're not 14 year old school girls trying to claim who's better etc.

I tried to explain the bigger picture a few posts back - his failure to turn things around at Palace and Newcastle when they went on a poor run - but you chose to ignore this.
However, if you insist on concentrating on his time at WBA ONLY, ok I will. One win in 14 league matches so far. How long do you want me to give him?

Til the end of the season, the he would have been on the same bad run as the last God we had in charge.

Like it or not, he's here.... It's about time the fans got behind what he have and supported the club as a whole, atleast til it's mathematically impossible for us to stay up.

So you play in a manner that gets results with the players available. It started off as a vanity project for him and god help him if results don't turn around as the injuries everyone is hanging their hat on clear up.

So why didn't pulis play in a manner that gets results?

Once again, criticising Pardew for something YOU defended pulis over..... pot kettle black.

That isn't true. I for one, and there are plenty of other examples on here of others, was in favour of sacking Pulis and I certainly wouldn't defend him to the ends of the earth. I appreciate that he managed to stabilise the club in the Premier League, and  build on what he had inherited, but I think his time was done. All managers have a shelf life and his was reached. To try to suggest that everyone who believes that Pardew was a terrible appointment was by default a Pulis lover is just plain wrong. To some people, they were so blinded by their dislike of Pulis, that they would have been happy with my aunt Mabel as our new manager. The only box that Pardew ticked was his liking for playing more attacking football (which, by the way, would have been true for about 95% of all possible appointments), In every other respect, it was clear to see that he would be an awful appointment, and that's not just with the benefit of hindsight - there were quite a few of us who said it before and immediately after he was given the job.

Your talking like you know we are 100% relegated, to judge someone's time in charge after a short time is ridiculous.

Is he an awful appointment if he manages to get us to Wembley in the cup or keep us up this season?

None of your post matters after the first line which I will answer. We're bottom of the Premier League 4 points adrift of safety running at 0.76 points per game. When he came in we weren't.

He was also gifted a fairly easy run in to the start of this season, which he failed to take advantage of..... you defended him like many others on here but slate Pardew for getting the same results against the same/similar quality teams.

I pay to watch football each week, not count how many points per game there is. It's all a matter of opinion.

Similar could be said of people claiming improvement when we're actually far worse off?

It was clearly enough for a lot of people that he isn't Pulis. Hopefully we don't ride that wave into the Championship and he starts to get things right.

How are we possibly far worse off?

Pulis: turned fans, poor football, poor results and apparently lost the players

Pardew: more positive attitude from fans home and away games (from what I've witnessed), bearable football, poor results but the players seem like they want to try and play.

The problem is, fans that would defend pulis to the end of the earth will never accept pardew, it's as simple as that.

Pity we didn't have a cup final next weekend. Nearly everyone would then declare themselves fit to play. What's the matter with modern day footballers; they cry off with the slightest knock? It wasn't like this in years gone by. You'd need a broken leg to stop you playing.

Not really the players choosing not to play though is it, it's down to the medical team etc.

been a failure at club so far one win in twelve should get any coach the sack. looks like he struggling to pick the best team and formation regardless of injuries?

The last guy we had in charge only won 1 in 12 games leading to the end of last season and they still gave him another 11 or 12 games the next season.

By that theory, Pardew is safe until atleast the end of the season.  ::)

Survival obviously.  Why risk the entire future of the club for a bit of silverware?  Utterly mental.

Why not take winning silverware seriously to just be another number to make up the greed league?

They say it's the hope that kills you.

I resisted posting after the game yesterday as I was so disappointed with the result. However after looking At the table and the remaining fixtures I really don't think I have any choice but to remain optimistic that we will survive. Yes we've been terrible but i can't help thinking we can get out of this. Anyone else???

Just as possible as it is for us to go down.

One thing we have going for us is the clubs around us still have to play each other and us.... hopefully the players wake up sooner rather than later and start holding onto winning positions and turning draws into wins.

......

I wont hold my breathe though.

Phillips is twice the player Leko is, he's not ready for the prem yet, he needs game time out on loan.

But he would get loaned to a championship or league one team.... which is not getting him experience at premiership level.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Matty Phillips
« on: February 04, 2018, 08:19:31 PM »
I completely disagree. I think people have given him a fairly easy ride though his career with us to date, unlike Rondon who has had pelters week in week out and Livermore who has received much criticism. Phillips has been nigh on useless for us other than a those two months where everything clicked for us last season. His performances this season have been lamentable and he is now rightly receiving criticism. His challenge on the halfway line yesterday was utterly embarrassing and he should have been hauled off there and then as he clearly doesn't have the stomach for the fight that we are in.

Yet we are crying out for him when he is injured because we have no winger to replace him.  (Burke can only play on one side at a time).

id say he`s useless in a team that has won 3 games out of possible 26, and id give Burke a chance which phillips has had

I agree Burke needs a chance, but if your theory was to go by we would need another 10 players to replace the rest that have been in a team that's only won 3 out of 26 games.

Phillips is just the scapegoat atm, one good run into the box or assist and everyone's attitude changes..... like always.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Matty Phillips

Phillips has been useless for a while and needs to be droped, has done nothing of note since his purple patch of last season, id give Burke a chance because to be honest he doesnt deserve a starting berth.

Speaks volumes when one of our better players are classed as useless.

Then who would you replace Burke with after he hasn't made miracles happen after being given a good run?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Matty Phillips

give burke a go phillips has been crap of late and to pull out of that 50-50 shows to me bloke aint up for scrap.

So that means the other 6 guys who didn't close lemina down for his goal ain't up for the game as they just stood there.

Like Alex1 has said, some of the stuff on this thread is exaggerated and people are just crying out for someone to blame for a very embarrassing team performance.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Would Pulis have kept us up?
« on: February 04, 2018, 12:08:42 PM »
I don't see how you can say he didn't know what he was doing when he got a poorer squad safe in March. I mean, I know people love to have a go at the guy and in a lot of ways he deserves criticism, but to say he didn't know what he's doing is just absurd.  As for your comments about the transfers, well, I disagree.  I think this squad is decent enough when the players are fit.

I don't think our January window was anywhere near good enough.  Sturridge is a great signing and looked very good yesterday if we can get him on the ball.  Gabr, we haven't even seen him kick the ball yet so the jury is still out (and if you consider that strengthening then I'm sure you'll be first to credit Pulis for bringing in Hegazi) but... where was the creative midfielders that we're desperately crying out for?  If I was being as criticial about signings are some on here are then I *could* say we've signed an unknown Egyptian when we already have Evans\Hegazi\GMac\Dawson and we've signed a player who is rarely fit.  I find it best to be try and be fair minded though.

The issue isn't getting rid of Pulis though, it was the right time to go and he deserves a lot of criticism for the first 12 games and not picking up enough points... It's the fact that Pardew has done no better yet we're still supposed to think he's the Messiah and beyond criticism just because he isn't Pulis.

But the season don't end in march.

Like many on here, I didn't want Pardew.... but if pulis was given the amount of time he was given, why can't Pardew be given the same chance?

They are both similar results wise with the only differences being Pardew is more positive and plays better football.... they are both clearly sh*te at getting teams to pick up results but it's very small minded of fans on here especially to praise pulis so much after getting into the position he left us but then slate Pardew after a small amount of games.

In regards to transfers, I personally think the Gabr signing was just made incase any last minute offers came in for evans, although untested.... we would have then still had the same amount of defenders to work with, with the resources we have as a club especially when defence isn't biggest priority..... pulis did get us some quality additions... but he also packed us out with a few championship at best players which doesn't help the fact that we are unbalanced and have limited quality on the bench.

Whilst I don't think Pardew was the best option to replace pulis, pulis was heading in one direction only..... You don't get the sack for doing well.... he had enough time and enough transfer windows to sort us out but like it or not... he didn't succeed.... otherwise he would still be here now.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Would Pulis have kept us up?

But the poor finish to last season has no real bearing on our finishing position this season.  So if you want to throw in last season as a criticism you've also got to give him credit for getting us safe by March with a much weaker squad than we have now.

Pardew has had long enough with the players and we've thrown points away to our rivals like toffees.  1 Premier League win and that's it from Pardew - that isn't survival form.

No I dont.

Pulis went on a poor run last season, his last 12 games he picked up 5 points from a possible 36... whilst that doesn't have any effect on this season's position, it was very clear pulis didn't have a clue what he was doing... he was then given ANOTHER transfer window to get 'his team' and people on here still wanted to give him more time... fair enough, but that poor style and results continued and he then picked up 10 points from a possible 36 across the 12 games he was in charge for this season.... including teams like Huddersfield, Southampton, Brighton and stoke... similar to the team's that Pardew is getting slated for not winning against.

Pardew has now came in, he's trying to manage another person's team, he hasn't wasted any money here he has only improved our squad with Gabr and Sturridge coming in instead of championship players pulis always wants and unfortunately for him.... it's a massive task with limited time to get the team out of that negative defensive mindset and into his positive thinking which SHOULD result in us picking up points.

For anyone that thinks pulis would have done any better, go and ask the Boro fans why they booed him off yesterday.

No. Players had stopped playing for him. We wouldn't even have 20 points

But people on here like to ignore his finish to last season and the 95% of this season he took part in with getting us poor results.
